It depends on what seed they end up getting. If they end up playing whoever is the 6th seed in the 3-6 game, the good white bear team will need to show up. However if they end up in the 2-7 game against most likely johnson, I think they will handle them pretty easily as much as govs93 hates to hear it.GopherWild wrote:I know most people expect Hill Murray, Roseville & White Bear Lake to advance to the Coliseum for Section SF's. However with White Bear Lake we don't know which team will show up. The last 2 seasons they played Stillwater in the QF's and escape with a win but not looking very impressive either time. In 2006 they beat the Ponies on a late 3rd period goal and look like a different team beating Centennial in their next game. In 2007 they beat the Ponies in OT and look a lot better shutting out Roseville 4-0 the next game. Does anybody else think that they need to play better in the QF's this season if they want a 3rd shot at beating Hill Murray for a State Tournament berth?

With WBL beating MV 4-0 last night, they tied Roseville's SEC record. If they finish with the same record, my guess would be WBL getting the #2 seed and a Quarterfinal matchup with Johnson and Roseville would get the #3 seed and most likely go up against Tartan. Stillwater should get the #4 seed because they did beat Roseville & White Bear Lake on the road and they do play a tough schedule. Mounds View knows how tough the SEC is and even with the bad conference record they should still get a #5 seed. If they lost to Tartan I would say #6 but that should go to Tartan even though Tartan beat Hill Murray once this season. North St. Paul & Como Park should be the 8/9 game and I am hoping NSP is the #8 seed with last line change.
I wouldn't be counting anyone into the semi-finals of the section other than Hill-Murray. Roseville, White Bear Lake and Stillwater all have head-scratching losses on the year. Any or all of them could easily lose their first round game. Johnson is not a bad team. They aren't great, have a lot of deficiencies, but one hot goalie and a couple of well timed goals could slip by WBL. As the season has gone on, this has become a weaker section. Teams 2-7 aren't that far from each other and any of them still have a punchers chance of beating Hill. It is clearly Hill's section to lose, but you never look past a proabble WBL final (so mark me down as one hoping Johnson knocks them off).

Meaning if they fell to #8, they'd have to play the play-in game against North St. Paul where the Govs' only "star", Joe Rubbelke, will be playing next year.formerlybackofnet wrote:Meaning?Govs93 wrote:I don't think that even if the Governors roll over for Como Park tonight they could fall to the #8 seed, which is too bad. They could have had 2 really fun games from that spot.
Assuming they won that, they'd get Hill-Murray.

Why is he playing for north next year?
Somebody else can explain the loophole... It's weird, I don't understand it that well, and it gives me a headache trying to figure it out. All I know is that the Govs will need to make their run at State Tournament glory this year, because they're screwed next year.

Long way to go for such a lame payoff... Kind of like a Pioneer trip to the State Tournament.Pioneerprideguy wrote:I believe very strongly in the Make-A-Wish Program. You don't happen to believe in the Special Olympics too do you? Your "joke" was retarded.
Of course you're a HM supporter, so I know the answer to my question. Nevermind.

Sorry to hear you think it was such a weak response. I thought it was kind of unique.Pioneerprideguy wrote:Typical weak response...pretty consistant...like Johnson losing.
I'd open it to a "bored" vote to see who they think had the better response, but much like Hill-Murray hockey in late November, you'd go into it with such high hopes of coming out on top, only to find yourself heatbroken and a loser in the end... I can't do that to you twice in one year!

But at least we get to the plate to take our swings against the best. Your team is long gone by this time. Doesn't that hurt year after year? Knowing your program is slowing fading away? Knowing games they play are no longer of interest (other than tonight's for your dream)? Knowing you must hang onto the past because the present is so bad & the future looks even worse? Who knows, may the high school league will revert back to the tier system, add several more layers, and your school may be able to compete. Dare to "Dream".

Go to a Johnson regular season game, then go to a HM one... tell me who has more in the crowd. No longer of interest?
Last year... HM vs. Moorhead at Aldrich... I was in the stands (on the Moorhead side), and I can tell you that the HM side was no more than 1/3 full - if that - the sections on either end of that side were completely bare, and the ones in between were spaced way out. You could've had your pick of seats on the red line. Against Moorhead who was 22-1 at the time... and nobody for HM shows. I promise you that you'll see more in attendance at the Johnson/Como game tonight than you did at that game. It was pathetic. You can think what you want, but if you think nobody's interested, I suggest you look in the mirror.
Do your homework. Your lack of knowledge is making you look awfully bad... Your club doesn't need any more help with that.

Back on topic I have it like this:
1. HM
2. WBL
3. Roseville
4. Tartan
5. Stillwater
6. Mounds View
7. Johnson
8. North
9. Como
As for who wins: HM is clearly the favorite. But I was there in 1991 when a below average (16-6 regular season) HM team rallied from down 3-0 to beat #1 state ranked WBL 4-3 in the section final and went on to win the state title the next week. And I was there in 1996 when a 8-14-1 WBL team beat #1 and 22-1 HM in OT in the section semis. Anything can happen.

I'd like to see Hill-Murray come out of sections with a win. First because I am a fan of Hill. But more importantly because I am a HUGE fan of the State Tourney and I think Hill would give us a better show at the Exel. I very much enjoy watching tournament games that are electrifying until the last second and I think this year's team could provide that drama. (of course I've also thought that in the past couple of years and have been slightly disappointed)

There's the difference my friend. You actually went to a Hill game & I wouldn't be caught dead at a Johnson game!! As for interest, 16,000 people showed up for one of our games last year and how about yours?Govs93 wrote:Good one!Pioneerprideguy wrote:But at least we get to the plate to take our swings against the best. I'm surprised to see that the Govies don't get invited to play in the Schwan's Cup given the state wide interest people have in their program. Also kinda surprised to see that FSN doesn't show them on TV during the course of the season (4:00 pm Sat vs the Spuds

Yep, great program ya have going there. So why is "Big Joe" transferring again? The future looks great with what, 10 JV players?
