Yeah AP your right on the public schools, they are bleeding us in taxes because of poor spending and accountability...But the 1/2 the education thing? that comes down mostly to what the student takes out of it. (the old lead a horse to water deal).
I have a son in a Luthern College and he would tell you that the professors will not let you fail or do poorly, and it truly is a more personalized education...and I'm sure that Religious/Private HS is no different.
And another thing AP I've made myself clear that freedom of choice trumps fair play in the public/private argument.
Because the end result is it really didn't matter, 2 little public northern teams came in and stoled the show.
I was using a bit of sarcasim in the (they wanted to build public schools comment)
CNT - agree you can get a lot out of a public education if you put the
effort into it.
Ap - we have some common ground I believed the OE /transfer policy should be about public schools only. My belief always was that private schools are just that, private businesses and required the opportunity to sell to all.
I do think if you want to a better educational system you make all the schools competitive in attracting students by attaching the tax dollars to the student and where they choose to go, all the money follows them (a voucher system only provides a portion of this funding).
but note that I don't define private as solely Catholic - isn't Providence Academy deserving of the same consideration given Catholic schools?
I don't think PB views it this way based on his selected use of catholic school term - if not that is bigotry
AngusYoung wrote:BIAFP - you are correct again. Just got off the phone with Bill "Hannibal" Lechner and he directed me to the Pioneer website(nice by the way and includes rosters from all the previous Pioneer teams, which includes our favorite poster, Mr. Pierre). That official Hill-Murray website clearly states, "20 State Tournament appearances" and "2 State Titles".
Well Ankles, directly from your favorite alma mater's official records, your rantings are unsubstantiated yet again. Not even you can argue with that.
Not wanting to show up po' witto Roseau, Ankles Pierre was only counting the Pioneers' State Tournament appearances since 1965.
Much of team's essence is about the personal development and triumphs of its student-athletes, coaches, and supporters, so while raw numbers tell only part of the story, those stats alone are impressive:
34 state tournament appearances,
4 state championships,
11 times runner-up in a state tournament, and an all-time winning percentage of over .770....
That's 15 State Championship Games in
34 State Tournaments for the Pioneers since 1961!
If Ankles Pierre were still a youth hockey player, AP would want to go to Hill-Murray!

The reason I use the term "Catholic schools" when I am talking about Catholic schools is because I want people to know I am talking about Catholic schools.
Its much the same reason why when a person wants to refer to an apple, he calls it an apple.
The other reason is that in Class AA hockey, the teams that people whine about are Catholic schools, only. I dont think there are any other kinds of non public schools in AA.
Packer, though it's only the Catholics standing up to them and beating them, the public school crowd will use any other descriptions of us in an attempt to hide their anti-Catholic bigotry, much like that XXXL Chicken who hid from AP during Hill's Section Final triumph over WBL!
Change a name and they can hide/do the unthinkable... taxes become investments... terrorists become freedom fighters... human beings become fetuses....
Some say they never would have crucified Jesus if He had not drawn such a large fan following... Do you think Catholics should stop winning so many games or post-season honors; so that, the bigots might stop trying to kill our schools/hockey programs?
Change a name and they can hide/do the unthinkable... taxes become investments (they can be) - terrorists become freedom fighters (some are (were))
human beings become fetuses... (Something we stand together on, my fiend and I.)
Some say they never would have crucified Jesus if He had not drawn such a large fan following... (His sacrifice was pre-ordained. The following was a result of the teachings He did. The following did not create the death, just made the story easier to remain alive.)
PS to AP,
It is not Catholics that stand up for the rights of others.
It is the followers of Christ. The believers in the God. The admirers of the Man.
Of course, only Ankles Pierre already knows the TRUE answers to the questions he poses. Ankles Pierre also knew Elliott would respond the way he did. Moreover, Ankles Pierre knows how Packerboy will respond even before PB himself knows.
His death on the cross may have been preordained in the sense that God is all-knowing and some prophets foretold of it, but Jesus, both God and man, had free will just as those who killed Him had their own free will!
Of course He would not cower in fear, and neither will Catholic schools, their hockey programs, nor their fans!
Time to lock up civil speech which disagrees with BIAFP!
Here is something to really anger BIAFP:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I hate to break it to you AP but that Amendment doesn't hold water on this board

Seems to me it does as it's still going!
Hey smart-ass, check the second thread the Cafe page titled, "Hockey Cafe Forum Rules and Statement of Purpose" and even you can see that many posts have viololated the religion aspect. If you would like the button pushed, BIAFP or myself would be glad to report the posts in question to the admin and where it goes from there is up to them. However, if you check the above thread, it clearly states what what direction this is seeming to go.
Well Angus I suppose they could nuke every topic based on that... it leaves it open for a bit of interpretation and flexibility for the moderators.
IMO it's more driven so that you don't have people attacking each others religion, where as this thread is more around a few people defending their's in a fun and witty way.
I also think if you go back to the beginning even Lee said it was one of the best topics ever. ( maybe that has changed IDK?)
I don't understand why you read a topic you dislike so much...and comment to lock it up?? Simply don't read it.
How many reports against this thread have been made? must not be to many as it has been allowed to continue.
Yeah sometimes it goes to the fringe, but for crying out loud start a thread you like and be happy in it.
The Lenten season seems to bring out the best in all of us.
It offers us an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns, to pray and maybe to think about what we have done or failed to do.
Its just so great to see so many posters who are so involved in the Lenten experince as illustarted by their views on our kids playing high school hockey and other sports.
Its great to see so many folks coming around to the point of view that whether it be small northern, large suburban , Catholic, private or what ever, its all kids playing for thier school and thats what its all about.
Just terrific. I was especially delighted to see that when a young man from CDH was named Mr Hockey, it was so embraced by all. In fact one poster even offered the kind opinion that it was daddy's money that won the award.
How nice.
The first amendment is applied very liberally to this board BIAFP, IF you (someone) want to make some idiotic bigotted slur against a kid who just won an award.

Listen up you little jerk.....Don't put words in my mouth. If you read the thread you just mentioned it was PastRapidsfan that said it was daddy's money. I am not an idiot nor a bigot and IF you know what is good for you, you won't call me either again
Can't Never Tried wrote:No name calling now... read the rules!
PB they're just trying to get it locked in there own way.
Or maybe "their" own way. CNT - I guess if the rules are out the window, name calling and all else is fair game which further proves the point that going down the religion road opens up the proverbial can of worms as anybody logical can see. So it would appear that if you can invoke the name of God, Jesus, Catholicsim and the like, I would have the "freedom" to call you a doorknob, right?
