Jefferson. This game will come down to the goalies play. Both have solid forwards and solid defensemen. I trust the Jefferson goalie more than the Edina goalie. Sad as this sounds the the only three of the top six teams in the State will not make it to the State Tournament due to their sections. In reality, the top eight teams in the State are EP, Jefferson, Edina, Tonka, East, Morehead, Cennential and Blaine, however, due to MSHL seedings, we never really get a true State Champion. Mayo and Cretin shouldn't be considered.

We will see a true state champion. Whoever wins the championship will be the "state champion". I don't understand why we won't see the true champion.

I really cant pick a winner here. This game is going to come down to whoever wants it more. I would like to see the jags prevail but we will all just have to wait until thursday! Should be a intense game 8)

big is the key word there, i think the size and strength of edinas forwards will give jefferson trouble. Some of jeffersons d are rather small and they may lack the strength to match up with edinas forwards.
The Olympic size ice surface should help Jefferson keep it further away from the net and give them more room to skate it out of the zone. This could help offset one of Edina's key strengths: being able to score in close quarters right around the goal crease.
Here it is again -- the old "the bigger ice surface is a disadvantage for Edina" argument. I never bought it in the past, and I don't buy it now.

The Olympic size sheet favors teams that are fast and can play the possession game. I am more familiar with Edina than Jefferson, but I imagine these qualities apply to both teams. I have a hard time believing it is more true of Jefferson than Edina.

I disagree the Hornets have something to prove, and that is that they can win the state tournament

That group of seniors have not wont won it yet and this is obviously their last chance
I think you may have missed O-townClown's sarcasm. He's an Edina guy and is well aware of the fact that Edina wants a State Championship badly this year!! I think you're right though 51 - Edina has the experience and depth and should take this one but I doubt Jefferson will give it up easily. Good luck to both teams - I'm sure it will be a great game.
This will be a great game. Both teams will give it their all. Jefferson has some players on Junior gold (seniors) that desire to be on the team. Cameron and Lindholm both could have given the team some added depth.

I have seen both teams play 3 times. Edinas D will struggle with the speed and depth of Jeffersons forwards. Jeffersons goalie is a tad better then Edinas, but Edinas 1st line could keep them in the game. I am taking the Jags in a shoot out 5 to 4. Wish I could be there.

In section a championship do they resort to a shootout if there is no winner after a few OT's?

I didn't think so, but thanks for the clarification. Should be a great night at Mariucci on Thursday.

Anyone know the ticket situation for these games? Can you get them prior to the games or do they have to be purchased at the Mariucci gate?

You can purchase the tickets either from the schools starting today or at the doors at 5 at the rink.

Neither has Ankeny, I've never seen Ankeny play but I have heard that O'Connor is better.

I give this game to Jefferson. I think this comes down to the Edina goalies verus the Jefferson goalie. I like Jefferson here only based on their goalie play. Jefferson 2-1 in OT.

o ya. cut freshmen year. jv for aha 10-11th grade, then he would have been cut senior year for aha. so he goes to jefferson where they have no goalies. doesnt sound like a goalie of the year. i dont think trebil missed anything

I don't think he missed anything either, especially with Burke.

and look at that, playing in the section final after winning goalie of the year against the team that beat the coach who cut him... pretty good story if you ask me

edit: and you're wrong, he was JV for jefferson last year, and did really damn well.

Well all i know for sure is that AHA is no longer in the picture so who cares.....

And second, O'Connor can't be that bad if
a) He won goalie of the year
b) He has 9 shutouts on the year
c) 1.38 GAA, .923 save %

All of you have your own opinions which is fine but i think the stats speak for themselves...

Those stats mean a lot more about Jefferson team D than O'Connor
