I don't think dedication is the problem. Brains are.mulefarm wrote:Must be a real dedicated crew?hocmom wrote:How many will start the season with a full roster? We are down a half dozen between booze & chew.

I have been coaching for over 20 years in the same successful program Not everyone is the same. Some are just starting out. No one can know how much you know. How do you develop a program that is perfect for the beginner and the veteran? Would some vetrans benefit from a new idea or two? 20 years c...

A bit of nutrition info would be good, but very few would listen. It must be hard to coach that kid that just spent an hour in the car with a 847 ounce Monster drink and two bags of skittles. I would think coaches would prefer this to having to spend a day at a seminar. Outstate you have to pay atte...

In my 20 years on the board I had many jobs. I am more of an organizer than a hockey person. I ran tournaments, did fundraising, I was the pres for a bit, ran the meetings. Flipped lots of pancakes, that type of thing. The power trip is huge. I agree that it is good to have a mix of vetrans and new ...

Local boards are given lots of lattitude. District Boards are made up of mostly former/current members of local boards, same with state boards. These people have had to deal with all of this stuff many times over.InigoMontoya wrote: Can the local association refuse to allow the kid an opportunity to play hockey?

We had one family that bounced all over looking for someone that would recognize just how great Johnny was. They live in the land of perpetual dissatisfaction. There had to be an association somewhere that would recognize that dad was a genius and adopt all of his great ideas while he drank Mountain...

Many people are far to busy doing far much more important things than joining a hockey board. At the same time they are much smarter than the average board member. They brim with brand new ideas that have never been tried before. They have a solid grasp of how hockey is too expensive and too much is...

Sarcasm is lost on some. Over my 15 years on the board we have had mutliple complaints about tryouts. It does seem that the multiple complaints come from 2 or 3 families. Point was that in spite of the dozens of times that our judges have misplaced kids we have yet to see an obviously misplaced kid ...

It is good to remember that the grass is not always greener. The stories that parents and board members swap are pretty much the same from one town to the next. Years ago one of my kids played on a B team with 3 or 4 other kids who's parents were convinced they got hosed at tryouts. You would have t...
