Because the ref helped just a little against east with 37 seconds left.

minnetonka benilde debacle

Post by UNDhockeyfan »

If anyone was at the Minnetonka Benilde play off game last night you are likely as awestruck as I am. Minnetonka's Gardiner fired a shot at the end of the second period that went in hard and came out of the rail just as hard. No one on the ice seemed to realize he scored. I was RIGHT THERE and clearly saw it as did everyone around me who had a great view of it. It wasn't counted nor even talked about.
It would have made the game 3-0 and made Benilde's comeback 1 short.
Wow, what a way to lose. Officiating was not so hot on several occasions but this was the most consequential mistake I have seen in a long time.

By the way, I am not a Skipers fan or a fan of BSM, just a hockey fan who hates to see injustice. This was as bad as it gets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes, Gardiner (#19) is the real deal!

Will this phantom goal go down like the Aaron Broten one against MSU when he was a Gopher?

minnetonka benilde

Post by UNDhockeyfan »

I am telling you, Gardiner's shot was so hard the majority of people watching the game as well as everyone on the ice did not noticed he scored. If someone has a tape of it look at it. It was clear to those that had the angle. It went in on the goalies right side. on the ice and hit the flat spot of the rail and came straight back out. I was sitting in the Benilde section at the dot on the side it went in on. Nearly all of us saw it and a few even felk to be fair someone should run down and tell someone. No one did, we all felt surely someone will pick it up. No, they skated away as the period ended as if nothing happened. Didn't realize it would wind up being the goal that didn't win the game.

STRANGE!

Well since BSM is a Catholic institution, I feel that Coach Pauley should inform Minnetonka and the MSHSL of the mistake and forfeit their spot in the state tourney.

I mean seriously, WWJD?????

Good luck with that prediction, not only will they have to not be placed on Roseau's side of the bracket, they would also have to beat the 2 and 3 seeds (Edina played CEC three weeks ago and slaughtered them).

Two years ago Roseau crushed Grand Rapids 5-1 in the last game of the regular season and then Grand Rapids beat them a couple weeks later 7-4 in the state semi-finals. YES: It Can Happen

I was at the game, I was actually sitting about 10 rows behind the Benilde goal. The shot you're talking about definitely did NOT go in the net. It went clean of the post. I really wanted to see Tonka at state but that play didn't lose the game for them, their play in the 3rd and overtime lost the game for them.

Boblee, that was the quarterfinal game where they beat Roseau before beating Hill-Murray in the semis. Just a simple slip of the fingers, I'm sure.

Sure, it helped. Know what really helped? East giving up four goals in the second period.

Time to get over it. I did.

I don't think Hemmingway played that poorly. He let the 2nd goal get by which I thought was one he should have stopped. Other than that, the LF goals were almost impossible to cover. Three quick passes near the net and he was hung out to dry a couple times. Nothing he could have done. If Alex could have kept up the game they were playing the 1st 7-8 minutes of the game, they could have won this game, but it would be tough for them to maintain that intensity.

Congrats on a good season Alex.

Shots were in the range of LF-40 to Alex-32

Powerplays = LF 0-2 Alex 1-2

From what i have heard Hemmingway did not play well
Hemmingway didnt play a good game at all, but still made some pretty saves!

Blake-5 (en)

Breck-2

this game started off flat in the first, but Blake came roaring out in the second and got two quick ones. I don't really know the scoring for blake aside from #16 got the fourth goal and Birkholz got the empty netter. Morin had both for Breck. Russell looked shaky. I also thought the cheering was good from both sides...my favorite was "If you can't get into Breck go to Blake clap clap" I got a kick outta that one. Breck has a great future with only 1 senior graduating this year.

Shots were LF - 37 Alex - 30. Three great goals with no chance for Hemingway, one very nice tip for Waytashek(??) to cap the hat trick and one goal that got away from Hemingway on a skate save.

Little Falls was the better team tonight and won the battles in front of the net and many of the races to the puck. Top line for Flyers had all the good goals. The Hanowski Bros. were in on all all but the tip in by Waytashek to complete his hat trick. Don't think Hemingway played bad, just didn't get much defensive support in front of the net with the Flyers crashing.
