Good for Edina if indeed they only have 1 A team........the best play on the best team, hence the A designation........can most associations match the Wayazatas, ep, etc type numbers? Nope.........so just maybe there is a need for at least 2 seperate levels if not more.......call it whatever you wish, ie 1A, 2A. This will pit the bigger schools against each other.....following the high school football levels all the way down to 8 man football state playoffs.............

GO EDINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe if the Mega associations ran two sets of A teams at the youth levels, they would retain more of their own kids long term instead of pushing talented kids who don't grow early or who aren't beautiful cone skaters towards BSM, Blake, Breck, Cretin, Hill and AHA.
I think this is especially true with Wayzata.
With their feeder programs; Edina, Wayzata and White Bear should be in the MSHSL State tournament every other year and win it at least once every ten. (Or in White Bear's case, win a championship bracket game).

Blind, I may be far away, but I think you are dead wrong on this one. No matter how many kids you have playing A Pee Wee there will be a good number of star players interested in playing Varsity for a private school as a 9th or 10th grader. That seems to be more of the issue than whether or not kids played PW A or B.

Most of these kids don't LEAVE for private schools - they attended them all along. Kids who start at private schools in Kindergarten aren't going to suddenly decide to play for the local high school team. If you look at some of the "mega" association rosters at Peewee and Bantam A, you'll find a lot of kids who have never attended public school within their association. At high school, they are now simply going to the school they have always attended.

Thank You O-town. It's certainly no fun for a child to be left out. Hopefully, all of the children will have fun this year and beyond.
EdinaRumors.....What was the outcome of the tryouts for your Grandson? Was the judging fair in your mind? Just curious on how the process went

It worked out well. They decided to take advantage of the new rule on player registration, enrolled him in a private school in a neighboring community where he went on to make the Pee Wee A team.

He's having a lot of fun doubling his friends circle and he's playing in an association with integrity. Should be a fun season for him.

Funny. I talked to the EHA president and he said that no pee wee aged player was waived out of the association. Do you want to retract you last post? You seem to be good with the editing.

So you don't live in Edina, go to school in Edina or play in Edina, but you seem to have a lot of opinions on an association that you that you don't belong to.

As opposed to what? An association without integrity? So the one complaining about the pre-tryout skate (which, by the way, was also done by USA Hockey to assist with the formation of the next Olympic team) is one that none of this applied to anyway.

Youth hockey in Edina is not for everyone. In a competitive sport it may even be moreso. Turns out youth hockey in Edina may not have been best for your grandson either. Both will survive. Hockey in Edina and your grandson, that is.

So the decision to attend a certain middle school (or junior high) was made for Pee Wee hockey?

No problem with that, just wanting to clarify.

As opposed to an association with a tainted process. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig

If you still haven't given your gripe about the tryout process in Edina for Pee Wees a rest it says a great deal about you. There is no conspiracy here. For every 10 skaters in the association there is only one spot on the A team. Winnowing down such large numbers involves cuts, judgment, hurt feelings, and a process that will be imperfect even when it is done as best you can.

The process for selecting our next Olympic team is 'tainted'? Whatever.

ER, there are people that feel this way in every youth hockey association. Usually the same people that never volunteer for board activities, coaching, non-scheduled tournament duties, fundraising and ect........

Every association has kids that should have made this team. or that team. When all is said and done, if we left the players to play and have fun, most issues would sort themselves out. I guess that is a pipe dream in todays world.

Glad to hear this player went on to make more friends, and play on the appropriate team. Hopefully the lessons learned along the way will benefit him down the road.

Stands: Good point. I saw a kid (or maybe his parents) pretty much run out of a program. Guess what? The kid is in a way better place! And they are happy to have him!

Actually closer to for every 12 skaters, there is one spot on the A, this year.

ER, I really liked your sense of humor with my "jab" at you at the beginning. Thanks for the yucks. When all said and done, really not worth all of the comments on the perceived unfairness. The coach will get 13 of the 15 kids right. The other two are bubble players that you can always second guess the decision. In the long run, peewees, doesn't make much of a difference.

good luck to your grandson.

The sad thing is that his Peewee A team is probably worse than Edina's B1 teams

I think it's sadder that they had him change schools for Peewee hockey.

Yea the team gets picked in May. The kids could pick the team themselves in August, who needs tryouts. The kids know where they stand. As for the bubble two or three, all of us might have different kids if we are the coach but the team won't look much different. WOW worried about pee wee A when most of them won't make varsity?
