Since the inception of the A/AA format no team currently in 3A other than Hutchinson and Litchfield has brought home hardware from the State Tournament. And I do not believe Hutch or Litch was in 3A at the time. They were probably in 6A at the time. Litchfield leads the pack with a 4th place finsih i believe and Hutch won the consolation back in the day..GPGT wrote:InYourFace09 wrote:GPGT wrote: Not at all, just that weak sections should have quality competitive teams in it.. So therefore the sections would not be weak if you see them as a quality competitive teams?
Sounds like you are a bit sour as your team has several quality opponents.
LOL, NOTHING to do with it!! I live in Duluth and went to Duluth East, I coundn't care less about 3A, but came in here to try to find a reason for the weak section, I mean come on, am I way off? the #1 isn't even in the top 20.... I just want to know if Totino was in this section, would any one other than them ever get out of the section?
And just for my knowledge, when was the last time 3A made it out of the State 1/4s? Not trying to be rude, honestly asking when..

A better question for you; Outside of last year, when was the last time a 3A team did not play their first round game against the top rated A team competing at State, even though they do not seed 1-8? I am not big on looking back through records but from recent memory it has not happened.[/quote]
ANd you just proved my point.. They cannot play with anyone in the top 5, possibly top 10.. I can name 5 teams ( outside of last year ) that didnt make it to state that could have had an extremely good 1/4 state game and would have sent Luverne into running time....
I guess my points are invalid because you guys are section 3A fans, sticking up for your teams and sections... I am a onlooker from the outside thinking other "good" teams are getting the shaft
Bottom line I guess is in the ELite state of Hockey, there needs to be Elite teams to showcase.. Not a "sympathy section" where the #1 seed barely makes the top 25. So "I" want to see the best.. Maybe its fun for some but in the state of hockey I really dont care to see games in running time with a 5-1 shots differential
No one is getting the shaft.
Its the way it is set-up.
Hopefully, some day, a New Ulm will come down and be the cinderella story.
That's what we all want, isn't it?
If not our team, that team from out of no where.
And if we don't let them come to the dance, how are they going to give us that thrill.
Go Luverne, kick as*!

I can tell you from previous experience, that every player/coach/manager/student fan/parent and bus driver attending has a blast no matter what the score is.Deck Slide wrote:Running time is FUN... So yes, New Ulm got beat by Warroad. They earned their spot, and will enjoy every minute no matter what the game outcomes end up being.
From the opening dinner, to the hotels, games, and heading home..
The memories of that experience far outweigh any drumming they may have taken by an upper level team.
No matter who the teams are in the tourney, there are very few that can have a realistic shot at the title. That's going to be the case no matter how sections get sliced up. In addition, there is always going to be someone feeling slighted by the process.

As a past HS Hockey Player there is no FUN when you get beat down by 6 or more.. The experience as a whole is probably awesome, no questions asked! However, that particular game that was in running time ask the kids, and coaches how much FUN it is to be a part of those games. They are not FUN..inthestands wrote:I can tell you from previous experience, that every player/coach/manager/student fan/parent and bus driver attending has a blast no matter what the score is.Deck Slide wrote:Running time is FUN... So where do you see them rated in this section?Deck Slide wrote:I have seen them play Waconia, LSH, Orono, Delano, Luverne, and Litch..notSoFast wrote:Just out of curiosity how many times have you seen Hutch play this year?Deck Slide wrote:
Hutch has top end players with 8g, 13g, and 7g for the season. They don't have a kid that has 30 points this season. Not sure why you are saying no one wants to play Hutch. Really?? Their goaltending is terrible and they are not very deep!! The D core is average at best.. Hutch has what 5 wins this year. They have beaten Litch, LSH, Waconia, Eveleth, and Sauk Rapids. They don't have a quality win all year and they were presented the most opportunities for a quality win! True they probably played one of the tougher schedules in the Section but come on they have 5 freakin wins.. If they win the section it is an embarassment for 3A..
So i would say i have scene them enough.
I'll notify the State Office of Tourism that there is a new Marketing Phrase to add on top of "The State of Hockey". Please now add "The Elite State of Hockey, (which only includes the Metro and Duluth)." All the rest of the "Sympathy" sections please keep forwarding your dollars, but remain quietly in your own sympathetic sections and don't interfere with them "REAL Hockey" programs who deserve to be at State much more!GPGT wrote:Bottom line I guess is in the ELite state of Hockey, there needs to be Elite teams to showcase.. D-bag!

Truth be told, if they allowed these small fringe communities the population "Latitude" (that MANY in the Metro are STILL enjoying) of the populations that are WELL within reach of common sense draw, these outlying Sympathetic communities could compete. But, it's not the "Area" of Hockey, so the David's deal with ignorant dinks like you and carry-on.

wow... Far from Duluth and the Cities being quality teams... I said an "elite" level, Teams that don't get destroyed in a tournament... Warroad, TRF, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Moorhead.. These are excellent teams that have NOTHING to do with money, or recruiting and are excellent teams to watch play with much D1 talent throughout the years...
I realize Im swimming against the tide in a group of Section 3A fanboys, but from outside YOUR section, The rest of the state does not want to see your team get pounded every state 1/4 final... To me its like putting STA against Ely, just for the fact Ely made it out of the section... All it proves to me is how Good the good are, and how badly they Beat the bad

So we go off of past results? Predicting the future that they will never be good? Lets just let the same ELITE LEVEL teams play because no one else deserves a chance.
BTW I am from the cities.
Meh Im done arguing.. hers the bottom line ..l
I, want to see the best play at that top level....
YOU, and everyone else sound like nurturing mothers..."Oh, let them play, they deserve it, they work hard, it a dream" blah, blah , blah etc etc etc... Well guess what so do the guys on the team that are "GOOD" and have been in the top 5 all season , but got beat by a near unbeatable team ranked #1 all season and lost their ticket to the big show
I realize to be the best , you have to beat the best, Which is why I would want to see that top 5 team play a close game in the tourney vs a team and section that is consistently bad...\\
You guys think its not fair for the kids who are not that great, on a average team to go?? Well how about the kids that have had [parents send them to summer leagues, camps, and have made it possible for their kid to play and get noticed, all to have them never be seen on the big stage, Because a ( as some of you called my comment so, disrespectful ) Sympathy section, can have their winner...
I guess I just wont get it, because more than likely the better kids, on the better team , for the better program , have gave up and sacrificed just as much , if not more, Thank the kid down the road whos happy to see his team go .500 on one of the weakest schedules in the state

Fair is relative.
For a team to go, they have to be successfull in their section play offs.
If a team can win inside of the current system, good for them. If the system changes and a different set of teams win, good for them.
No nurturing, just competing inside of the plan at hand.
And yes, a team can have a great time being part of the state tourney even if they get throttled.. There's always a wide spectrum of teams wishing they had that chance.
Never gonna be a perfect system to please everyone out there. That's probably the only point not many would argue..

If "A" is that top level, then screw it there is no point. So you just want the teams that come March will be there to play a close game and not get killed. Who is to say that no matter what team is playing 3A will beat them with running time?
Most teams A teams that would have to play STA would not be close, granted there are a handful of A teams that cant, a majority can't.
So glad you agree with me!! You sir have made my 2013!!!roundhead wrote:You and I finally agree!GPGT wrote:Meh Im done arguing.. hers the bottom line ..l

I hear what GPGT is talking about, there will be better games in some section quarter and semifinal games. I saw in the last few days that Luverne was considered around a #25 team in the state, conjecture as the AP Poll only goes to #20. There will be a lot of pain the next 7 days as many teams better than Luverne will be falling by the wayside. Here are the AP top 10
1. St. Thomas Academy (10)
2. Breck
3. Hermantown
4. Totino-Grace
5. East Grand Forks
6. Thief River Falls
7. Rochester Lourdes
8. St. Cloud Cathedral
9. Duluth Denfeld
10. Warroad
4A: How would you like to be #4 Totino, great year, all year in the top 10 and to get to state you have to go through #1 St Thomas Academy, arguably the best team in the state in either class?
5A: #8 Cathedral has been inconsistent this year but they are the #2 in the section with wins over Hermantown, Breck and Little Falls but they have to get by #3 Hermantown to see St. Paul.
8A: #5 EGF, #6 TRF, #10 Warroad, two will be home for the season by next Friday.
3A is the patsy all the seeded teams want to play in the state tournament because it means a running time game and a free pass into the championship side of the bracket. Just the teams I mentioned about would be a pretty quality and entertaining tournament. 3A is an example of why the AA people look down their noses a A and is a great example of why some advocate for a third class, or even drop the programs to Jr Gold.
Have Luverne or New Ulm play the schedule of any of these teams, they would be exposed as the punchlines they are.

The MSHSL has it set up that teams from the corners of the state participate for the championship. Not the system some are looking for because they want every

You heard it 3A, your all punchlines. Fold your programs immediately. Your not wanted anywhere. Burn your arenas down. You are not up to the specifications of these idiots. In fact, maybe the towns you reside in should simply melt into the earth as well. You will never compare to the numbnuts up in duluth, or the clown in the cities. KNOW WHEN TO FOLD EM....
