Kids Are Losing Out

I'm sorry to drudge up another negative about this pilot program but I think this is another example of what is wrong with it. The districts that are not having a district playoff are cheating those kids out of a chance to play playoff hockey. What other level of hockey do you not begin the playoffs...

That is utterly ridiculous Quacker. Not for Mites, but for Squirts and above, 2 hours is ideal. Show my a practice plan that can go 2 hours that keeps kids interested. There has to be a ton of standing around and waisted ice time. Maybe some skating around cones. We practice 2+ hrs 2-3 times a week...

To start the "splitting hairs" debate. I have been told 2 hour practices are not allowed if the ice is resurfaced after the 1st hour. So it is ok to skate for 2 hours straight, but not 1st hour, Zam, 2nd hour. Anyone heard of this? Unless your association has a rule against it, there is n...

Not only is the Edina team full of talent, but they play way better as a team than last year's edition. also, both their goalies are returnees, and are a year better. On top of that, if there is an injury then they can call up a player from the A team who would be a star on most team's AA squad. Ha...

I don't know if the Duluth bantam team is ranked correctly or not but whoever is ranking the peewees is sure missing the boat by not having the Duluth peewees in the top 3! That team is BIG & Skilled...rare combination at the peewee level. My prediction is they are your state peewee champs this ...

Bottom line is this is a reaction to 1 tragic accident that happens about once every 15 years in this state. Even with STOP signs on jerseys (which btw, does anyone even realize these are on the jerseys anymore) or increased penalties this sad thing will happen again to some other unfortunate player...

Re: simple way to correct it

There is no 10 minute penalty for boarding in any league. The options for minnesota hockey are 5 minute major or 5 minute major and game misconduct. I would be interested if anyone out there is activly contact the MH board or doing any work at all to have the penaly times put back to 2 minute penal...

Hey, all you refs out there, do you ever get the feeling you just can't win? IMHO, the rule is fine. These kids need to learn what a dangerous hit is. Boarding calls are avoidable by the players. Most boarding calls occur when players are battling for the puck. When a player is along the boar...

Re: Burnsville Bantam AA Coach

There is a rumor that the Burnsville AA bantam coach was run out after the beginning of the season...any details or is this just rumors? Squash the rumor. PM moved to Colorado for a job. He had done a fantastic job with the BHC for years. We are excited that we have found a great replacement that h...

Agree. Five games watched this weekend, multiple misconducts each game. One game watched do not think there was more than 5 minutes of the 45 min game that was 5 on 5. Also not aware of serving time of 15 min for the player being called. 5 min major, one player to sit for that and player out 15 min...

Re: the new boarding rule. good or bad?

My son's team was in a tourney in Moorhead this weekend and every game had a boarding call with a game misconduct. I hate this rule if the kid lays on the ice the misconduct is called, if he gets up it is not,Dumbest rule ever. The days of 5 on 5 hockey in Minnesota are over. Coaches really shouldn...

Re: D6 Checking from behind rule

At the rink tonight, I was talking with a couple of contacts in D6 that are shaking their heads , frustrated with D6's new Checking from behind rule. They are saying its to a point where at the Bantam level, coaches are making a conscience decision to schedule less games/scrimmages to try to avoid ...

Should Minnesota Hockey scrap A/AA Pilot Program?

Based on what I have read it doesn't seem as if this program is anywhere near ready to be used for the upcoming season. It also seems as if there has been very poor communication between MH & their associations. Based on my conversations with people from around the state, everyone seems to have ...

I think if they were to go back into the LSC then all the bad things everyone has been talking about will probably happen. The independent schedule East has the ability to put together is a tremendous benefit to the program. To lose those highly competitive games to Conference games would hurt them ...

This year is going to hit East hard. They had a very good bantam team and their top 5 players are all either going to Marshal now are will transfer for next year. The 2nd and 3rd line kids are respectable but not close to what is leaving for Marshal. The Duluth School system is a huge mess. Think i...

First off, Mike isn't going anywhere! He still has a couple years left to teach before he can retire & he's not going to spend his year just teaching. I don't think he is going to join the UNO staff, they are already in pretty good shape plus Jake isn't going right in to play any way. Where is ...

As someone whose kid goes to a private school, I would like the privates to band together and form a league, competing nationally. Ok let me first say I was not & am not a fan of a 2 class tournament, but I think we can all agree they aren't going back to a great eight scenario. With that, I think the only way to fix it is to add another class. AAA- The Big Schools, this is all the largest enrollment schools, Wayzata, Eden ...

Seriously...Can Anyone Still Defend STA Playing Single A?

The High School League really needs to go back & remind themselves why they made this a 2 class tournament, what has gone on this weekend cannot be what was intended.
