Re: hibbing hockey scout part 2

Your responses were very humorous, and spot on. Yes, we do put our pant legs on at the same time, we just have cooler looking clothing . And NO, we don't think we are above everyone else in the arena, but then, why do people point out "Hey, there's a scout!"??? Because of the cooler looki...

hibbing hockey scout part 2

Sorry, gents. I was just having some fun, and wanted to see what your responses would be. I didn't mean to have the thread locked. I just didn't get back on board in time to respond before it got locked. Your responses were very humorous, and spot on. Yes, we do put our pant legs on one at a time, w...

that's a valid point - just ask him. Those guys put on their pants one leg at a time just like the rest of us. No we don't. That's why we are hockey scouts. Don't approach us.. don't ask. Sometimes we will inform coaches ahead of time that we will be watching a game, in case we want to talk to the ...

Jacob Meyers from Benilde is one of my favorite goalies to watch the past five years. He put on a nice show last night versus Hill. I have seen Hill twice now, in my work this year, and they pressure the puck as well as any team, and if Hill gets the 30+ shots on goal off the inexperienced WBL goalt...

Lucia hit on many points, but we also have to factor in, there ARE politics to ANY sport. It may be one player, it may be a series of players - it could be parent related - good or bad - could be booster related, could be family history. I can tell you that my son has been a victim and benefactor on...

When you are talking 15-18 year olds, these are the criteria a coach wishes he can have, but believe me, there are only a handful of players that can fill all of these. Let's also not forget about attitude/character, work ethic in PRACTICE, and academic smarts. There are some coaches that won't take...

[ t how basically out of the top 20 ranked goalies, only three were under 6' tall. Schools, juniors and pro teams will take a kid with great size and skill 80% of the time over a smaller, athletic goalie. We've all seen the huge goalie that everyone is afraid they can't score on, however lots of the...

Hahaha I appreciate that one. Too bad the Don missed out on Wayzata's best prospect, goalie Joe Howe who is tearing it up for Colorado College this year.

Papa. I hope you understand the logistical nightmares you would create by having each team create its own schedule. The conference schedulers do a pretty solid job at taking the home ice availability and creating a home and away schedule. It also eliminates extra pressure on coaches and athletic directors...

Being a Freshman, you still have 3 years to play high school hockey. Now comparing (in your case) a 50 game "A" Bantam schedule to a 20-25 game JV/Varsity schedule is not even close. Not to mention your son would only be a part time player at that. I know my son couldn't believe how short...

This is a very difficult subject. First off, if you are SURE the player will be on varsity, then I think there needs to be a conversation between the coach, the player and the parent(s). The ultimate goal is to play HS hockey, and the varsity coach should be no different than a professional coach. W...

Mr. Leddy is a fine talent, and he may be the best player of this decade out of HS, but it sure is hard to pass on the stars of different eras. Paul Holmgren was a beast in the 70s, Stauber, Bjugstad... the list is endless. But my vote is for Housley. In an era that was 80% Canadien dominated, for a...

Karl. Very "meaty" subject. It is in my opinion that the best coaches are the ones that HAVE a system, implement the system, teach the system, but if there is/are exceptional player(s) on that team, the best coaches will adapt and tweak the system and philosophy that, in the end, creates a...

If they physically have moved addresses, they should be entitled to transfer. I am not privy of the school proximities, that would be left up to Karl (east) to specify, but, if Denfeld was several miles away from Marshall, etc, they could technically transfer with the move AND/OR the coach may give ...

To the best of my knowledge, if a goalie ordered brand new pads last year, all the manufacturers were making all pads, gloves and blockers NHL spec size. If the pads are a couple years old, it's in the player's or association's best interest to replace them now.

To go 11 picks ahead as a goalie vs a forward is a much bigger deal in the NHL draft. Regardless of where you think his stock went you cant argue he prepared himself better for college and pro hockey. He saw a lot more shots in games and practice from much better players. Played against stronger pl...

Just to clarify, Vanek played two years in college. Not one.
I stand corrected, but he only needed the one year. If my memory serves me, he had 30 goals his freshman year and was talked about turning pro, but the $$$ weren't offered to his liking.

I think people are putting a little too much stock in to this draft. The NHL draft is unlike any other draft in sports because you have juniors and seniors in high school getting drafted. It's a mix of guys like Tavares that are going to play in the NHL next year and more than likely make an impact...

Puckmaster - since you are not a scout, a coach or have inside sources, then your opinion doesn't matter. Atleast Youngblood can say he knows Phil Housley!! I am just kidding.
