Re: AA Rankings for 2/17/13 and Section Preview

Happy section tournament time! This week, instead of putting the write-ups with the rankings, I’ll simply list the end-of-regular-season Top 25, then make my comments on the teams in the features on each section. 5AA Quarters: Sat 2/23 Champlin Park/Coon Rapids Semis: Wed 2/27 Coliseum Final: Fri 3...

No doubt, good to see this group of talented boys on the ice again. All of the rosters look strong but in looking at the NW roster I was not surprised to hear that they outplayed SE. Are any teams going to emerge and run away with the league? How will the Colorado and Great Plains team hold up?

Intersting pick on the AA side. MG has a big test Tuesday against BSM and if they get by that they could make a run into January.

Some ugly scores in pool play/seeding games. Quite the range of team/district talent and pool strength (or weakness in some cases). **** At New Hope Next Weekend **** 8 Team Tourney comprised of: District 6 / 8 / 10 / 16 = Pool Winners ~and~ District 2 / 4 / 5 / 15 = 2nd Place in Pool 4 Team Tourne...

Granted...we don't have to play in Sunmart every week but that rink is so bad it's actually kind of cool and a unique experience for the kids. When the kids play in Fargo all the rinks tend to blend together...but they remember Sunmart!

A great fast paced, physical, Bantam A hockey game. MV capitalized on a powerplay late in the third period to knot up the score.

Romulus plays for the Wolfpack; he is coached by his dad, Wolfie. He has DI offers from North Dakota, Boston College, and Vatican City. Romulus is projected to be the number one pick in the 2016 NHL draft. When he is not on the ice or at the rink, Romulus likes to play with his pet hamster. He favo...

How bout wayzata and OMG? Watched these two squads the other night in a D3 match up. Both top lines looked very good and moved the puck well. OMG's top line notched all three goals including the game winner. I was told OMG's #3 was out with injuries but he was centering that line and looked to be f...

Way to early to put any kind of merit in the rankings. It will be interesting to see what shakes out of the Duluth tournament this weekend. If you look at the current ranking teams from #7 Wayzata through #12 North St. Paul have a 14-19 record with only one team above 500. I would be interested in t...

As far as Maple Grove Bantams coming up: Gross likely will be the 4th/5th Defensemen and will help them for sure especially on the Power Play. Some very talented players but I don't see them making a huge impact on a very deep team. Augustine and Randall will be very good and could play 3rd line, h...

Any update on the D1 vs. D2 scrimmage last night? The D2 squad is really a mystery this year and I'm wondering if they will have the depth to make noise at the Festival this year.

Interesting that OMG and Wayzata are in opposite pools in more than one level for regions! Three of the regions have sleeper teams that can possibly do some damage in the tournaments. I would put Eagan, Apple Valley, Elk River, Moundsview, EGF, and Andover in this group. The South region is a littl...
