Agreed section 8 is a joke. I think that only one team from outside the metro area should be allowed to go to the tourney. This would allow the best teams to play in the state tournament. Maybe then both Jefferson and Edina could go to the state tournament.
Ewe have to be kidding...I think you should visit the MSHL touney records and see which sections are leading in wins, titles, runnerups and third place since the inception of the two class system...seems to me that 7 & 8 AA come prepared. History does not lie.

Hail the Flannel nation...and wool of course.
Times they are a changin my friend the Northern teams were once powers but we can clearly see that over the past few years (Roseau was not that good last year) that the teams from the cities are getting better and the ones from outstate are well declining. Look at section 1AA there is a good possibility that no team from that section will have a winning record this year. 8AA is not much better and if not for Duluth East 7AA would be the same way. And the teams from the cities that they throw in these sections are not exactly the best ones. I'm saying one northern section and the rest from the cities so we can spread around the good teams thus, not having Jefferson, Edina and AHA all in the same section this year when they all are clearly better than any team in 1AA or 8AA.

Down-cycles happen. The north did essentially nothing in the 1980s but no one saw any need to do anything about that, and it rebounded just fine in the early 90s.
Section 6AA, which from 98-07 included Edina, EP, and Jefferson for about half the time, achieved absolutely nothing on the state level. This sort of thing can happen to any section at any time. It's a bit silly to go about upending all the section alignments, some of which have a lot of good history and rivalries behind them, because of one or two down years.
If you want to complain about a section, complain about 1AA, which hasn't done much of anything since Burnsville's dynasty in the mid-80s.

Over the past few years????? I'm wondering if that would include 2007, when it was an all north final at state for both classes. Roseau and Grand Rapids, which are your representatives from 8AA and 7AA respectively, and for A, Hermantown from 7A and Duluth Marshall from 5A and is now in 7A. Looks like the north teams have done ok over the past few years..
Obviously this year northern teams are down, but as some have mentioned, this happens from time to time. As long as there are still people living in northern minnesota, there will still be good hockey teams in northern minnesota.. that is unless al gore is actually telling the truth.

You are the joke!! Just think what some teams would be if those private school players actually played for their own home team!!??

man you public school people sure can whine. "put em all in one section" "what if they actually played for their hometown team" stop whining and work on making your supposedly great hometown teams more desirable for kids whose parents want them to get a better education. i know there are cases of kids transferring for hockey reasons... i say so what, but thats besides the point. In my area you'd be dumb to not go to a private school just because of the situation in most of the public schools, hockey wise but more importantly academic and even safety reasons. Take off your blinders and realize other factors go into decisions besides hockey. and now for the actual topic...

Well said. There are a million different reasons that kids go to private schools rather than public ones and hockey is rarely the only one. These private schools deserve just as much respect as the public ones get.
