After 2 days I have been pleased to see quite a few more scouts than anticipated. The NAHL was well represented. There have also been some D1 and D3 scouts, a couple of NA3's and those were the ones I noticed. It's been a good pace of hockey and the kids seem to be having fun. Good experience so far.

A few years back when Richfield was fielding a team that could compete with most single A teams, they were in a conference that contained STA, HM, and a few other real top notch teams. They worked out a modified conference schedule where they played a few of those schools only once (I believe that S...

As mentioned above, it's simply a very lopsided mismatch. Looks like Giles did the best to call off the dogs and just play his 3rd and 4th lines but it's difficult to ask them to not play hard when they finally get a chance. I was at a Holy Angels game several years ago when they were winning champi...

I'd say for at least the first year it doesn't matter A or AA because it's really for the playoffs and if they're JV only there won't be playoffs. They can make whatever schedule they want during the regular season. I am very pleased they are doing this. Richfield was Class A before this season and ...

Add Shattuck's to the list. They are a Minnesota high school.

Maybe Shawn Reid slides over to the boys side after great success on girls side? Heard a rumor two of the top players leaving. But they sure recruited the heck out of the Minneapolis Storm grabbing 7 or 8 kids from the Bantam AA team that were state runner up a couple of seasons ago in Pee Wee AA. A...

Also regarding ZH - You would have a tough time finding a harder working, nicer kid. I don't know if he peaked early or not but he certainly never stopped working hard and being a leader and I don't believe he has stopped now. Also, with over 700 kids in the Storm system there seems to be plenty of ...

Minneapolis is finally starting to keep some of that talent. There historically have been so many departures to privates but the five (six, really) kids Jake Hale speaks of that grew up playing together won a state championship a few years ago in pee wee A. Three very good sophomore D and three good...

Nicely done. Back when I was a football player for Richfield HS there were the two Edinas, both in our conference and all the games in that old Lake Conference were very competitive. On the two days every season that we would play one of the Edinas, the Richfield varsity football players would get c...

I hesitate to respond to an initiall post that may have been a bit trollish and was definitely posted in frustration but I'm gonna anyways. The Richfield situation has so much to do with the demographics. It is correct that you need to recruit hard in any community to keep up and build your feeder p...

It's interesting. On the Hockey Hub Richfield looks as if they cancelled all the games until Dec. 15th. They were supposed to play Minneapolis on Nov 28th but now Minneapolis plays Kennedy on that date. Could they somehow just be delaying the start of the season until they got it together? On the ot...

Another thing to keep in mind is that economics narrows the pool considerably with many of the Tier 1 programs outside Minnesota. An average community hockey program in Minnesota could have many more kids to pick from for their Bantam AA team due to large participation numbers because it's relativel...

There's also a Richfield kid at Kennedy and another at Holy Angels. There were two at Jefferson the last few years. I believe the one at Kennedy likely left Richfield because what just happened was inevitable. The Edina kid left for the school system early on. Many high schools lose tons of kids fro...

True story from a pee wee game I was coaching in several years ago. We were playing our cross town rivals in a very high paced, heated game and things on the bench were happening at a typical chaotic level. One of my players comes off the ice on the fly for a line change and asks if I have my cell p...

Richfield HS Hockey Folded?
Sad day if the rumor is true, though obviously the writing has been on the wall for a long time. I heard a rumor that only 11 or 12 players came out and a couple got minors. Not enough to play with 11 - 12 players and certainly too few to sustain any injuries or suspensions. They haven't had a JV si...

They have a couple of kids from Minneapolis that are freshmen this year that have very good speed that could help them as sophs next season. One is Sande's little brother. It shouldn't take them too long to transition from Bantam AA to varsity as far as the pace. We'll see as far as the rest of the ...
