The "Republicans are Coming" Factor
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
It should be noted that one of my procrastinating employees is heading down to KC this weekend, he bought his tickets about a month ago but didn't book a hotel and is now having trouble getting a room within about 10 miles of the park... This will likely be another "home" series for the Twins.
On a side note, has anybody ever slept in a Grand Prix? He's wondering if it would be comfortable.

It's doable. I'd take a Super 8 over it though.Govs93 wrote:It should be noted that one of my procrastinating employees is heading down to KC this weekend, he bought his tickets about a month ago but didn't book a hotel and is now having trouble getting a room within about 10 miles of the park... That's what my grandpa used to always tell me, not sure where it started though...possibly Yogi?Neutron 14 wrote:Wasn't he the one who gave us "Swing hard in case you hit it"?ChrisK wrote:And let's hope they don't live up to Gary Gaetti's classic quote "It's hard to field the ball when you have both your hands around your throat." As far as sleeping in a G.P. goes, it all depends on how "sleepy" he is

A Fair and Balanced report of the Twins recent road trip would be that they did not"strike while the iron was hot".
.500 vs 2 bad teams is not good.
I see the White Sox are collapsing in winning only 2 of 3 from Boston.
The Factor sees what occurred as a harbringer of bad things for our favorite team's playoff chances.
They cant win even against bad teams on the road.
Thats a No Spin report.
Reality Check: The upcoming west coast trip will put then in a position form which they will not recover.
Spin it if you must but here on The Factor: The Republicans are Coming and there aint nothin anybody can do about it.

I don't know about that Neutron, but he had another great quote I think when he was with the Cardinals and took a high fastball deep: "No one gets the high cheese past the Rat".
This weekend left my head spinning, there's no excuse for not sweeping the Royals. LaVelle put Sunday's loss as the worst of the year so far. Apparently Everett lived up to Gaetti's quote, I guess I shouldn't have brought it up as it became a harbinger of doom.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with the Spinmeister, the long road trip brought on by the RNC could kill this team's chances. The good thing though is that they have a bunch of home games against the Tigers and Chisox.

It's hard to win when you always lose.
ChrisK, The Factor is always fair and balanced even in the face of a heavy volume of Spin
Talking Points:
They didn't make a big deal out of it when it happened but when Neshek went down, it was trouble long term.
Getting from the starters to Nathan has been very exciting lately and they cant afford to give up leads late.
Much to the chagrin of the Spinsters who decry a Chicago collapse, The Sox just beat the Red Sox 2 of 3.
The Twins limp home to play the Yankees who usually beat on them like a bongo drum.
No chance.
If its Spin you wanna hear, tune in to another thread.

The Twins are 9-7 against the Yanks under the bubble since '04. Not exactly stellar... not exactly beaten like a "bongo drum". No Spin. Just Facts.packerboy wrote:

I give them about a 56.25% chance of winning each of the next 3 games... Of course, the almighty Pontoon throws tonight, so I'll drop that down to 49%.

Well the not-so-tidy-whities lost last night, so the it was a series split, 2 and 2...
No chance? I assume you meant there is no chance for the Yanks if they don't score, no matter what blown up, washed up, ex Twin they put on the mound...

The Factorreports that the Twins have no chance because The Rebublicans are Coming and they dont do well on the road as shown on their last trip.
Thats The Big Picture.
One game vs the Yanks at home is not a Talking Point.
Reality Check:Our heros better have a 3 game lead before John McCain and his pals kick them out of town on the 21st of this month.
Hey, there is No Spin to be found here cuz we are lookin out for you on The Factor.

Actually the quote from Josey Wales is "Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining"packerboy wrote:Excellent choice OGEE.OGEE OGELTHORPE wrote:"Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining"
The Factor was thinking more along the lines of "get while the gettin is good" but hey, OGEE's selection is very creative.
There is No Spin in it.
Thank you for that clarification Cornbread. We always want to be accurate here on The Factor.
Interesting, 2 games to go and then The Republicans are Coming.
Because the White Sox collapse ,which the Spinsters said was certain to happen, has not yet occurred, the Twins will likely start the trip witout the lead in the division. Not good.
Talking Point:The hot bats have bailed out the bullpen for quite a while. It wont last and especilally out on the road.
Its tough on the road. Whether its on a Crusade or just on the road From Constantinople to St. Paul its long and winding.
The Twins dont do well out there.
How many games behind will they be when they get back? Will it be too many?
The Factor reports that when they get home, the playoff chances will be what we thought they were in April.....slim and none.
The Sox collapse theory is Spin.
The Republicans are Coming and that will be The Factor.
Remember, if its Spin you want, double click elsewhere.

One more game and The" Republicans are Coming "Factor kicks in.
A Factor Follow Up: The White Sox are 12-6 in August. The Spin Drs who predicted a collapse are no where to be found.
Talking Point: The Twins start this stretch in LA, LA land. While the Twins play 4 vs LALA, the Sox play 3 vs TB at home. The seperation could start early.
A must win today because the Twins can not afford to go 2 down to the "collapsing" Sox going into the trip.
No Spin here.

As the club heads west, let's take in some good perspective from PB's favorite daily, The Strib:
You can not deny that the 2008 Twins are taking us on an incredible ride and, for all the steps back, the season has been marked by continuous improvement. The four thumpings in Chicago back in June, the horrid performances in Boston and New York, the stunning setbacks in Seattle earlier this month. None of them caused a continuing tumble downhill.
A Factor that hasn't been covered. While I think most of us would prefer that they not go on the road for two weeks (particularly since the crowd they're bringing into town to replace them is far less entertaining), they really haven't gone on any prolonged bad stretch this season.
Just get through this Angels series, and everybody can start breathing again (a little). Cross your fingers today.

The Factor is aware of these things and more, Govs.
The Factor has not opined regarding the Twins and does not Spin it like the Red Star with their "great ride and improvement" Spin
The players dont want a great ride, they want to win and get into the playoffs. The fans are of a like mind.
But here is the Reality Check:2008 is the year of the home team. Only 1 AL contender has winning record on the road (LAA).
The Twins have 12 home games left. That's simply not enough.
The "Republicans are Coming" Factor is too big to overcome.
The Red Star gives you The Spin.
The Factor is a NO SPIN ZONE.
Fair and Balanced.
If it Spin you want, read the Red Star.

The Factor observed the distrurbing play of the Twins on the road on Sat and Sun and reports that the The Republicans are Coming and there isnt much anybody can do about it.
A Talkig Point memo: The Twins bullpen, which Neut defends as overworked, is shakey. Denny Reyes isnt overworked, he is overmatched, likewise Jesse Boofin Crain.
The series win in the balance and those 2 give it away.
Reality Check: Splitting with LAA in LA,LA land isnt bad but playing fair and balanced.500 baseball on the road aint gonna cut it.
Why? Because of The "Republicans are Coming" Factorof course.
Keep the Spin out of here.
