Scarlet - Where do you see New Prague fitting into the mix? Is that an oversight or do you have them as a 7 seed?scarlethockey33 wrote:My look at section 1a
Faribault - Early favorite, still a favorite to win the section, they need their goalie to get hot late to make them the easy #1 seed, seeded top 3 most definitely would be surprised if anything lower
Albert Lea - Interesting team, great coaching, upset on Faribault really put a shake on things but I still think they have something to prove in the section to show the section that the game vs. faribo wasn't just a fluke
Lourdes - An up and down team, I don't want to use the term enigma but they haven't played consistently, win over faribo definitely put them up there in the top 3-4
Wascea and Austin are in the bottom of the section, the section might not be that strong but their inability to keep pucks out of the net on any team proves they won't be able to contend with the competition.
Mankato East - As much as I love to bash talk the Cougars, they're a much better team than the 08-09 season. They have a good first line but after that, there isn't much to talk about. Their goaltending gets shaky, but I give Weihe credit with dealing with their problems on defense. They moved top liner Willaert to defense but they will much more than the top line and a goalie. I see the cougars grabbing the 6-7th seed
Mankato West - Tough start to the season, loss a couple games they should've won easily. I think they are definitely in the running for a 4th or 5th seed depending on how they end the season. Games vs. Lourdes and Albert Lea have become huge games for seeding. Scoring is starting to see some punch, goaltending is getting consistency, personally I think they are the a dark horse in the section 1a
Personally I never seen Red Wing play so I'm not going to rank it
Faribault, Lourdes and Albert Lea will contend with top 3
Red Wing will be looking for a possible 3-4 seed
With two losses to Mankato West, Mankato East will likely be a 6th seed
Bottom two will be Wascea and Austin, in that order.
Northfield vs. Mankato West Feb 13th will determine the 5th seed
Section 1A scores

Forgot about New Prague
New Prague is definitely in the mix of teams. Some inconsistent play early on, beating some decent teams then losing to some other teams they might've been able to beat. I think they're going to be able to catch their stride later in the season, after all filling holes like the lapics and adams had to take some time.
1. Faribault/Lourdes/Albert Lea
2. Lourdes/Faribault/Albert Lea
3. Albert Lea/Lourdes/Faribault
Matters on how the person who seeds the teams thinks of the losses Faribo took from Lourdes and Albert Lea and if that's enough justification to not put Faribault #1. I don't see Albert Lea taking the #1 seed, they seem more like a #3 at this point to me. Lourdes is slowly getting better every game, they play STA, Breck & TG in the last couple of games in their season, could be a benefit to play these tougher teams.
4. New Prague/Red Wing
5. Red Wing/New Prague
6. Northfield/New Prague/Mankato West
7. Mankato West/Northfield
New Prague is 1-1 against Red Wing, personally a win later in the season is more important than earlier in the season. I think Red Wing and New Prague split the #4 and #5
Northfield on the other hand has loss both times vs. Red Wing making them almost certainly below the Wingers. Game vs. New Prague could possibly stir that up, also game vs. Mankato West will most likely determine the 6th and 7th seeds. West has it's section schedule coming up vs. Albert Lea, Lourdes, Northfield. Winning any of those three would definitely stir this section up even more.
8. Mankato East
9. Wascea
10. Austin
The bottom three in that order are almost certain, you can lock them up tonight if you would like. Two losses to their cross town rival Mankato West. Games vs. Albert Lea and Century could mean something if won. Has the most scoring punch since their 04-05 season but isn't enough with just really one line.

I posted this the other day but it must have been lost when the website went down.Diesel wrote:FollowThePuck has St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson/LeCenter/Montgomery-Lonsdale in Section 2AA, but MSHSL website has them in 1A. What's the deal there? A drop in enrollment?
When they added Montgomery last year it moved them up to AA. They appealed last fall. Because they only had one player from Le Center, the league decided not to include Le Center's enrollment and moved them back to Single A. That is according to the St Peter Herald.
Not that it matters much. Here they'll be a 12 seed. in 2AA they'd be a 9 seed and play Kennedy.

They need to find them a home.

Mankato West - 3
Northfield - 0
empty net with about 7 seconds left in the game, west played well in their zone, fast paced game with both teams showing some breakout speed, mankato west will likely take over the 6th seed in my list.
they still have games against 2 of the top 3 in the section with lourdes and albert lea coming up. back to back infact on their schedule, this will definitely be a good measure for where west really belongs in this section.

West doesn't have any real stars other than Campbell, but they've been able to find some offense lately after strugggling to get goals most of the season. The coaches have them playing as a team, where everyone knows their role and what's expected of them. They just beat a team 6-2 in Albert Lea that is well coached and has been hot lately. West could knock off one of the top seeds, but I don't know if they have enough overall talent to run off 4 straight in the sections.goldy313 wrote:West is playing well at a good time, in the past 2 weeks they've managed to beat 2 teams Lourdes lost to. Geez, if they somehow knock off Lourdes tomorrow things will really get interesting.

Very interesting score tonight, 6-2?!Black Ice wrote:West doesn't have any real stars other than Campbell, but they've been able to find some offense lately after strugggling to get goals most of the season. Where does this shake up the seedings now? If west finds a way to beat Lourdes tomorrow night, You'd have to consider them as the favorite for the #4 seed I'd think?
This section is going to have one of the best section tournaments in the state this year, it may not be the highest talent level, but it is definitely one of the most competitive sections around.

Lourdes at Mankato West!
Telling game
West on the rise, Lourdes far better than earlier but troubles on the road. Should help tell if Lourdes is for real or if West could be the upset special in the Section.
Lourdes 4, West 3
