Good call on this. I got it wrong from Strib. that's what I get for doing scores so late! THANKS! I've updated and will re-run the rankings now with this and other score updates...

I saw the 2nd period of the EP/EV game. Or most of it anyway. EP was up 1-0 entering the 2nd, and when I left were winning 4-1 with a couple minutes left in 2nd. Lots of PK for EP, and I was impressed with EV hanging with them. At one point it was 2-1 but EP scored 2 quick goals after a PP goal by EV to regain a comfortable margin. I'm told the final was 5-1 EP.

EP/EV game

Right now, EV is only slightly above .500. EP is impressive, but I suspect they will lose a game or two this year.

ghs, I saw the box score in the paper this morning that Henry Sibley managed 25 shots against your goalie in the 3rd period last night, but did not score. She must have played extremely well!

Some things about our game last night:

1) Sibley was missing 3 of their best D/players by the 2nd period - and two were out from the start of the game.

2) My team played 1 period last night - the 2nd - and looked atrocious the other 2 (1st & 3rd). We didn't deserve to win that game as a team, and I told the kids this. They also were told that they won't always be so lucky, and that Hill-Murray will likely take it to them on Tue if they play like that again, and it would be ugly. I hope for much better on Tue. It's so simple, but you have to come to play 3 periods - and also from the start of the game right away. We started too slow, and while things got better in 1st it still was a horrible period for us. Even in the 2nd we hurt ourselves by taking 4 penalties... although we did play better. The 3rd was the worst period of hockey I've seen in a long time - and while we took 3 more penalties and had to kill 5v3 that's still no excuse for 25 shots in a period. We allowed as many shots in that period as we had in nearly every complete game the first 7 games of the season!

3) Sibley has a much deeper and more solid team than most realize. Last night proved this to me - although I knew it coming in.

4) Mel Gerten, our goalie, is one of the top Sr Goalies in the state. If anyone doubts this, come watch. We don't win last night without her performance. 3-2 lead going into the 3rd, and she stops more shots in that period, including many on PK, than she had faced in the prior 2 periods combined. 25 of 25 in the 3rd. She's my "Player-of-the-Week" nomination this week, that's for certain. the question is what value will the papers place on such stellar goaltending... Like D, G's can be often overlooked for hge scoring outbursts sometimes...

BSM had an exhibition game last night against Ursuline College/The Pine School, a private girls prep school out of Chatham, Ontario. I understand they are down here to play 4 teams in and around the Twin Cities. This team was much weaker than you'd expect out of Canada, and BSM won easily 8-2. The best player on their team was their goalie, as without her the score would have been much more lopsided than it was. Despite giving up the 8 goals, she easily deserved to be awarded the No. 1 star of the game.

Did BSM have to count this as a JV game? That's what we had to do when we played SSM U16 on Tue as that was what the MSHSL specified. I believe the SSM Prep is considered the V by MSHSL standards and U16 the JV.

I was told that they had to count this as a normal non-conference varsity game (there was no JV game). Some were lamenting the fact that they didn't use the opportunity to schedule a tough Minnesota non-conference opponent instead.

Breck 6, Blades 1 EN - I saw this game, and Blades goalie MacRostie continues to impress me even though that may sound odd based on the score. She's very solid. Breck is now 11-0 I believe?

Benilde-St. Margaret's 10, Spring Lake Park 3. SLP was 6-1 coming into this matchup, and they gave BSM all they wanted for the first half of the game. BSM is starting to play better team hockey, and when they move the puck they have lots of offensive firepower.
