Meisser, we all have our loyalties to our roots, mine will forever be in north dakota with the FIGHTING sioux. About the issue of private schools, most of the AHA players came from private grade schools and have followed the "regular" path to a private high school. Thats just how some families do things, like mine for example. Nearly one side of my family has been educated by private Catholic schools. Its just something that people have to accept. Athletes want to be a part of good programs and get recogntion.
Thanks for the update Zamman! It sounds like those Culver boys must be something special. I know with the teams out east it was an adjustment for the stars; theyre playing a different style of hockey out there. Go stars.

game 2

Post by Zamman »

Just got back from the second game and this was another great game. First heads up about the players. AHA lost two players last night, but not sure for how long. Tonight they had to move the lines around. Trebil is a master, he did a great job. The STARS came out and played even harder than last night. They held off the eagles with a 3 - 2 win. Not sure who got all the goals, but Mattson got one for sure. Culver had two players get ejected for hitting from behind. And they also got to take a penalty shot that was stopped by the AHA goalie. I was really impressed with how AHA played, I am excited to watch them play next week. Good trip 1 - 1.

It's always great to see any Minnesota team go out and play well against the best other states have to offer, especially the prep schools on the Shattuck level. Props to Holy Angels.

I don't know when exams are, nor do I care. I will point out - correctly - that the notion that Culver's beliefs placing academics over hockey, resulting in no participation in championships, is false.

The school participates in the Indiana championship and does well.

You either participate in playoffs or you don't. This school does. Considering the second team wins it as often as they do, I hope nobody suggests the Prep team should.

Last time I looked at the web site of Culver, their Varisty team (equivalent to SSM Prep) does not play in the Indiana State Championship.
Exactamundo. I never said they did.

Yeah, like the guy that said Culver believes in academics so much that they eschew end-of-season tournament play.

That's great. A split with Culver Military Academy or whatever it is called is very impressive. Sounds like Holy Angels is a threat in Section 2.

Wow o-town, undies in a bundle or what?

The state tournament (just like MN's) in Indiana is much earlier than the end of Culver Academy Prep's regular season. Which is why the varsity team can play then. They probably have a similar schedule like ours. The national title tourney is during their exams. Plain and simple.

It's crazy to think that year in and year out AHA is able to play with some of the top prep schools in the country. Really shows how good MN hockey is.

No, I just find it comical that some guy sends his daughter to Culver and makes holier than thou comments about how such a fine institution places academics in such high regard that its teams don't participate in end of year playoffs.

That may be the case for one of their teams, but it obviously isn't the case for another. How on earth do these boys find the time?

It appears that they travel to just about every hockey state. MI, MN, MA, IL, MO, and more. (I am not sure where all the New England schools are located.)

Culver shuts it down about a month before Shattuck and does not go to the U18 Tier I tournament. Some people are more impressed about that than others.

LeBate received a concussion and Hartman had a dislocated shoulder, I am not sure how bad either of the injuries are and how long they will be out.

It's awesome when people purposely ignore comments that are pertinent to the discussion made by others. It's what makes this board function so well

O-townClown, good luck ever participating in a coherent conversation buddy
