Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board

In Rochester for youth football if you are on the free/reduced lunch program we “rent” helmets and shoulder pads for a nominal fee that is returned in full with the return of the equipment. We also lower the sign up costs to something like $10 from $120. We hope the long term benefits outweigh the i...

Re: The Argy Bargy 3A Thread 2019-2020

Lourdes is really down this year but they still have name recognition. New Ulm going there and winning 7-0 probably looks a lot better than it really is. That said, I think anytime you can go and beat a team with the pedigree of a Lourdes it has to help your program and put a bounce in your step. L...

Re: AA Rankings for 1/19/20

I think at this point they are all marginal

Heck, if Irondale would make it we have our crowd favorite.
Maybe with all these marginal teams WBL finally wins a quarter final
Or
Moorhead wins a championship

The story lines could be great.

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament

I personally think MSHSL needs Boys hockey more then boys Hockey needs the MSHSL. would it be better for everyone to opt out and just be under Minnesota hockey? You can still do the state tournament the same. You could have sectionals or adopt region play like youth hockey. You could then play 40-5...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels

To flip this...... Rochester, a city of over 110,000, fields 6 bantam teams and won’t play AA in youth. Youth hockey hub has the bantam A team rated #1 in the state, how does Minnesota Hockey allow this. This is sandbagging on a scale pretty much unheard of. These kids get split into the 4 high scho...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels

My point was that, in general, AA teams are rated higher than A teams. If they dropped Orono and Delano and picked up STMA and St. Cloud they would have a tougher schedule and thus a higher ranking.

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels

To be fair, if EGF was in AA it is very likely their schedule would include more AA teams and less of the likes of Orono and Delano. The can’t control their conference schedule of course but in all likelihood they would have played a tougher non conference schedule, thereby improving their overall s...

Re: A Rankings for 1/19/20

Faribault 4
East 2

Faribault might very well be the top seed in 1AA and can’t field a JV team.

East has some talent but are inconsistent as anything.

New Ulm is playing pretty well, Hutch just beat Mound Westonka.....there are a couple of nominees to round out next week’s rankings.

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels

EGF is in a metro area in my opinion. With population base of over 60,000 it is larger than the outstate AA area of Owatonna and Northfield. I won’t count Hastings and New Prague but could. I think the 7 non metro of the 40 include Warroad (4), Greenway (1), Alexandria (1), and Red Wing (1). MAML op...

I’d like to see one of the Mankato schools play New Ulm. There is kind of a natural rivalry with the two towns being close enough together. No section seeding implications makes the game easier for all involved as well. I wouldn't call it a rivalry. New Ulm hasn't played either Mankato schools at t...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament

The A champ goes through less a gauntlet than most AA teams just to get to state, let alone win it. Why give them a bye into a game like that? If you are old like me you can remember when the Minneapolis Star sponsoring a football game between the mythical public and private school champions. Cretin...

Hill Murray 6 Hastings 2 In the second Hill had a 3-0 lead, Hastings cut it to 3-1 and had a power play. The Raiders missed an open net and took a stupid 5 minute penalty out of frustration, they scored during the 4 on 4 to make it 3-2 but Hill scored on the power play with under a second left in th...

Marwin Gonzales played for the Astros, known cheaters. Was it launch angle or stealing signs that led to “Bomba squad”? I am leaning stealing signs. I remember a story of Nolan Ryan hearing a batter figured out a tell he had a tell by moving to the outside of rubber when he threw a curve ball. So he...

Hill Murray at Hastings

SCC at EGF

New Ulm at Hutchinson (I think this will be postponed)

Honorable mention to
Eagan at Burnsville
St Michael at Eden Prairie
Orono at Mahtomedi

Re: Hockey Day weather forecast

it seems crazy the MSHSL preaches safety yet allows what happened last year to happen. We have strict guidelines regarding heat but none involving cold?

Of course anyone who played at Indus would have little sympathy....

Re: AA Rankings for 1/5/20

My 1AA take McCarvillle has about a .800 save percentage in his last 3 games.....that is against such stalwart competition as Jefferson, Hopkins, and Champlin Park. That won’t get it done come sections.....he was awful against South in sections last year and this may be more of a trend than a single...

Re: 2010s All-Decade Team and Awards

There is no zero year, apparently those in charge didn’t understand fractions.

Really, there is nothing between 1BC (before Christ) and 1AD (Anno Domini - year of our Lord). By our Calendar Jesus was born in year 1AD.

Again, fractions must have escaped them.

Re: 2010s All-Decade Team and Awards

In 2016 Farmington had beaten North twice during the regular season, they may have shut them out twice as well. This was a bad match up for North and there weren’t a whole of people who didn’t see Farmington winning that game. I would put Luverne in as a team of the decade, they never won a title, o...

Farmington 4
Century 2

Farmington scores 4 in the 3rd period to get the win, the Tigers seemed like they had better legs than Century.....

Century should win 20 games but struggle to get a top 2 seed in a section that may run 6 deep.

Good research 👍. Let’s just say many of forum members were not yet alive ! Including this one! The less said about that game, the better. Lakeville South has now handed East both its worst loss of the regular season (score-wise) of the Randolph era and the worst playoff loss (upset-wise) of the Ran...
