Re: TWINS

Yet we’re swept.

Pitching matters, having no starter who can be counted on to give a quality start hurts.

Amazingly, not, the two teams in the a World Series have pitchers who can pitch 5 innings.

Re: University of St Thomas

St Thomas could use it temporarily while building a new facility for football. Hockey, meh, it wouldn’t take much to be average in D1 hockey attendance. The money is in being in a conference that has an automatic qualifier for the basketball tournament. There is enough quality basketball players in ...

Re: University of St Thomas

Penn St. had a donor who paid for the program. Notre Dame is national, not regional. Mankato is in a state hockey crazy, same reason Florida, Texas, Georgia, etc. can support so many D1 football teams. Omaha supported a USHL team far and away better than anyone else in that league for years at Aksar...

Re: Bantams vs. High School

1/10th the overall cost in high school.
No 9:00 pm games on a Wednesday night two hours away from home.
The school gets you to and from away games.

Of course this all depends on your individual school district but for me high school was a far and away better alternative to youth hockey.

Re: University of St Thomas

Side Note/Question: Any updates on U of Illinois going D1? I have a relative who has been pushing this for years if not decades. His kids played for the Chicago Mission AAA. His view is Title IX is preventing it, along with hockey isn’t very popular outside Chicago...... the hockey joke is you coul...

Re: Transfer Rules not just an MN issue

Many years ago I was an interim AD, I ended up being on what was at the time called a listening post. We went to schools in our area and heard the public talk about transfers, eligibility, etc. our recommendations plus other states experience led to the current MSHSL transfer rule. The rule Minnesot...

Re: TWINS

For winning we get the Yankees! As Nate Silver points out, the Twins have lost the last 13 post season games against the Yankees, which is basically the same (gulp) as the Washington Generals record against the Harlem Globetrotters. There is always the scene from Dumb and Dumber.....so you’re tellin...

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

You can add Bennett Zmolek - Rochester Century to the list. He made the 23 man roster for Cedar Rapids USHL. If anyone wants to comb through them to see if there is any other breaking news, feel free! Otherwise I will be updating the rest of the USHL Rosters on EP Tonight and I will circle back. (I...

Re: Key player injuries 2019-20

My arthritis is worsening so expect more grammatical errors..... Or were you taking about high school kids and not people who post on here? I would consider Karl, Lee, Elliot, Otown, kniven, etc key players. Lee could be nearing retirement. His heart just isn't in the game these days, it seems. As ...

Re: Key player injuries 2019-20

Talking about yourself in the third person is clearly sign of injury. The state may even have laws against participation due to a possible concussion without clearance by a health care professional. Lee is not concerned. Lee easily ducks everything his wife throws at him. Lee Experience t...

Re: High School football

Thanks..... Two defending state champs just got beat handily; Spring Grove and Lourdes. Watch out for Winona in 4A, Chatfield to upset Caledonia in 2A. Owatonna should continue their domination in 5A. It has been a while since section 1 hasn’t won a nine man title and I think Southland keeps that st...

Re: High School football

Since I still can’t post on Minnesota scores....... Numbers are an issue in most schools, specializing is an issue but IMHO it is less than fees and who plays. Interestingly I had a long discussion with an AD who talked about fewer kids playing football but had the the highest number of kids out for...

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

There are lots of research showing how a student leaving high school a semester early to participate in spring practice shows more harm than good. Phillip Nelson may be the poster child of this in Minnesota high school football. When you get to hockey most of the “research” comes from USA hockey wh...

Re: Moving to Minnesota for HS Hockey

If you are moving to any school district for your kid to play hockey you are an idiot. Your kid has far better chance to make a living and career based on his education than his hockey talents and those numbers are not even close. This topic shows up yearly and is as dumb every time.....if you have ...

Re: YHH Summer HS Hockey Podcast 2019

There has always been a debate on this forum since its inception 20+ years ago about when it is fair game to go after a kid, and for 20+ years there has been no real answer; if you are Tim Poehling and your goal on here is to promote your kids well then there is an inherent different standard than a...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

Owatonna was the largest school in the Big Nine for a number of years after Rochester Century opened, they are now behind all three Rochester schools and will fall behind Northfield fairly soon.....to be fair some of that has to do with the way the MSHSL counts enrollment. Owatonna is a football sch...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

4 of the bottom 11 AA teams in terms of enrollment and 5 of the bottom 13 reside in 1AA. Only Northfield of those 5 is growing in terms of MSHSL enrollment. Rochester will be lucky to field 3 public school varsity teams in 10 years. Much like Minneapolis, St. Paul, and St. Cloud the middle class is ...

Pavelich has been an odd duck for decades, though someone I envied for his ability to essentially disappear on his terms. CTE may be the cause but so can a lot of other things like mental illness.

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

Just my opinion..... Roseau continuing to opt opt keeps 8AA alive as we know it. There is no other reason for it to exist as a NW section. Moorhead is not a reason to keep a singular section alive. You could reasonably make an argument for a section of 218 teams, just as they did for 507 teams.
