Re: History Made at the 2025 Tourney
I didn't see any of the Rosemount/Centennial game, but I would not be surprised if one of the keys was the fact that Rosemount was making its third straight trip to state while Centennial didn'thave that kind of tournament experience. I agree. Cent/SLP was there two years ago and had a great team l...

Re: History Made at the 2025 Tourney
First time ever the #2 seed has lost in the quarterfinals in girls tourney history (BOTH classes) Rosemount with an impressive upset over Centennial/SLP. The #1 seed is now the loan seed to never have lost a first round game in girls tourney history. Also for comparison #3 seed is (29-4 all time in...

Re: Tonka - New Prague
Good to see a post about this. My opinion is that there shouldn't be "A" and "AA" in girls hockey. Have one division but play for two titles. Take the top 32 teams based on some computer system (what's the one we had around here) and put them in the MSHSL tourney. Then have the ...

Re: Tonka - New Prague
I know the girls forum is pretty much dead but time for the annual "what the heck are we doing, MSHSL??" post. Tonka beats New Prague 22-0 tonight. Shots 100-2, not a typo. What good came of this game? I'm sure some will blame Tonka for not taking their foot off the gas, maybe they didn't...

Re: 2024 Girls State High School Hockey Tournament
First time in a while its looked like a random draw as Tonka, as the #1 seed, gets Maple Grove. A tough first round matchup for sure. Minnetonka had the same tough 1st round match-up last year against Centennial/SLP, and barely got by them. Here’s the field with their rankings, for what it’s worth:...

Re: 2024 Section Tournaments
They all were, if you wanted to pay. 6 of the top 11 teams in the last AA poll failed to make state. Pretty crazy. The last ranking on the girls hockey hub shows 6 of the top 10 making it. 1. Minnetonka 2. Hill Murray 3. Andover 5. Edina 8. Northfield 10. Maple Grove I went from this (Feb 5): https...

Re: 2024 Section Tournaments
Or cap AA at top 40 or so enrollments plus opt-ups and put the rest in A. The enrollment cut-off is far too arbitrary particularly in this sport. Not sure what the exact solution is but MSHSL has to think outside the box and avoid these games. Right on, cap at 40 or 48 for class AA (or make it Clas...

Re: 2024 Section Tournaments
Northfield wins 18-0, up 9-0 seven minutes into the game. What are we doing? Why is Austin in AA? I agree. AL’s enrollment is only 760 and the MSHSL cutoff for AA was 1047 and above. That means they elected to play-up. Makes no sense. Also, I would have no problem with a running clock starting in t...

Re: Games of the Night
SOS for South Suburban teams in particular is a bit of a vacuum as over 70% of their games are against one another. But I agree with what I think you're hinting at, I fully expect both North and South to make it but will be overwhelmed by the top teams at state. (Even though they both have a qualit...

Re: Games of the Night
I was telling some folks at a game the other day, this 8 team field in AA may be the deepest ever. It is entirely likely all 8 sections send someone with 5 or less losses. Anything can happen. Rankings have dumped HM down to like 7th for losing to Andover and Tonka. Except they had already beat bot...

Jaycee Chatleain (12 pts as a 7th grader, 28 as an 8th grader) jumps ship from Centennial prior to the start of her freshman season to Hill Murray. With O'Hara (59 pts) and O'Hearn (29 pts) graduating, 116 points has disappeared from the core of their offense. Centennial's top line will still be goo...

Re: Minnesotans in Division lll Hockey
The DIII tourney is currently strictly formula driven based on the Pairwise poll, with no room for voting or negotiation. Of the 4 NESCAC schools in the tourney, Middlebury and Colby have records of 16-7-3 and 17-7 respectively. Meanwhile, UW-Eau Claire, the first team out, has a record of 22-4-2, ...

Glad that's over with. What a dull final. :? Yes, every 5-6 years there’s a clunker AA championship game. Last one was 2017 when Edina crushed Blaine. Gentry was playing with a chip on their shoulder, and Andover played their worst game since probably the 2016/17 season. The tourny will be most mem...

Re: tourney
Pretty obvious they are poorly coached. No adjustments and power play has no creativity and forces plays. When your first unit is all signed with umd/um I expect to see something ultra impressive. A 5-3 with Ava Lindsey standing 70 ft out on the half wall and forcing marginal plays to the net says ...

I don’t care who wins tonight and from looking at past games for both, it’s too hard to predict. I just hope that it goes 2 or 3 OT’s and there’s no cheap-shots.

Agree with eagles. Sometimes I think girls play better as underclassman like tonka did last year as primarily juniors. I don’t know if the pressure of being seniors got to these girls or what. They looked uninspired and played like it was another game in January. I was at the game and thought gentr...

Re: tourney
Cent/SLP certainly made things interesting. Hats off to them for a great effort. I wonder how Tonka is feeling after that. Nice to see at least one good contest today. Unshocking blowouts in the other 3 games (combine 22-0). After those efforts, Cent/SLP should be able to take the consolation champi...
