Swaney is excellent and their best player. Waterloo owns his USHL rights and he played a few games down there after season last year, I would bet strongly he is playing there next year. Knoepke and Ess the 2 soph D are very good players and are already getting a lot of attention themselves. Olsen is the best freshman in MN IMO. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see him committing somewhere soon with how early schools get younger kids to commit these days.WestMetro wrote:Im not surprised. Been waiting for them to break out a little more.
Theyve got a top 10 metro junior, couple top 10 sophomores, probably the top freshman Jack Olsen, and from what Ive heard a reasonably solid base behind that. Havent been down to Highway 70 to Hasse this year, but I am interested in how this team develops over the next two years, although Swaney will probably be gone after this year I imagine. No doubt SATS has more insight and opinions on this program.
Seems like LS has some promising young talent. Do you foresee a coaching change at South in the coming years?Sats81 wrote:Swaney is excellent and their best player. I have only seen Swail play a few times, but he has always looked solid in between the pipes.thespellchecker wrote:Big performance by the goalie for South, saved 39 out of 40. Now 3-0 on year, only 1 goal allowed. Wish the Wild could get a hot tender.
Yes, I have seen them both play. IMO Olsen is the better player and has the higher trajectory too. His dad was a standout HS player for Burnsville in mid 80's, then played at CC and was an NHL draft pick. Mark is also about 6'5", so I would only imagine Jack will end up being a very big boy too.WestMetro wrote:SATS, have your watched freshmen Sam Walker and Clayton Phillips for Edina Varsity this year, and if so does Olsen standout a lot more ?? Both Hornets were nationally rated Bantams like Olsen was , and now are getting a fair amount of varisity playing time. I think Phillips is in top 2 D pairs, and Walker playing 3rd or 4th line shifts. Walker got a shorty against Pioneers last Saturday, I think it might have been Malmquist in the box at the time.
I havnet seen Olsen playing varsity, so I cant make a comparison in my mind, although I probably saw him in Bantam Elite season last summer at BIG. Obviously he is generating a lot more points when looking at the Hub
No. Problem with that young talent is Ann Arbor and the USHL will be pressuring soon (if not, already) and LS lacks the leadership/D1 coaching connections that LN has so don't be surprised if a lot of these young studs for LS bolt early.danglingnsnipen15 wrote:Seems like LS has some promising young talent. Hope not. It's comical to watch the coaching staff at work on the bench. Or not at work!danglingnsnipen15 wrote:Seems like LS has some promising young talent. It appears that many would like to see a coaching change at LS, but nobody seems to think it will happen. Why is this?Defensive Zone wrote:Hope so.danglingnsnipen15 wrote:Seems like LS has some promising young talent. Isn't Walker like a 16 y/o freshman? hardly fair to count him.WestMetro wrote:SATS, have your watched freshmen Sam Walker and Clayton Phillips for Edina Varsity this year, and if so does Olsen standout a lot more ?? I think he's a 15 year old freshman - birthday makes him too old for Bantams. Undersized and a bit over-matched most nights. Gets virtually no 5 on 5 shifts as a 4th liner. Most of his minutes come on the PK. If family history is any indication, he may not stay long.DrGaf wrote:Isn't Walker like a 16 y/o freshman? hardly fair to count him.WestMetro wrote:SATS, have your watched freshmen Sam Walker and Clayton Phillips for Edina Varsity this year, and if so does Olsen standout a lot more ?? ***edit: I withhold judgement ... he did play 99's in the summer correct?
Yes, but Phillips could have played another year of Bantams, as he is a later 99 than Walker.WestMetro wrote:I think both freshman, Walker and Phillips, are 99s
