Tier 1 National Tournament 2009

U18 Tier 1 National Tournament should be a good one. See Link for qualifying teams. Many of these teams would handle our best high school teams quite easily. Should be a great Tourney this year with no clear favorite. http://www.usahockey.com/Tournament/TournamentStandingTab.aspx?EventID=2198&Ag...

Dallas' top teams web site is dallasstarsaaa.com they could handle most mn high schools top teams because they are comprised of the top players from a large area. I've seen them play as well as other teams in the Midwest elite league, they have some top notch players.

I was impressed with the quality of play during the tournament...a lot of talent in one spot. Also, there was an impressive showing by team reps, scouts, assistant coaches, etc. Evidently not all of next years rosters are set in stone...many of these kids are late bloomers and just starting to devel...

I think Matt Reber from Edina led all scorers last year and was not on the All Tournament team...it helps to win that first game. Goff will have his name in the program forever as the 2008 Class AA leading scorer.

I agree with the Goff suggestion... Leading scorer of the tournament. Woodbury's goalie Brandon Wigen also had a great tournament...outplayed the Edina goalie for sure.

Goff, Pittman, Hyland for Woodbury. David Eddy and the Royals will need these guys at their best for Woodbury to make a run.

Woodbury had their back-up goalie in for over half the game last time around. He ended up 2-4 on the season. Wigen ended 19-2 (W -L).

Not saying that they won't show up...just that the end result won't mean a heck of a lot. Woodbury has already sewn up the SEC and you still need to win 3 straight to go to St. Paul...line matching is overrated.

Looks like Ottawa is gearing up for a deeper playoff run. Not sure if Eaves and Corvo will have the same impact for the Canes. Interesting trade... all good players.

I'm not sure this game matters too much. They are both good teams. Win or lose 3-2 won't shake up the seedings a heck of a lot. More of a 'pride' game for both teams.

So let's see, HM has 18 kids on a team from 14 different communities, they play multiple games against teams like Sibley, North St. Paul, Simley, St. Paul Central, Richfield, Tartan etc. and we should be impressed with there records and individual stats? Come on guys be real.

I liked the Canes of 2006. They may be slightly on the downslope in 2008. All the veterans are 2 years more banged up and already have a Stanley Cup. They still have a solid core group (Stillman, Cole, Whitney, Brindamore, Hedican etc.), but sometimes they look a little stiff against some of the you...

Final was 5-3 Andover. Woodbury started their second tender (last time was against Hopkins), in a nutshell it was not a good night for him. Kind of took the fire out of the team when Andover scored on 3 straight shots in the 2nd period. As we all know, final scores don't always tell the whole story.

I'm more familiar with East metro teams. A few kids I have noticed... Mueller-Roseville, Brown-Rosemount, Goff and Eddy-Woodbury all seem to have good upside.

Woodbury has beaten Hill, Cretin and White Bear this year, all firsts in their schools history. Can they do it again against a strong Edina team?. Might be too much to ask but I can't bet against my boys - Royals 3-2.

Nice Tying goal by Benny Goff of Woodbury. He slipped it by the D then roofed it on McEnaney. Goff will be one to watch when he puts another 20 lbs on that frame.
