Red Wing should absolutely get the 5th seed and West the 6th seed based on the strength of schedule, the Wingers play in a tougher conference and have played a tougher schedule overall, West has only 3 decent wins against AL, Holy Family, and Northfield, their other wins were against Mankato East (twice), Austin (twice), Waseca, St. Peter, and Portage Canada, (Portage was basically a Bantam B team), so when you look and see that West and Red Wig have comparable records,, and then look at the teams Red Wing plays compared to West

I think you have it right except for 4 and 5. I agree with 6 and 7, but it wouldn't surprise me if those were switched.

I want to agree with Hockeydad's predictions. There is definately no way Mankato West should be seated higher than Red Wing. If you look at any common oponents, Mankato tied Fergus Falls and Red Wing beat them. Mankato lost to Prior Lake and Red Wing beat them twice. Red Wing could play Waseca, Austin, St. Peter, Mankato East, etc.... and probably would win those games and have an overall winning record, but Red Wing's coach chooses to play teams like Breck, Mahtomedi, Tartan, Hermantown, Totino Grace, South St. Paul as non conference games. I believe that the strength of the game schedules of some of the Section 1 teams should mean something, that is why Rochester Lourdes should be the #1 seed. The Rochester Lourdes schedule is much tougher than Faribault's.

Not really, there are five Big 9 schools in the sectoin and the Big 9 schools have a tendency to support their own at seeding time. Faribault had the most wins. Yes, Lourdes beat them, but they also lost to a couple teams that Faribault beat. You could make a legitimate argument for either of them.

Faribault over Lourdes for the section championship. More of Faribaults team played in the game against Lourdes last season, so experience will be in their favor.

I still don't understand how Lourdes gets seeded number two. I understand they lost to some teams that Faribault beat, but that was also at the begining of the season when they wern't playing that well. I still see Lourdes winning this section in a close game over over Faribault.

Lourdes should play this poorly more often.

Not sure what you are talking about with the poor Lourdes conference play????? They are not in a conference for hockey so not sure what people are talking about when they keep saying this?????????

In reading the post-bulletin today there is an article regarding the seeding of the 1A tournament. It states the coach from Faribault was the only one that put Lourdes lower than 2. Apparenly he put them down to #4. I am not a Lourdes fan by any means but what was he thinking or I should say What was he trying to accomplish. If these coaches can't be intelligent about the seedings then it should be done differently. Lourdes is ranked #8 in the state and they play a very hard schedule. I am not saying they should be ahead of Faribault but c'mon who else should be ahead of Lourdes in this section. He just fueled the fire for Lourdes (Bad move), this time of year you don't give motivation. I also think he screwed himself because I definitely would play New Prague over Albert Lea who they will play on Saturday. Nystrom will have those boys playing come Thursday and Saturday. Good luck Faribault I hope it backfires.

You throw out the high and low seedings so Faribault ranking Lourdes fourth should have been thrown out, you also don't seed yourself. I posted this earlier but Lourdes had a 1-2-1 record against Missota 1A teams including losses to the eventual #5 and #7 teams, personally I think the Missota is better than the Big Nine and that said Lourdes wasn't really that impressive over 1A Big Nine teams West and Albert Lea either with 1 goal wins plus a 1 goal win and a tie against Owatonna. I thought it was possible to seed Lourdes 4th behind all 3 Missota teams although not likely.

Criteria includes and can be used in no particular order:
Head to head -Lourdes
Conference standing -Faribault #1, Lourdes is independant
Common opponents - huge edge to Faribault
Section record - Faribault by a nose

If you take it as a 1 game snapshot Lourdes should be #1 but if you look at the season as a whole I think Faribault should be #1. Lourdes did play a tougher schedule but playing and losing those games doesn't help when you lose to Holy Family and Northfield - teams that Faribault beat and beat teams like New Prague and West with a substantially smaller victory margin than Faribault did. It probably came down to the fewest #2 and #3 seeds.

If this is what he actually did, I'm not sure what he is trying to accomplish... It does sound like fuel for the fire

When coaches seed the teams they rank them 1-what ever, not ranking their own team. You then throw out the highest and lowest ranking for each team. Total the points and the teams are ranked from lowest to highest in points.

Example, Roch Lourdes receives these rankings from the other coaches.
1, 2 , 1 , 2 , 4 , 3 , 1 , 1 , 2 , 2, 1 (throw out one of the lowest and the highest, a 1 and the 4) total would = 15....Pretty tough to manipulate the system
