I Falls vs. Grand Rapids February 8
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
Lee, you could probably lock it up at any time. Seems as though the youth of I'Falls think they know all and don't understand what's respectable behavior and what's not. For the last time, the cheering, the chants without profanity and being loud was great. That's what makes the atmosphere fun and exciting. The rudeness, filthy language, and throwing things at 12 year old girls(the GR 12u team was there)and their parents was not acceptable. I for one was sitting farther away from the students having moved my 7 year old child away from the mess, but it was clear to everyone what was going on. The fish throwing, while stupid, wasn't as offensive as the other things that were going on. Must be the day and age, respect & class isn't taught everywhere I guess. Allowing this type of behavior is a sign that those things aren't as important as in some places.
And for the record, I think fighting in the NHL is great. It allows the players to police the game themselves.

THANK YOU! and you know what GR just because I've only posted once, doesn't mean I don't read the posts on here. I'm not an idiot. As for parents being directed... This I doubt. Everyone knows that the students sit there every single game. A fish is a fish.. our boys get excited when their fans are rallying behind them. Stay out of tradition.. it's not hurting you! And if you think we have no class... you were in the opposing team's student section being an a-hole to a bunch of teenagers... whose got class now?
How does throwing garbage at the people sitting in front of you (a girls 12U team) get your team riled up? How does screaming and calling people from the opposing team names (that will get me banned) get your team riled up? Why does it matter if people were in the student section or next to it? The poor taste things that your students were displaying could be heard and seen sections away. I would imagine that players on the I Falls team that have class would not be proud of a lot of the things that were said and done. There were also little kids around.
There is a huge difference between pumping up your team and possibly getting in the other team's head as compared to making complete fools out of yourselves by totally distasteful behavior. Your student section definately displayed the latter of the two.

Re: Norcon comment
Have you even seen the Falls play and do you think they'd be ranked is high as they are if they are a one man show? Youso has a nice team around him, a solid goaltender, and they work their tails off trying to get him the puck. A players talent is not based on just goals and assists, especially when you're talking about D1 prospects. As I stated earlier, I believe he will be a very nice player at the next level, but there are parts of his game that need improvement. P.S. Sounds like you would fit right in with a few of those eelpout tossers in the Falls student section.hockey59 wrote:Norcon...or moron?...your evaluaton of top end hockey talent is about as accurate (and up-to-date) as the ancient hockey stick your call name refers to...norcon wrote:What game were you at??? Rapids outshot Falls for the game. Falls did close the gap late in third period when Rapids seemed to tire a bit and the disallowed goal was a joke. The ref who blew the whistle was in no position to be doing so. Territorial advantage definitely to the orange. Falls scoring chances came from rushes up the ice with Youso, but they did not sustain a forecheck at all. As far as Youso, he's dynamite when he has the puck, but he is a one dimensional player. Very little forecheck, backcheck, or gritty work along the boards. A player with his offensive skills is going to put up huge numbers playing the schedule they do. One season in the USHL to work on the rest of his game and he should become a nice player for the U.poonjabi wrote:Youso is by far a better player than anyone on the GR team that is for sure. GR got beat by a better team in the end, the got outplayed. They were luckey the game even went into overtime. It would have been a blowout if the falls would've capitalized on their chances.![]()

Jake has no choice but to be a one-man show in IF ...and he does a great job getting his teammates involved...look at all the assists he has.!
BTW- Congrats to IF on evidently winning the IRC!!!

There is a clearly marked map in the upstairs lobby of where the visitor's section is and it is by no means the same as the student section. No one forced you to sit in the very MIDDLE of the high school students where you were obviously not wanted. Do you sit in your school's student section?[/quote]

I was at the falls game and i heard some of the things that were said, i agree that their behavior was wrong, but then i remember when i was young.. i was doing the same thing, you don't realize it when you are that age, not saying that makes it right but I'm sure a lot of us did things when we were young, that if we seen kids doing those same things now, we would disapprove of.

Yes, we were all kids and did dumb stuff and I agree, to a point.
I was still ALWAYS respectful to adults, and had enough pride and self respect to not make a fool out of myself, my parents, my friends, my school, etc.
These kids were just plain selfish with their behavior.

I may be wrong but I'm just saying that they prolly don't realize how disrespectful they were even being, it was probably more of a heat of the moment thing.. not trying to take a side, but they are kids you know.

falls vs rapids
i agree that the kids should not have been disrespectful. we never did that, but to complain about the burbot being thrown on the ice, come on. it's our tradition. it sounds like the people of rapids can't handle the fact that they lost to class a school. you guys are not that good. get over it. you will not be going to state.

I don't think Rapids fans care that they lost to a single a school. It is just never fun to lose. Whether it's to Roseau or Sleepy Eye. And if Grand Rapids is just "not that good" and "will not be going to state" what does that tell you about your team? Remember that this game took 7:20 of extra time to determine a winner and was very evenly played.broncos2020 wrote:i agree that the kids should not have been disrespectful. we never did that, but to complain about the burbot being thrown on the ice, come on. it's our tradition. it sounds like the people of rapids can't handle the fact that they lost to class a school. you guys are not that good. get over it. you will not be going to state.
Give broncos2020 a break. He's only 6 yrs old. I'm guessing the 2020 is the year you graduate
As a Falls High grad I think you're acting childish. For starters, do you see the Sportsmanship banners hanging in the gym and/or arena. I was around when FHS received those and by no means did we act like the youth of today. I am ashamed by the comments on here. As for the burbot toss, I was also in the crowd when the very first one was tossed on the ice. The year was 1995 and it started at an RRCC game, not a Bronco game. So you talk about this great tradition, well its only 13 yrs old. But I guess that's probably been your whole life.

Not saying anything about what did or did not happen, but I graduated about 8 years ago and don't think kids act the same now as they did in area of the country. Respect has been kicked to the curb all over the country and it starts with the parents.RoundBaller wrote:Give broncos2020 a break. He's only 6 yrs old. Re: falls vs rapids
If you check the posts a little closer, you'll see it was written that the fish throwing, however stupid it is, was not offensive, nor were the sieve chants or even the you suck chants. It was the classless use of filthy language to 12 year old girls, around 7 year old boys, and to adults that are their parents age. Coupled with the throwing of garbage at GR children and parents alike. I would have to bet against a sportsmanship trophy or banner for this school in the near future. As for losing the game, certainly no one is happy with losing, whether it's to an A team or a AA school. No where did I read that Falls didn't deserve it, and I'm also sure I saw some congratulations on winning the IRC thrown in there. I for one even wished them luck in the playoffs and hope they don't lose to a Duluth team.broncos2020 wrote:i agree that the kids should not have been disrespectful. we never did that, but to complain about the burbot being thrown on the ice, come on. it's our tradition. it sounds like the people of rapids can't handle the fact that they lost to class a school. you guys are not that good. get over it. you will not be going to state.

Abolutely to question 1, and the complaining is only regarding the ridiculous, classless young citizens and their boorish behavior.Vapor XXXX wrote:Would all of you Grand Rapids fans still be this upset at the Falls fans if you would have won the game or is all this complaining just a reason to get back at the Falls for beating you?
