The Bruce Plante Show, 2013 Edition
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
All you PC jokers trying to wax eloquent about how Plante sets a bad example for the boys blah blah, or he is classless for going aftr the ref, blah blah. Get a clue. These boys aren't some frail bunch of girl scouts you have to worry about. Hockey emotions run high, hell there was a Ranger Ottawa game not too long ago when Tortorella almost got into a fight with the other coach. News flash: It's gonna get worse! That's the way hockey is. Intense and in your face sometimes. Get a clue or just shut up.
The Hermantown fans were booing after remembering watching the STA cadets during the 2012 final getting ahold of the Hermantown mascot's hawk head piece and batting and bopping it around as if it were a beach ball instead of respectfully giving it back. What a classless move that was.Seriously? The whole St Thomas side was clapping for the Hermantown All-Tournament Team players as well as Benson when he got the Herb Brooks award. The whole Hermantown side was booing, along with very little clapping, as the St Thomas players were announced.
How are these things simply overlooked?
Don't know but everyone of those cadets deserved to have all that crap pulled off their uniforms and forced to earn it all over again. Where were their superiors - joining in?deacon wrote:Stealing the mascot head is one of the most classic moves ever. How in the world did they get it in the first place?

Classic or classless? I think you have your words confused. It seems to me that a lot of people on here have a lot of things mixed up when it comes to St. Thomas Academy, or at least put their blinders on. I don't understand how anybody could ever call coach Plante a whiner, or classless. He is in fact a winner and classy. A straight up class act if you really know him. So many people on here that seem to think they know everything take one or two things they here from a presser without hearing the two minutes before/after that were being talked about. That is called being taken out of context. There are so many things I have heard people rip Bruce about that I just laugh because they of course know everything, and I had actually heard everything he was talking about. Not just the little clip that someone jumps on and is now a Bruce Plante expert. I really think there is probably a lot of jealousy coming from the STA side. I don't know if it's the fact that they are realizing that so many valid points have been made regarding what has been said of them drawing from all over the metro and beyond to form an all-star team and trophy hunt (and Bruce will be the first to tell you he is not a fan of that). So that makes him classless in their eyes? I don't know, but its kind of funny that anyone anti Hermantown thinks Bruce is just this psychotic ref hater who complains and has no class. Good for you, you go ahead and think that! I'm just telling you though, its simply not true.deacon wrote:Stealing the mascot head is one of the most classic moves ever. I got no hate for Plante, its tough to use that word when he's never beaten STAA.
I just think its funny because he doesn't say anything ground breaking, but everyone acts like the guy invented the wheel. People ride Plante hard; he puts up a "aww shucks I'm just tryin' to coach some ol' time hockey" exterior and people eat it up. He's the metaphorical preacher speaking to the congregation, and everything he says is met with a 'Hallelujah' from the gullible masses.
Don't get me wrong he's a great coach, one of better ones in the high school ranks. But his self righteous attitude and sanctimonious schtick is just so cliche and people just gobble him. If there is one thing he's not drowning in its subtlety, but then again if he didn't spell it out half his fan club probably couldn't figure out what he was saying to get riled up in the first place.
I get why it plays in Minnesota, I do. The state is predictable for the same reason people listen to chums like Reusse etc. If you are willing to stir the pot and play the simpleton populist schtick half the state will hinge on your every word. He's a relic in a way from the romantic times of years gone by in hockey, a time that is unfortunately long gone. It's an easy concept to fall in love with, and he stirs up that up whenever and however he can to advance his goals.
I don't believe he respects the Vannellis for a second. Not a single person in this world has respect for people who they think earned their success through "illegitimate" means. But coming out and calling the Vannellis cheaters would just make him look like the bitter guy he is. Instead of keeping his nose down and working to do something about it the next time he grabs the nearest microphone for the next soundbite.
He's furious STAA beat Hermantown 3 years in a row, let's call it how it is. People have and will continue to overlook his shortcomings because they just can't enough of the Bruce Plante show. The guy has shortcomings but no one seems to want to admit that, it's all perpetual praise and adoration.
I'll hang up and listen after this one.
