completely agree with b....teams like green bay look good for a kid looking to snag a spot with how poorly they ended up and with a new coach looking to improve or elsenipe87 wrote:alright so i had pretty long talks with about six of the ushl assistant coaches/head scouts this weekend and a brief talk with bob turow, director of central scouting.
i asked a few questions that people on here may be wondering:
1) why did i receive an invite letter to the "open camp"?
2) how good of a chance do you have to make it thru the open camp to the invite camp to the fall classic team and then onto the final team?
in short, this is how they put it:
1) the open camps are not really "open" as the title makes it seem. they said that 90 percent of the players at these camps are invited by them. the other 10 percent are kids who did sign up for the camp without being invited (to get in though previous experience must be high quality and they more times than not talk to your coaches to make sure you even stand a chance with the competition).
2) they also said that this is how the process works. you will start out (usually, some teams are different) with 80 kids at the "open" or first camp. after being evaluated individually, they will take about 15-30 players to move on to the second camp. those kids are joined by the 30 players on the protected list and the future prospects for that team. from there, it is all up for grabs on who makes the 30 man list at the end of that camp, though drafted players and returning players usually have the advantage, they said that every year there are 4-6 kids that snag a spot from someone who was protected, and 2-3 of them end up making the final team after the fall classic.
**they also said to note, in cases where there is a new head coach or a team that had a very poor previous season, that those teams usually start blank at these camps and select many unprotected players as they try to begin a new era for that team also known as a "rebuilding year."
Tryout Letters USHL/NAHL
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
If memory serves, of the 12 teams in the USHL, 7 have new head coaches this coming season. Go to the tryout camps and play your butts off. There is no set style for many of the teams, so don't think you know what a coach is looking for.
Also, a point on the fighting.. There are many players who will never drop the gloves. And many of those will go on to great college careers. Don't let the fighting thing be a major concern, unless you like to trash talk or do little things behind the play.. Play a clean hard game and if you don't want to fight, you won't have to.
Good luck to everyone who goes to the tryouts. It's an experience that few will really have a chance to experience.

I'm gonna break it down for you. They send letters to some kids they know are pretty good. They go to the try-out and pay all of this money and some get chosen. It's a win-win for the teams because they make money and pick up some pretty good players that they might not have otherwise.
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out.

??? Weak section??? I'd say 8AA is not a weak section, now if you your talking conference, yes the M8 is not a powerhouse, but if your gonna slam someone it's best to at least know the differencehoundtwo wrote:HO'FAMER:
WHY STAY IN HS AND COMPLAIN OF THE WEAK SECTION, POOR PLAYERS, ETC. IF YOUR KID IS THAT GOOD. mAYBE SOME USHL TEAM WOULD HAVE PLAYER WHO CAN KEEP UP WITH HIM OR AT LEAST SIT WITH HIM ON A BENCH. NO GUARANTEES YOU WOULD SHOW THEM.

Also if you want to attack a kid, at least structure your written attack so that it can be read by a kid

Not sure what you are talking about...No guarantees I would show them what? My son has not made anything through the tryout process and by the looks of it probably wont. I dont think I have complained about any of the above and hardly think our section is weak...Moorhead, Roseau Brainerd and Tech are hardly easy prey...please be more specific...houndtwo wrote:HO'FAMER:

To attack my kid is cowardly and if I ever meet you face to face I would love to hear your opinions...he feels badly that a coach he liked has been accused of this..that's his only thought on the whole matter and his career is frankly none of your business..so please dont bring him up again in your rants...

No sweat...I just think you have kinda attacked me and my family a bit in these threads...Because I am outspoken I am prepared to be attacked and relish the opportunity to express my opinion. I hope you do too! As far as juniors go my son has participated in several tryouts but also is looking forward to his Junior year at BHS and playing with his friends...The pursuit of Junior Hockey is a tough decision and one many more than he is faced with.houndtwo wrote:sorry if this was taken wrong. the hope in buffalo is that your son will stay and play on the high school team and the rumor is that might not happen. we hope only for his best

I'm going to guess no, as he was trying out for Green Bay following Tri-City's camp.breakout wrote:Someone told me that Alex Rush tried out and made the team. Is that true?warrior2132 wrote:Players that made the 30 man roster for Tri-City from Mn

That'd make sense. Probably best for him if he doesn't go there anyways. That franchise is in complete chaos and still have no head coach.warrior2132 wrote:well he was given all the information and was sent emails about gear....he might have been cut from the 30 man or trying out somewhere closer but right out of camp he made it
