He would probably be disowned for going anywhere else given the family legacy  seriously, though, Notre Dame is an excellent school and program, and congrats to the youngest of the Janicke clan.

I would agree that stma is likely going to drop off. My guess is St Cloud drops off even more. Very little returning off last year’s team. Not sure what they have coming in but if I remember correctly their bantams weren’t great and they won’t even get all of them. I would think Buffalo is going to...

How did the teams in the section for these age groups fare at the youth level? I think Moorhead's senior class finished second in bantam AA to Minnetonka. Correct as usual, mi amigo. Their junior class also were consolation champs at state. None of the other teams have qualified for state at Bantam...

D3 athletics, some of you may laugh at it. Here is how D3 schools that have money really work. I graduated HS and was recruited for football by several D3 schools. The financial package they all put together were chock full of every type of scholarship name you could think of other than an "athleti...

Are we sure that STMA isn’t primed for a significant drop off this year? Sure, they return two dynamic scorers in Laylin and Flammang, but nearly everyone else of note from last year’s squad is lost to graduation. Of the ten other double digit scorers, only two return, and they also lose the goalie...

Whenever I hear (or see) the words "Division III" and "commitment" in the same sentence I laugh my @ss off. Just let it go dad...let it go What's even better is there are schools that have kids part of their National Signing Day that are D3 players in various sports. Schools were getting so much pr...

Where does the departure of Huglen come from? Not being on an Elite league roster? I haven’t heard any talk locally about him leaving. I was going by the early departures thread , but I see now that there are some questions about whether that information is correct (and I couldn’t find anything onl...

Congrats to them. But the "commit" statement here and elsewhere for D3 hockey is interesting. :P Yeah, that term is thrown around liberally when it comes to D3 athletics, even though there is no NLI or scholarship involved. Even the junior leagues seem to have a lack of understanding as to how the ...

That Hermantown beat down of Benilde is a bit surprising. That said, Hermantown vs. Mahtomedi is the ideal championship matchup in my mind, to see how two of the best Class A teams stack up at this stage.

Re: Summer Hockey Notes by KarlEast

]The third power in 7AA, Cloquet, also had a solid showing in Edina. The Jacks, in my mind, are a step behind East and Andover in both star power and depth, but not so far in either that they don’t have a fighting chance at winning the section. There is also the small matter of their head coach fol...

That's awesome! NESCAC schools are incredible! Good for him. On top of that east coast really supports the D3 hockey from a fan base and business community level. Would highly recommend any Minnesota kid to go out east for the hockey experience And in most cases the education ain't too bad either. ...

Re: Eden Prairie's John and Luke Mittelstadt commit to Gophe

From fans outside of the EP bubble, objectively, what are these Middlestadt boys like? Personality wise and ethics wise? Are they good kids? Great kids and great work ethic. Luke, though a defenseman so tough to compare, is believed to be as "talented" as Casey was at that age. He's still young so ...

During the discussion about players transferring multiple times, I thought for sure that Troy Riddle was going to be mentioned. I believe he played two years for Edison, one for Minnehaha Academy, and finished up with two at BSM. Riddle was certainly no slouch as a player, but he accumulated some hu...

http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/sports/hockey/4474509-prep-boys-hockey-smalley-steps-down-cec IMHO hiring a teacher is almost always the best option. Who is Kittleson and where did he transfer in from? AJ Kittelson is a rising senior from Holy Family. I believe he was a second line (maybe third?) forward there last year. Greenway schedule

That Greenway nonconference schedule is brutal. They are definitely not shying away from top level A and AA competition. Last year was no pushover, but adding teams like Blake, Moorhead, and Chaska makes it even a step worse. The Raiders will either be extremely battle tested come playoff time or co...

This is correct. Both Ness and Bjugstad accelerated their class after their sophomore years, so in effect skipped their junior years and were listed as seniors for their final year in high school. Poehling, on the other hand, skipped from being a junior to college. In theory the Ness/Bjugstad pathw...

[Odds are he is a player who will go pro early (assuming continued development under Motzko) so Gophers could very well get an extra year by bringing him in a year early. Maybe? Hopefully? It’s pretty hard to predict pro prospect status before the evaluation process really even starts. This being B...

Did Bjugstad? I could have sworn he played through his senior year at Blaine. That is correct, as he was Mr. Hockey in 2010. The UMD situation from last year was born out of necessity, given that they had four seniors graduate from the 2017 Frozen Four squad, and Pionk left after two years. The ori...
