All said this is looking like a one horse race, East.
GR has done enough to get the 2 seed despite poor section record.
ER has gone downhill even though all their losses are to highly ranked teams. They are about the same as GR.
CEC, FL, SF, all jockeying to avoid East in the semis.
Question remains how the coaches see it, Does Randolph have enough influence with the northern teams to align the seedings his way? Each coach will make cases but where do the alliances exist?

6PM tomorrow at Tobies in Hinckley. @grhshockey on twitter will probably be the first to release the seeds.

I think most agree on where logically the teams should be seeded, but it will be interesting what the coaches come up with. Keep in mind the coaches rank the other teams 1-8, they can't vote for their own team.

But that GR team is pretty easy to upset though. 8)
Forest Lake is probably 1-8 all time in the quarterfinals vs. GR. They also beat Greenway as a 7 seed when they had Guyer and Sertich. FL seems to make an appearance at the semifinals every 3-4 years. I like FL's chances if they play ER, Rapids won't take them lightly this time around.

I'm not sure East really stands to gain by trying to rig the seeding at all. Unless they really take the section record seriously and drop Grand Rapids into the 4-5 range, which could make for a more difficult semi. East, GR, and ER have been a bit ahead of the rest of the field for most of the season.

Beyond that, CEC, FL, and Andover all played reasonably well against East and were within striking distance for most of those games. Maybe FL would be a slightly more appealing opponent since they don't have Chase Perry or the rivalry factor in East-CEC, but it wouldn't be much, and the Rangers would have to beat one of those other two to get to a semifinal anyway. Likewise, trying to get St. Francis an unexpectedly high seed wouldn't do East much good, as St. Francis would probably then lose in the quarterfinals.

My point is, I don't think East can really control or care about who they play in the semifinal. They'll have to play a decent team no matter what.

Also, GR did beat two Metro-area AA teams in indoor games this season: Elk River and White Bear Lake. Both are in most, if not all, rankings' top 20s.

Let's hope that logic prevails...
I wonder where ER is at? Seem to have peaked around Christmas, played several top teams close but seem to have regressed, see 9-1 to BSM, 9-3 to Blaine. Seem to take care of teams like MG, Andover ect. but not exactly peaking?

The seeding is interesting every year and there always seems to be a lot of back and forth, usually by the teams who don't want certain match ups. In the end it seems the coaches get it sorted out pretty fairly and I trust the process. The bottom line is that there will be an upset or two for anyone who doesn't show up with their head screwed on right. Happens every year and it can bite any team who thinks they are gonna just mail it it.

Out of curiosity I checked last year's 7AA thread and the official seeds were posted at 7:23 pm.

That's how I see it also. Interestingly, PageStat has rankings as:

1. East
2. GR
3. Cloquet
4. ER
5. Andover
rest

Maybe Esse will bring a printout of PageStat for arguments sake to the meeting tonight.

I would think Forest Lake would want this as well, they would have a short travel distance to Elk River, plus the Elks haven't been playing well lately.

Official:

1. Duluth East
2. Grand Rapids
3. Elk River
4. Cloquet
5. Forest Lake
6. Andover
7. St. Francis
8. STMA
9. Cambridge

If anyone has a beef here, it's Andover; apparently the coaches decided that win over Cloquet wasn't enough to overcome an otherwise mediocre season.

Only sure bet in the quarterfinals is East. There could be plenty of "upsets" in the quarters.

That is oh so delicious! Cloquet has a home game against a team they beat 7-1 in order to face East in the semi-finals. Rapids gets a rematch with St. Franny and plays the winner of Elk River/Andover. My goodness I could not possibly be more happy right now. :D

Excited to watch the STMA vs. GR game. I'm thinking GR will choke again. East vs. ER in the final!

Maybe, maybe not. The score from the first meeting was bad, but looking back at the gamesheet, it stayed reasonably close for a while: http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/game/game_sheet/3584148

(Also, an EN goal with over 4 minutes to go?)

FL has been playing pretty good hockey lately; CEC, on the other hand, has hit a few bumps in the road. The Jacks should be the favorites, but I think Flake has a fighting chance.

Cloquet is distracted right now and possibly ripe for a Flake upset.

Gotta feel for Andover here. Although they did have an average season, they did beat CEC and Eden Prairie, who Rapids tied, CEC and ER lost to. Very surprised by that seeding.

It appears to me that you do not like GR. You might want to get your info right before you make such remarks. Think before you speak (write)!! STMA can only play GR in the finals hence, if STMA upsets GR then ER and DE will not be in the finals. GR did indeed blow it in their shorts last year in the quarter finals but they will not make that mistake twice. GR is the team to beat in this section, as this group has proved in both peewees and bantams.
