24 players - UMD next year?

Post by money »

Hello everyone -

Right now, UMD has only 24 players on next year's roster. With Drew Fisher off the market, does anyone know if that is the # they are going with. I am a Dog fan and quite frankly, with injuries and poor play, that is not a lot of depth to pick from.

14F's and 7 D - 21 skaters. Doesn't seem right...
Please post any thoughts or ideas. Thank you.

I agree. The numbers are on the light side. For both reasons you stated and add academic problems that tend to keep players out of the lineup, the numbers aren't enough.

Competitiveness comes from within. A team that has players striving to get in the lineup makes for healthy competition and a stronger team.

I hope they can add a few quality players and become a contender again.

John O'Neil - Newest Dog commitment

Post by money »

Hello and good afternoon -

John O'Neil has verbally committed to the UMD Bulldogs! He will participate in the Select 17 Festival in St. Cloud later this summer. Looks to be a nice addition.

Any thoughts regarding what type of player he is?
Thanks,

UMD recruiting

Post by money »

Hello and good evening -

I posed this question on the College hockey board but, I will ask it here.
With all the Elite League games going on and it being so heavily attended by college scouts, etc. Why haven't we heard about any rumblings about UMD is interested in? I am a fan but, even more than that I am shocked they haven't been more "active" this fall. They have a ton of needs at offense and I just hope they can land some of this guys that have tremendous potential.

Any thougths or feedback would be great!

Huttel really is coming in as a true freshman next season. I would agree that he could probably use a year of juniors but I guess UMD figured they needed the help on D sooner rather than later with the departures of Geris and Niskanen.
NO WAY is he ready for the WCHA next year,
my opinion.... LeBleau is struggling in the USHL minus `12 I believe? a huge jump for a Huttel to make next year
he doesn't have to be ready for the WCHA to play for UMD

Ouch!

Rumors were flying that you had eligibility remaining and were considering an offer by the Bulldogs. [-o<

Maybe that was drinking Long Island Teas at Grandmas \:D/

WOW! Why all the Bulldog haters on this thread? I respect the fact that they are going after some MN kids as of late. Back in the day their roster was riddled with late 20's Canadiens. I for one would like to see this program return to the top of the WCHA.

Great comment about the Long Island Teas by the way. They raised their price to $4 now. You now need to bring $8 to get loaded rather than $6.

That's inflation for you. However, Grandmas has been known for making a great Long Island Tea. What the heck, be a big spender and go for three teas. Make sure you get a cab.

I didn't see this. Good for Hendrickson, he is as solid a player as I have seen and will be a good pick up for Sandelin.

Anders Lee - Edina rumor

Post by money »

Hello & good afternoon -

Any idea why on the Central Scouting List they have Lee committed to the UMD Bulldogs. I don't believe there is any reason to believe that is valid.

Just curious.

Any other Dog recruiting news to share with us fans? I like the Hendrickson pickup but, I hope there is more action coming up here.

Have a good day!

It was just an error on their part. They have rectified it since then and he is no longer listed as committing anywhere.

Nope, but i do know who they are not trying to sign and can't comprehend why not. Here is a a thought for you faithful Bulldog fans, Why are the Dogs not trying to get Zach Lehrke from Park Rapids, he tore up the Elite League this Fall and would be a nice addition to UMD's future teams. I have heard that there are some other WCHA teams showing intrest. (St.Cloud, CC, Mankato)

i think the gophers are going to regret not purusing hendrickson. An extemely skilled passing center with soft hands. Usually undresses goalies with his handles. He'll probably light the gophers up in 09
