The times have certainly changed. I grew up on the Iron Range in the prime of the hockey boom. Friday and Saturday nights used to bring out 4-5-6,000 crazy screaming hockey fans to the local arenas. Hibbing vs Grand Rapids....A-HL vs Int'l Falls....Greenway vs Grand Rapids....Eveleth vs Virginia.......

I know Warroad used to play the Mesabi East Giants to start their season in the late 90s, are they still around? Aurora - Hoyt Lakes (Blackhawks) had some very competitive teams mid 70's to mid 80's (often ranked in top 20, occasionally top 10). Changed to Mesbai East (Giants) with the consolidation of area schools, and then the hockey program disappeared. Other small mining towns have had similar fate. Babbit...
