You are giving credit to Maturi for bringing Guentzel back...Maturi shouldnt get credit for anything but putting together a great rowing building that cause millions and millions of dollars. Wasted money!
Lucia finally chose to recruit the correct people. Look how good this team is without Barriball, Ness, and Schroeder. Its amazing how good a team is when their talent also works hard - Hansen, Bjugstad, Rau, Condon, Haula, Matson, etc...Rumor has it Barriball and Schroeder were cancer to that program.

stop being a gopher fan, simple as that. Crazy second half to the game. Gophers looked unstoppable, they looked like a one seed, and then collapse!!
One of the biggest collapses I have seen in person. Wow! Fortunately, the NCAA's means more than this tourney or the McNaughton. So, we will see what happens. It would be fun to see them play at the X again.

Schroeder was a cancer. No doubt. Worst attitude ever. Thank God he left early. Not so sure about Bariball.Tigers33 wrote:You are giving credit to Maturi for bringing Guentzel back...Maturi shouldnt get credit for anything but putting together a great rowing building that cause millions and millions of dollars. I can't even believe that game. What a joke. What seed you think they will end up with in the NCAA's?Tigers33 wrote:stop being a gopher fan, simple as that. Crazy second half to the game. Gophers looked unstoppable, they looked like a one seed, and then collapse!!

Patterson looks tired. He hasn't played as well the past three or four weeks. Seems to be fighting the puck and leaving a lot more rebounds than he did earlier in the year.
Did the Don over play him this year?
I don't see the Gophers having much success in the NCAA's without strong goaltending from Patterson.

Ok
Wrong side of puck on Dzone coverage...
BC is playing neutral zone trap, need to get behind them, or dump and gain possesion... Put as many pucks on net as possible and every other man go for the net... In close lift puck to upper corner... Yes, that means you Condon & Mattson!
Recipe for success in periods two & three...

^^^this I completly agree with you. Patterson has played awful tonight. You might say "he got beat with good shots" that is true, but if you look at his posistioning and rebound control tonight they have been terrible.BodyShots wrote:Patterson looks tired. Wow...
I will leave you with some thoughts...
I agree with Bodyshots - Patterson looked tired for four weeks... Now we only have Wilcox coming in, good kid, only one man... Need options...
Bjugstad... Who...? Where did he go for the last 3 weeks...?
Need better D play coverage... Our kids were outmatched in Dzone...
We need better players!!!!!!!!! Why were the Gophers not in the NCAA for so long...

Lucia needs to do a better job. We live in the best hockey state in the country. We get the Mr MN kids, how bout also getting the kids that are going to be the best kids two years down the road...

Sorry. I am disappointed. Sub par performance for such a big game...
That defensive cre left patterson out to dry. Three of the first four goals were two on one slam dunks. How do you blame the goalie? The 5th goal was a slam dunk. The 6th goal was a deflection by our own defenseman. The only goal that could possibly go on Patterson was a snipe on the power play that he got beat over the shoulder, probably went down to early.
He was the mvp of the final five. Get a clue if you are going to blame him for this game.
This is why the gophers loss. Our best line was Condon, Matson, and Boyd. Not going to beat BC when thats the case.
Where was Bjugstad?
Did Haula play tonight?
Schmitt looked like a free agent, undrafted sophmore defenseman.
Parenteau was over his head.
Marshall looked like a figure skater at times.
Budish and Rau, where were ya?
I will give credit to Warning, he looked like he had a good game. Hansen played to much on emotions.
After tonight, not sure anyone will be making the jump early to the pro level.

This team was picked 6th preseason in the WCHA. The team only loses Hansen, Matson, and Patterson that really matter. That is if all comes back.
I want to leave everyone with a question...We are the state of hockey, correct?
Who do you think tends to have a better college career? The kid that played AAA and juniors, or the kid coming out of 25 game high school schedule. I hate to say it, but it might be time to stop taking the kids right out of high school. Is it time to tell a kid like Marshall that we wont take you until you played at least one full season in the juniors?
Alt, Schmitt, Marshall, Holl, Rau, Budish, Bjugstad all young and I dont believe they played a full season in the juniors.

My username is puckstopper,I'm a goalie, it takes a lot for me to say what I did about Patterson. He was great for most of the season, but I think BodyShots is right and he wasn't rested enough, therefore he was not able to play at the level he can. Some of the goals looked like the D's fault, but they most likely were a result of his poor posistioning. The team did under perform as a whole, so you can't only blame Patterson, but it really would have helped if Patterson could've made some more big saves.

Schmidt (Fargo) and Marshall (Omaha) played full years in the USHL prior to the U. The rest did not.Tigers33 wrote:This team was picked 6th preseason in the WCHA. The team only loses Hansen, Matson, and Patterson that really matter. That is if all comes back.

But I think you are reaching a bit for reasons here. Guys like Rau and Bjugstad played very well this year. Budish had a nice rebound season given the prior injuries he suffered. Schmidt had a great season. Alt was very good. Marshall had his ups and downs but most freshman D go through that.
The only guy that I really believe should not have come straight from HS is Holl but he basically had to when we lost Ness during the summer. He was going to play USHL prior to that.
They didn't lose tonight because of where the players played before college. They lost to a better team tonight. A talented team with championship experience and they are on a roll.

RE: Bjugstad.
I don't think Bjugstad has been playing 100%. Back before WJC when he was out of Team USA's lineup before the tourney, he had a shoulder issue. I was told at the time it would linger for the rest of the year. He could play through it but it could be painful.
It probably didn't help matters that he got the head shot vs. UNO late in the regular season either.

I thought Patterson did look slow, but the real problem was the defense, which was simply wretched at times. The Gophers had their chances in the first and couldn't cash in; if they solve Milner earlier, who knows how this one turns out. But BC is the sort of team that isn't going to lose once they grab the lead. They are a well-oiled machine, and unless Ferris can pull out a miracle, they will roll on Saturday.
From a non-Gopher fan...the program made some nice strides this year, but "defense wins championships" is a cliche for a reason, and they will need to tighten up on the blue line to have a shot next year, no matter how much forward talent comes back.

Exactly. I thought going in that for the Gophers to win:Gopher Blog wrote:They didn't lose tonight because of where the players played before college. They lost to a better team tonight. A talented team with championship experience and they are on a roll.
a) Patterson would have to be at his best
b) Their special teams would have to play well, and
c) They would need to get some bounces
None of these things happened, and combined with all the defensive miscues the score became lopsided. They actually had more good scoring chances than I thought they would get, but with one exception they weren't able to bury them. And on most nights at least one of those shots from the point would get through or deflect in...
But mostly as you say it was a case of the more skilled and experienced team finding ways to score more goals. Hopefully the younger guys will learn from the experience and can get back there next year for another shot.
Holl came in the summer before Ness' last season so I doubt the brought him based on the idea Ness would leave after that season. Either way, he would have been better off playing 60-70 games as a top d at Omaha than a 5,6, or 7 guy at the U.The only guy that I really believe should not have come straight from HS is Holl but he basically had to when we lost Ness during the summer. The Goph's had a good season, well overachieving from pre-season predictions. And they have most of their talent coming back and a LOT coming in. I'm excited for next season.
Kudo's to Boston College. That team is playing VERY good hockey. It would have taken a near perfect outing to beat them, by the whole team.
We'll be back!!!!!
