That's very well stated Goldy. Childress has no wiggle room as far as his scheme goes. No matter if it fails, or if he doesn't have the personnel, he refuses to adjust to his surroundings. He went out and got Jackson, Hicks, Hutchinson, Richardson, Taylor, I would hope he could now put them in a spot where they can thrive.

I guess the question now turns to who they will target in free agency and the draft? I've heard that Childress doesn't believe in drafting a WR in the 1st round, which would lead me to believe he wouldn't want to spend big on a FA WR either, although the crop is thin regardless. Considering the state of the team, I'd say that has to be a top priority, although plenty of holes have to be filled.

Is that because of TO? Or because Philly thrived w/o really having a "top" WR? We need a true #1, no doubt about it. TTaylor is a great #3 and can fill as a #2, but he needs someone to take the attention away from him. We have so many holes to fill, is it worth keeping our spot in the Top 10 or do we trade down?

I'm not sure, I would guess it was the fact that Philly generally had mediocre receiving and were succesful with it before TO. Either way, Childress will never reveal his thought process.EREmpireStrikesBack wrote:Is that because of TO? Or because Philly thrived w/o really having a "top" WR? I would trade down if we could get picks and build up more depth, or if we got a player who could impact us right away. Otherwise, I would grab best player available, which in this draft is likely to be a tackle considering there are 4 elite prospects out there.

This the last time I will mention this, but how does a guy of Maroney's ability not get noticed by the team that shares the stadium with his Univerisity.
I have the luxury of hindsight here, but if it were my job/career to evaluate college talent for my franchise, I wouldn't have missed on this one. During the Vikes/Pats debacle they showed one of Maroney's runs vs. Wisconsin from his last year with the Gophs. I bet New England saw that one run and said he's ours, whether we need a running back or not, we're taking him because he is special.
Maybe the Vikes could bring in Gary Russell as an undrafted free agent. You don't need grades to play in the NFL.

I actually thought about that after my post.
I guess I wasn't sure what he meant. The Wild Card Round can sometimes be construde as the 1st round, but the divisional round is often what constitutes it. Either way, he got an answer. I guess I figured maybe you had repressed enough Vikes memories that the '05 playoffs were a mere oversight, but you caught me.

I don't know if Iraq has better leadership than the Vikes, but for a country divided by centuries of ethic and tribal rivalries and for a country on the verge of civil war, Iraq appears to be more unified under whatever leadership they do have than the Vikes.

I wasn't around for the Les Steckel era, but I can't imagine that a team in his era ever quit on their coach quite like this team has done this year. Yesterday's performance was embarrasing, and it was clear the team had their eyes fixated on the offseason rather than going out with a solid performance to build on for next year.
Maybe SC 97 and I suppose the 4-2 start made the difference. But there are similarities.
1. Talk tough guy takes over
2. Team doesnt respond
3. Team gets progressively worse as year goes on
4. Coach seems oblivious to #3 and doesnt care about #2
5. Season ends in disastar and franchise is at the lowest point in years.

I'm still baffled at the "discipline" that Childress is known for/preaches. One of the top teams in penalties, isn't discipline supposed to fix that?
Also, Travis Taylor just got arrested so off the field stuff isn't fixed either. This offseason will be interesting, will we blow the #7 pick again?
