Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

The Big Ten is not playing any non conference football games. I would imagine most other power 5 conferences will do the same. What this means for schools like Norte Dame and BYU is up in the air. At the high school level New Mexico canceled their football season yesterday. Tennessee postponed a vot...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

The Rochester Mayor and city council just put the most restrictive mask order in the nation. It makes masks mandatory in all public buildings, bars, restaurants, retail stores, gyms, sports facilities, recreation and fitness centers, and outside when 6 feet of distance can not be maintained. This or...

Re: Darkhorse teams for 2020-2021

I am thinking it is Minneapolis North since we will appoint a winner. Hill Murray should also vacate all Championships. James Hill was clearly a racist.... “give me enough Swedes, snuff, and whiskey and I’ll build a railroad through hell”. I am also fairly certain Catholics killed Muslims during the...

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021

It is likely some junior teams in certain states will play. Iowa, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are allowing more than Minnesota and Illinois. Then you have local mask rules...exemptions are garbage. Minneapolis has a mask rule but the Twins are given an exemption. Not the townball teams playing the s...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

Iowa is playing high school baseball and softball now as it their season. If a team has a player that tests positive then that team is shut down for two weeks. Western Dubuque has one of the top catching prospects in the country and just had to shut down. The MIAC and NSIC will have to make decision...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

So Mayo tests every employee...... it does not give you a state or national rate of infection. Period, end of story. What it does is give us, a first in the nation, status on the spread. A basic rate of asymptotic vs symptomatic people. This is huge. No one has done this yet.....basic as it seems.

You are correct. Assuming every person in Olmsted County was tested exactly once the positive rate on Olmsted County would be under 1%. Hennepin County is far different, so is Nobles County (Worthington). Ramsey County, Stearns County, and some others would fall into that category as well. You make ...

The MDH isn’t allowing indoor competitions until at least July 29th. The MSHSL is following that guidance/edict. I doubt any school will go Townball on the MSHSL.

Hockey is a winter sport......

The Texas version of the MSHSL the University Interscholastic League (UIL) has proposed switching the fall and spring seasons.....track, baseball, softball, and tennis would occur in the fall while football and volleyball would be spring sports.

Education Minnesota will decide, state wide, if there is school or not. Minnesota Hockey is under no...

Every day this Oriole sits on the power line in my backyard and sings. 5:30 am and 9:00 pm. I am convinced this is Neut. I drink my coffee every morning listening to him, I water my peppers every evening listening to him..... Neut, I miss you buddy!

Jr Gold is tough.....imagine no school in Rochester and 4 high schools combined to field 1 Jr Gold team....the alternative is school is in session and there is no Jr Gold team. This decision will probably come down in late October or early November. After all the required training. Minnesota Hockey ...

The Minnesota Medical Association announced today that they are advocating state leaders to make wearing of masks mandatory in all public indoor buildings. Jan Malcolm advocated for this today during the MDH briefing along with masks outdoors as well. The MMA is hardly apolitical so take that for wh...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

I am in my mid 50’s now.....I went to college, then joined the Army, I went into teaching after that. When I first got out of the Army I was a teacher and a football coach in small town Iowa. After a couple of years my school, like many at the time, had budget cuts and my position was cut. However, ...

As of today,June 19, the Minnesota Department of Health is at odds with the MSHSL. Other states are going ahead with plans that are different from their state high school leagues and the NFHS. Be prepared!

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

24 hours later the MDH does a 180 and allows youth sports, including hockey to start in the next 5-14 days. While I am glad, the rapid about face just shows how bad the leadership has been. Minnesota Amateur Baseball called the states bluff. Nearly 100 places were allowing baseball and the number wa...

The MSHSL pretty much said the same thing today for football. The article in the Star Tribune has a picture of Minneapolis North working out...I hope that is a picture from years ago because if it is not 🤦‍♂️, I don’t think you can pack anymore kids into that small an area.

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

Context does not always fit the narrative that is being told. When we stopped “elective” surgeries we also stopped, for the most part, Cardiac and Thoracic surgery. Those surgeries, by their very nature, often require post operative ICU stays, 1-7 days typically. Resuming these surgeries increased t...

Many hospitals, including mine, took normal patient care floors and turned them into ICU’s expecting an in flux of Covid-19 patients. Oversimplified math....we had 25 ICU beds, we took general patient care floors and turned them into ICU beds. Giving us 250 ICU beds. We never saw an increase in ICU ...

Duh!
Of course Mahtomedi plays a tough schedule, they play in the Tradition Rich Metro East (TRME to us old timers). Best Conference in the state hands down....the SEC of high school hockey...they need a break in the non conference schedule.
