As usual, you are correct. For whatever reason I had it in my head North was moved when Northfield became AA. They were moved in basketball, now that the Hurt boys have graduated #-o

Re: USHL Draft on May 6th

While probably a rare event I do know of a goalie who in 2018 told USHL teams he wasn’t interested because he was going to college full time. I suspect there are kids who see engineering, medicine, or other things as their future and not hockey.

Re: 2019-2020 Coaching Changes List

What is total number of AD’s the hiring of Eigner has brought down? 3 I think. 2 at North and now one at STA. Hockey people wield a lot of power I guess. At least in the STA case a couple of dads didn’t have resort to trashing an upstanding teacher and coach in school board meetings to get their des...

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

Rochester, pretty unfairly, puts more F/R in the John Marshall area when one of the poorest areas of town is much closer to Century than John Marshall, while they bus kids from a much more affluent part of town further to Century when John Marshall is much closer. Local politics in action, i.e. real...

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

What hit me most is how poor the Big Nine Conference is. Literally, one of if not the poorest in the state of hockey conferences. And it is getting worse down here. (Having one employer does that)

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

The MSHSL tried to adjust enrollment based on F/R lunch numbers and that generally works in football, basketball, track, soccer, etc where you need a piece of grass and some shoes. Hockey is a different animal..... so is golf, swimming, and gymnastics. I think the MSHSL would be wise to acknowledge ...

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

Karl, you bring up Dodge County which is interesting. Kasson Mantorville is growing and next year moves into the football district with Mankato West, Owatonna, and Winona. Current day football powers. Clearly they are growing. In hockey K-M co ops with a number of schools including Byron. The Byron ...

The U needs to be more proactive in this regard. There have been a few kids in Mankato that deserved a shot as a 3rd - 4th line player over a USHL also ran Lucia seemed to like.

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

Karl, it is not just inner ring suburbs but also tier 2 cities like Rochester, St. Cloud, and Duluth. Economics play a huge factor there as well.

You can make a very good argument that the F/R lunch rate is the #1 factor in hockey success.

Re: A and AA Enrollment Information

Belle Plaine had 1 kid on the team. I think Cleveland had 1 as well. We should applaud MN River for giving kids an opportunity, not punish them like they do to Dodge County. FWIW,years ago I officiated a playoff game between Burnsville, who won a state title that year, and LeSeuer. It was 1-0 going i...

You are spot on.

A mea culpa... John Marshall had an African American letter for the third straight year and I missed him. Inexcusable on my part.

Making the assumption Phoenix is close to Las Vegas in terms of hockey.....I spent 2 years there long ago. Get ready to spend a whole lot of money traveling. There will be a number of high quality players but not many teams so you end up traveling to Dallas, Las Vegas, Chicago, Detroit, etc. for tou...

Re: Development is YOUR responsibility

I agree with you almost 100%. I will add I think most sports are dying due to specialization. Football being different to the negative because of concussions. Track and Cross Country to the positive being different because everyone gets to compete. Trap shooting is growing exponentially. Hockey need...

Currently CTE can only being diagnosed by cadaver brains.

Unfortunately that makes the science somewhat limiting. CTE in Iraq and Afghanistan veterans is, again unfortunately, the group easiest to study. Hopefully we can, like in the aftermath of every war, further the science of medicine.

Enforce the rules as written. Fair Play is a detrimental to this. Referees are human and have a terrible angle for most calls. Nearly everyone has a video of every hit. Let the DD administrator suspensions.

Both the NHL and NCAA allows this. Youth should be no different if safety is what we want

He also lost to Holy Cross, and turned a premier college hockey program that drew 10,000 people to games at Mariucci to a team who draws 500 to a Big10 tournament game. Lucia was good coach, he won with Woog’s kids though. He underachieved with his own recruits! And largely turned Minnesota into an also ran. Some can, rightfully, be blamed on the Big10....heck mostly. But he did not adapt.

The MNSCU coaches did. Now Minnesota is irreverent.

Mankato does it with smoke, mirrors, and good recruiting. SCSU sold their souls to the devil in TP. Minnesota will fail because their coach made that deal. UMD is well coached and well recruited, my hunch is that they are the gold star of MN collegiate hockey going forward. East Coast schools who do...

The MSHSL has made it very clear they dont care about competitive balance they care about GEOGRAPHICAL balance. Then how in the hell do they split up Lakeville North and South? Geographically it makes some sense, I can hit a golf ball from South into a cornfield. 1AA is a SE Section, largely “rural...

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

Tartan was one of the smallest AA schools in the last cycle, about 100 students above the cutoff. Looking at the schools below them and knowing Northfield moved up it is entirely possible Tartan is in class A by enrollment.
