Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

There are lots of research showing how a student leaving high school a semester early to participate in spring practice shows more harm than good. Phillip Nelson may be the poster child of this in Minnesota high school football. When you get to hockey most of the “research” comes from USA hockey whi...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

Just my opinion..... Roseau continuing to opt opt keeps 8AA alive as we know it. There is no other reason for it to exist as a NW section. Moorhead is not a reason to keep a singular section alive. You could reasonably make an argument for a section of 218 teams, just as they did for 507 teams.

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

Forwards Logan Anderson and Jacob Jeannette leaving East for the USHL. Reported by Rick Weegman in the DNT today. East hadn't suffered from the early departure virus in a while. Lee WOW!! that's big losses at East. OUCH #-o Yeah, on the surface, it appears they will struggle to score goals. We'll f...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

I would never say never, schools that opt up keep the two separate northern sections alive. 1AA was, at one time, Austin, Albert Lea, Faribault, Owatonna, Century, John Marshall, Mayo, and Winona. 3 of those schools opted up, Lakeville didn’t come in until Albert Lea stopped opting up. Now, 1AA clea...

Re: All Time All Tournament Team

My list at goalie would be Stutz and Butters.

McDonagh would not make a top 10 or 20 list at defense for me. A great player but not great at the state tournament.

Re: Top 5 Goaltenders

Strange how McCarville is disregarded. He had a bad playoff game against a hot and experienced South team. My guess if Hastings was in 4AA he would be a top 5 goalie but since he is in 1AA he must suck. Go figure the bias here. Alex Kangas is one of the top Gopher goalies, Charlie Lindgren played in...

Re: TWINS

I think most fans appreciate good pitching. There just isn’t enough of it. Games Verlander starts draw larger than average crowds away from Houston. So has Kershaw, Scherzer, and Baumgartner in the past. No one wants to see Oderizzi throw 102 pitches in 5 1/3 innings.....too many pitchers like that....

Re: TWINS

Not exactly Twins related but no position players have been suspended this year for PED’s. Home runs are through the roof and “juiced balls” and launch angle is all the rage.... this reminds me more of the Sosa/McGwire years than anything else. Drugs are always in front of testing, looking at the pl...

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

Over the umpteen years I’ve attended HSEL games - they never fail to amaze me with their final tryout list and how so many “should be” locks have to tryout. And knowing many “locks” won’t make it due to whatever politics goes on in the background. There’s a ton imo. There's politics in everything i...

Re: Pre Pre-season (summer) 2019-2020 Single A rankings

Dodge County made the A Bantam state tournament. They dropped from AA to A, they may be a year away from being very competitive in A. This group pulled heavily from Lourdes and Rochester Century due to open enrollment to Byron. This group would be very competitive in 1AA.

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

Kids from Marshall are competing for spots with kids from Northern Lakes, Hill Murray, and Stillwater?

Kids from Owatonna compete with kids from Elk River, Andover, and North Branch?

Just admit politics matter, geography doesn’t.

Re: Top 5 Goaltenders

McCarville had a terrible playoff game, but it was his first and in hindsight South was peaking at the right time. Pundit and Weise play in a horrid conference and that helps their numbers but both are very good goalies who are probably knocked down due to where they live. Very unfairly IMHO. Alex K...

Re: Top 5 Goaltenders

Heard Boynton was selected for ASG at Fargo camp. Any word on if he was selected for roster spot? Glockner selected for ASG at Sioux Falls camp. Boynton made 30 man roster. Should be with Fargo next year. So he is no longer a top 5 goalie? Good to know. It helps the 1AA kids at Hastings, Owatonna, ...

Re: CTE in Hockey

On ice the NHL does a bad job, they can review any goal for offsides but don’t have the capacity to review hits to the head in real time? They do, retroactively, suspend players though.

The head contact mantra of the NFHS is when in doubt kick them out. The MSHSL is just the opposite.

Re: CTE in Hockey

People, in general, are not aware of the seriousness of concussions. Parents of athletes are, in general, some of the most ignorant people. Almost like smokers in their denial. There is no movement to ban contact sports. The goal needs to be to enforce the rules. The NHL does, the NCAA does. The NFL...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

My same argument..... Wrestling has 20 year old seniors, plenty of them. Do not go down that path, keep our youth aligned with the traditional school grades. By and large the pinnacle of most kids hockey lives is high school hockey. Keep that the dream, changing will just encourage the pay for play ...

I assume this is the Jake Taylor who has been an assistant there. From the outside this is a good hire, he has been pretty involved in the coaching for a few years. Has the potential to be a decent coach once JE's kids are gone from the program. Until then, as an employee of one of the many Enebak ...

Plenty of drama so stay tuned for the ugly details as they come out over the next few weeks. AD quit over the deal (ordeal). Actual top candidate turned it down. Not sure TE was even in the initial interview process. What a mess. Has any of the juicy details leaked out of Mendota Heights yet? I'm a...
