This is getting silly. The Mustangs just beat Como 10-1 to wrap up all but Blake in the first round through the Tri-Metro. They are 6-0 with a scoring margin of 51-4. How can this be good for anybody? This week should prove to be the last of the real challenge for the Mustangs until they get to Sections with away games at Orono and a televised game @ Blake.

breck is really good. and just to throw this out there, when they played teh saints, the saints were down their second leading scorer then lost their leading scorer with about 5 minutes left when atleast 4 goals were scored to make it 9-1. it was 4-1 going into the third. still a game at that point

I don't know if Breck is "really good" but it is clear they are better than the rest of this really bad conference. I didn't see the Saints game with Breck but I bet it was really over within the first few minutes and all that was left was to see how often the fourth line would play and score.

Breck is probably better than the rest of the section which is also pretty bad, maybe the second weakest in the state. It is hard to imagine that playing this kind of schedule doesn't hurt them when they come up against better teams. Didn't they tie someone they should have beaten a couple weeks ago?

Breck is awesome!!! The Bears don't have a chance. Goldy for mayor!! They wont get any credit until they actually do something in sections though.

They tied Totino 1-1. Great game by both netminders. Since the Schwan's cup the have looked very good condidering some injury and illnesss that have have kept Rehkamp out a game, Chuck Borer out a dozen, Cam Born out for 3 games.

As for the schedule, it's got to be changed. The Mustangs are only going to be better next year and they have an outstanding group on 8th/9th graders joining the team in years to com..

Should Breck jump to AA as it appears St. Thomas has opted to do?

Wait, St. Thomas appears to have opted to make the jump? Do you have a source for this?

All the bloggers bragging about Breck and how weak the Tri Metro and other teams are seems to be forgetting about the last two(2) or three(3) years plus for Breck. They were nothing special. Yes, great to see their success and it would be wonderful to see them get to State. It has been a long time since Breck has had the opportunity to see this type of success. How about achieving success first and then showing some class if you get there?! Possible?

Goldy doesn't have it in him. He loves to brag about the team all year only to see them fall on their face. I love the mustangs but someone needs to reel this guy in. Now after one year he is talking about moving to AA. Their record in the last 4 years against AA teams is 5-11-1.

I was told this over the weekend - that St. Thomas was definitely going to be moving to AA next year. My source is marginal at best (a very involved parent from Cretin) - they seemed confident - but i can not confirm the facts.

Anyone else???

On another note - i think many of us like to root for the underdog. And we also like to see up and comming programs succeed. It is good for hockey across the entire state. There will always be the Edinas, Eden Prairies, Stillwaters and White Bear Lakes - the large schools with large Associations in which to draw from. But It is good to see the St. Paul schools, both public and private see some success. It is good for youth hockey and the sport. Breck may be far and away the best team in the Tri - Metro this year. But that has not always been the case. And a couple of good years does not a dynasty make... Blake has been a very good program over the years - but is down this year. Breck will have their ups and downs too.

I think it is great that there are some teams in this conference that are improving. And yes - they are not top teams yet - but watch out. The saints have a couple of very good players, Providence is new to the conference - and this will help them. Same with Johnson and Como. SPA's program was dead 4 years ago - now look what Norwich and the program has done - Varsity and JV teams - competitive, and some very good players.

Yes - Breck is the class of the conference - but a couple of years ago all the rest of the teams besides Blake were in the lower 50 in rankings. Now they are 75-100. This is an improvement! Not only have these teams become stronger - but it appears their programs are built to sustain respectability. Any you never know... in a few years and a couple of quality classes of players, they could be like Breck is today.

and then there is Highland - first year JV program. This is great for St. Paul Hockey - gives the Highland Central players something to look forward to. A reason for them to stay in the game. Maybe this could be another addition to the conference down the road???
