WBL student section is very good. However, for being lauded as one of the best in the state turnout is not that great. I know that Hill doesn't show up unless we're playing white bear, but WBL has over 4,000 students in 9-12, and only 200 were at the coliseum last night.

Whatever the number was, it was twice as big as Roseville's and HM's. They were also incredibly loud for most of the third period.Basil Chaps wrote:WBL student section is very good. If you like rude, out of bounds, vulgar, trailor park cheers then White Bear is your team. Definite public school mentality.SECHockeyFan wrote:WB and Burnsville need to meet up in the state tournament so we can see who has the better student section. After last night's performance at the coliseum, it's gotta be WB.

My point was for a school more than 4x as big as hill and twice as big as Roseville doubling their student section isn't that great. They were loud. Hill will never be able to keep a constant roar going for the first three minutes of a period. However, like PPG said students sections don't win the game and hill will bring it on the ice.SECHockeyFan wrote:Whatever the number was, it was twice as big as Roseville's and HM's. There's no denying that a good crowd helps a team gain momentum. You can't say they have no effect on the game.Basil Chaps wrote:My point was for a school more than 4x as big as hill and twice as big as Roseville doubling their student section isn't that great. Sure, WB may have had 200 kids, but that filled up an entire section at the Coliseum and every one of those 200 was yelling. WB's section was set up right behind Roseville's bench, and when Rose called a TO when down 4-3, a WB student yelled "Get Loud!" and all the students started yelling and making noise any way they could to make it hard for Roseville's coach to talk to his players.

Umm no, they're just inconsiderate of the people in adjacent sections by obstructing the view for the the people who prefer to actually use the seat they paid for. I don't pay $6 to go to a game to stare at the backs of high school students. Be considerate and sit the hell down, and let everyone else see the game too.SECHockeyFan wrote:Any school that sits during the game doesn't have real fans.

1. Don't complain about not being able to see when sitting next to a student section. Just move seats, we paid 6$ too buddy. Or, you could have went and sat in either Hill's or Roseville's student section, there was plenty of room.
2. Don't try and play the numbers game. You may be able to argue that Hill has a tough time drawing students to hockey games because they have less students. Please. You can draw a better crowd than last night. Don't even get me started on Roseville's lack of support for their team. They hardly had a third of their section filled up. I hope their student section wasn't looking past last nights game and planning on just going to watch them play Hill-Murray.
3. Vulgar chants? We're you at the same game I was last night? Maybe you thought our use of "Bullsh*t" was a little over the top. Well if that's the case, I'm sorry, plug your ears. Chants, no matter the nature, make the idea of a student section all that much better.
4. Numerous White Bear hockey players showed much love to the loud atmosphere of our school's student section. There is no way that cheering plays no role in helping out the team. Sheesh, think before you post.
5. We are one of the best student sections in the state. End of story.

Well at the public schools we call them Trailer Parkshockeyhockeyhockey wrote:If you like rude, out of bounds, vulgar, trailor park cheers then White Bear is your team. And you must believe that chants such as "Welfare Money" and "The wheels on your house go round and round" and even "Your Dad works for our Dad" are just nothing more than playful humor.
Or is it that they come out of the mouths of the privileged children who attend Private schools that makes those cheers OK?

Well back in the day, Edina would read the paper when the other team's starting line up was being announced. I also like Hill Murray and Duluth East. My most favorite tho was Grand Rapids. I don't recall the year, I think that is was in the late 80s, but the cheerleaders had HUGEST pom poms, the band would do the "Tomahawk Chop" and they had the coolest mascot with the big headress and the leather pants with fringe. They filled the whole side of the Civic Center.
Agreed. Or just stop being so lazy and stand up yourself. I never understand why parents think they own the stands but they never actually cheer? And without students at games how lame would the atmosphere be?SECHockeyFan wrote:Than don't sit behind the students next time, idiot.wogggieee wrote:Umm no, they're just inconsiderate of the people in adjacent sections by obstructing the view for the the people who prefer to actually use the seat they paid for. Everyone hates private schools (and Edina)!!
Not an athlete? Or maybe HM sections are just so bad they don't help out the players. Good student sections make the game so much more intsense and so much more fun, not only for the students but also, and especially, the players. If you are on the field or court or ice or whatever it is and you hear your friends in the stands backing you up, it makes a HUGE difference.Pioneerprideguy wrote:How many students sections actually won a hockey game?

1. There is not always an open seat away from the student section. I try to avoid them like the plague if i can, but it is not always possible. And when that its the case I'd like to be able to see the game. Are arenas just supposed to loose an entire seating section because the students don't have the consideration and courtesy to sit down so others can see. Whatever happened to having consideration for those around you? it doesn't say much for a student section when they take pride in deliberately obstructing the views of others and preventing them from enjoying the game as well.
2. I'm not too lazy to stand. I am not physically able to stand for 51 minutes of hockey. I was barely able to make it into the coliseum from the car and to my seat. And even if i were able to stand, i wouldn't have a desire to. There is absolutely no reason to stand for the ENTIRE game. If something exciting happens, sure, i don't have a problem with that. But just during normal play it is completely unnecessary.
