Hey rwb1351,rwb1351 wrote: I don't mean that the teams aren't playing good hockey. I used the word relative for a reason. Compared with last years teams, i feel like their isn't as much scoring, there isn't as much speed.
Don't be bullied out of having and expressing an opinion. I've wittnessed these games and agree with you. FYI I know where the speed is...New Hope Arena, Tuesday's, Thursday's, and Sunday's. 7:00-8:30pm. You might want to check it out.
Sorry. I was very general in my original statement. Sometimes i forget that not all are on the same page as we when my thoughts come blurting out.UWhockey88 wrote:Ok-I understand now. I agree with you also-there is so much equal talent these days that the days of Winny and Ronda and the other girls you mentioned are not as evident. Perfect example is what happpened to many of the highly rated teams at Sections/State. Cool-thanks for explaining!
I still stand by my statement. I believe i just explained it more in-depthly.Oiler08 wrote:Hey rwb1351,

I've watched some of the Os league, including the tryout, and it's nice to see Winny B. there all the time overseeing things, etc.
That aside, I believe what people are seeing relative to the comparison to last year is a realization of just how great that class of 88's was... Amazing!!! This is NOT a knock on the 89's, etc. but the 88's just set the bar so high...
And, I think both the prep & elite league are doing their job and seem to have evenly matched teams, etc.

Exactly. The standard is set and i believe all classes in the future should def. tip their hats to that class.ghshockeyfan wrote:I've watched some of the Os league, including the tryout, and it's nice to see Winny B. there all the time overseeing things, etc.

I agree on your first point as well. Seeing the staff actually at the games is very encouraging. It shows that they are in it for the development of the game.
I'm fairly new to G hockey in that I have been involved with girls younger than the 88's but knowing many 90s through 94s I think that there is talent bubbling up with the 91, 92, 93 classes. Many girls nowadays are getting better instruction than a lot of the older players did in years past. Many of the clinics during the summer are targeting girls hockey. There are lots of younger girls getting excellent instruction which bodes well for girls hockey in the near future. Remember that it wasn't until the early 90s that G hockey was sanctioned as a high school sport and I think the biggest grow in young players has been over the last 5 years or so. I'll let you guys be the judge of some of the early 90s classes (especially 92) versus the 88 class in the next few years but I think they will be pretty good.ghshockeyfan wrote:I've watched some of the Os league, including the tryout, and it's nice to see Winny B. there all the time overseeing things, etc.

The 92's would be about right as far as birthyear to have had some impact form the 98 olympic success. I would think some in the 90-94 range would have been impacted by this as well. That, and the solidification of youth offerings for girls only vs having to play boys made an impact I'm sure.
HS & college coaches probably much prefer getting players with a full youth experience vs. starting in HS or 7th/8th grade, etc. That can only be good for the sport. We still have some that believe that girls should play boys hockey if they really want to be the best players. I'm not sure I buy into this anymore as I once did long ago.
I think that some of the 91-94 classes have a chance of seeing a group of forwards that's very solid, but many don't realize how high the bar has been set by those 88's. I think we have to be careful to not be blinded by the short history and also biases towards recent classes, but I would guess that that 88 birth year may be one that we don't soon forget as far as the better ones.
