Thankyou, I didn't want to get into all the reasons, but you hit it right on the head.inthestands wrote:Are the away tournaments attended for the players or parents?
One game per day isn't out of line for a three day tourney. Aren't there other activities the kids can do while there? Pools, game rooms, and so one?
Adding a game, will add cost. If cost is a deterent, that will not help. Ice time, officials, arena workers and so on. We try to fill the away tournament time with a team movie or something along that line.
How much can the kids give when they are on the road? Even though they are young, they only have so much quality energy to offer. Playing games to play games doesn't always equate into fun.
when do we say enough on travel!!!????

I have to tell you, we live "way up north" too and I think we had 2 home games since the end of December otherwise 6 out of the last 7 weekends we were out of town to tournaments or games. The one weekend was 3 non district games: noon in Bemidji, 7pm in Crookston, overnight at TRF and up to Roseau and home. It was ridiculous. I was a bad mom and said no, I'm not doing it....pointless. I drove my son to Bemidji and then on Sunday to Roseau, he got benched for the first 5 minutes because, "it wasn't his fault"......coach made me look like a bad person in front of my kid. I thought kids weren't supposed to be punished for a parents behavior, that is what it says in our handbook anyway. My son didn't mind, he got good rest in his own bed. I would do it again if I had to...
