Any Gopher fan that says they wouldn't want him is lying to himself. But there are a lot of defensive breakdowns in his game.
As long as he's staying offensive & aggressive, he is very good and you can take the good with the bad because the good outweighs it. But there are times he isn't as aggressive and is more passive & defensive. If he's that way, the Sioux aren't getting the player their fans think they are.
I do think he'll translate well because Hakstol isn't a dummy.....he'll put him with a defensive minded guy and allow him to take chances. But a defensive defenseman that has the total package? He doesn't have it, and I've seen him play A LOT more than about 95% of everyone here has over the past 3 years.

I'm sure I haven't watched him as much as you. But it does seem to me he has improved this year. Of late I feel he has been making some more impressive defensive plays. Obviously, his skating and puck-handling are top-notch. Where I feel he has had struggles is decision-making with the puck (coughing it up right in front of his own net in the 3rd against Burnsville unfortunately wasn't terribly uncharacteristic). Still, I think he has gotten better about deciding when to take his shots taking it up ice (which he did superbly today). Maybe the times he has been more passive is part of him trying to learn when to take chances and when not to.
Like you are saying, you take him for what he is. A player with a nice set of skills and who is learning to play smarter. I think he is quite capable defensively. And though he'll never be Mike Crowley when it comes to setting guys up, if today is any indication he is learning how to use his skills to be quite effective and dangerous when the opportunity is there.
Hes going to be just fine at UND. Like was said before they will pair him with a big blueliner and allow him to be more into the play. Plus you look at a guy like Chay Genoway is there now and I would say he would be alot like him.
DadsMoney wrote:I disagree with the trend of the game being close in the end. I agree that it will be close, but the second half of the game will be Edina's. I have been watching Edina very closely this season. They have not only gotten better since the Holiday Classic; they are a completely different team. This change has all revolved around Budish emerging as one of the top players in state over the second half of the season.
In the first half of the season, the top unit felt a lot of pressure, feeling as though they had to carry the load. However, since Budish has turned it on, it has relieved much of this pressure and allowed the top line to be more defensive and conserve a lot more energy. The bottom line of Edina's evolution this year is that they are a much stronger team as the game wears on.
One thing that has also improved is their team defense, with the speed of their forwards, the defense rarely faces an odd man rush, and Cashetta will seldom face a clean shot. Edina is the real deal this season, I don't see Grand Rapids scoring more than one goal.
Prediction:
Edina 4
GR 1
This is what I'm talking about.
I'm sorry Mr. Lee, but I don't see what is so egregious about these comments.
This is about the sort of game I expected. Cloquet played decently, much better than the first meeting, but succumbed as the game went on. It was a fun ride for Cloquet, but now it's off to Mariucci. There were only so many upsets in the tank.
As for Gleason, he's a very, very impressive player. He makes a few silly mistakes deep in his own zone, but more than makes up for it with some amazing plays. I was amazed that he caught up with Burnsville's Perisic late in the 2AA title game on what looked like a sure breakaway...that was a game-saver. He has a few things to learn, such as not to give opposing fans obscene gestures from the penalty box as he did against Duluth East, but he is a spectacular talent.
With Benilde's win today, I'll be an Edina fan for the second night in a row tomorrow.
