Always good to pound a Chicken

Mayo played 4 girls all game that had not played all year, back up goalie in nets, good to play the young kids like that... :D

Flesher just getting started, as she had hip problems from All State soccer season this fall... MG has had that kind of effect in Ozone for many years now... :D

Next game... should be fun...
Fbo 3 Mayo 2. Always good to shock a Spartan. As I predicted, the 2 senior wingers that were out last game kept Flesher in check. Proud of the hustle and grit that the Fbo girls showed.

Shocker yes...

Congrats to the Falcons for hanging in a game they were dominated in. Mayo had 4-5 breakways that were put over the net, that Flesher usually puts in the twine, not to mention the 6-7 point blank chances Mayo did not capitalize on, and then the 2 beautiful calls in the last 2 minutes of the game, but I digress there...
So If I were "Falcons 89", I may want to back off the "in check" mentioned above a little...

Congrats though, and have to say that Bergland is a nice player, putting those two PP goals in in the last minute to win the game for the Falcons...

Falcons can build on this for the 1A Section showdown w/ Red Wing later this year, and Mayo has to get better at putting teams and games like these away when they have ample opportunity to do so all game long... :!:

Mayo will have to do so in the next month, or it will be a short Section run for them...

I wouldn't agree with the "dominated." Shots were 7-3 in first, 12-10 in second and 10-7 in the 3rd, with about 4 of those shots comming with the Mayo goalie pulled. Not exactly domination.

Dman also fails to mention the rink ringing post by Bergland and the 3 or 4 other good scoring chances that Fbo missed the net on.

Once again, the refs blew the game, Both penalties called were clearly penalties, a check from behind with a Fbo player having possession of the puck behind the net and a straight out trip in front of the net. These were not "ticky tack" calls. In fact, they let Mayo get away with a check/interfearance on Bergland just before they made the calls. But if you need excuses, that's ok.

Fbo played well and earned the win. Fbo has now beaten both Mayo and West, so this wasn't a fluke. Good luck in sections everone.

Mayo - Faribault

Post by DmanDad1980 »

No excuses...
Are we talking scoring chances or shots... There was definite difference in scoring chances between the two squads...

Put it simply, Mayo had more scoring chances and did not put in the multitude of chances they had, that was their game to win, and let a team come back to beat them... no excuses...

Lakeville South 1 Owatonna 0

Good game between these two teams. Lakeville South is a pretty solid squad. Keshia Reuvers had a great game in the net for the Huskies. Owatonna had trouble mustering up much offense until the 3rd period where they started passing the puck a little more. South seems in line to get the #1 seed in the section. Owatonna, Lakeville North, Farmington and Mayo will most likely be battling it out for the 2-5 seeds. North vs. South and Mayo vs. Owatonna are big games coming up in the next few weeks.

Hats off to the section and how well this group is playing. I diasagree with this theory of only 5 teams and the rest not being mentioned. I would say this Section have 8 teams that could win. Look at what happened last Night Winona 2-1 over MAYO so much for the key game mentioned above. Owatonna 5-3 over Dodge County shots only 5 difference and Dodge was up 2-1 after One. Owatonna lost to the section favorite South 1-0. Jm Owatonna game last week was 3-2 owatonna . Dodge County Beat JM twice this year 3-1 and 3-1 and are lead in scoring by 10th grader, three 8th graders and a 7th grader, 9th grade starting goalie. Jm has a D1 goalie and a top line that has a ton of points, and Winona plays a very good defensive trap style of hockey as Mayo found out last nigh. Farmington beat a Solid Shokapee team last night as well as 2 big victories over Red Wing and seem the favorite to Win the tough Missota Conference. Early in the year Owatonna beat Farmington 4-3 so anything can happen. Good Luck to all and its good to see Girls Hockey getting better each year in Southern Minnesota.

Wow!! Guess FBO's win wasn't as impressive as I thought.

What is happening to Rochester Hockey? Is not being able to co-op still that big of a deal, or is the youth program not producing players?

anyone hear anything about the winona team? hard to tell how they are doing when they dont post anything on the mshsl website... seem to be improving and beating better teams.. the big nine conference seems to have a lot of competition for the top spot.

They hustle and play hard, but arn't all that skilled. Fbo has beaten them twice this year, 5-1 and 5-2, Farmington beat them 7-1.

They are benifiting from the screwed up way that the Big Nine does confrence, which is you only have to play each team once and even if you play the team twice, only once game counts in the confrence standings. They have yet to play Owatonna and West, which should be losses for them.

2176,
A couple of the "dads" said that Winona only dresses 2 lines and plays a grinder game. They just work hard. Their description was that Winona was not flashy but played a very defensive game and took advantage of mistakes. They said that Mayo played the backup goalie and there were multiple breakdowns around the net where nobody picked up loose Winona players after the initial shots left rebounds.

JM/L has really surprised me with their poor Big 9 record. We have the talent but aren't winning with it. Our third period is just killer.

F89F,
Rochester has been able to keep their better 8th/9th graders in 14U this year. I checked the web and the 14A team is in 3rd with only 2 league losses. Owatonna is in 1st (also 2 losses) but has one more game played. The Owatonna girls made it to State last year. The 14B team has played well but the lower half of the team is fairly weak. Faribault chose to play 14B and not A this year after losing Walker(9), Lipinski(9) and Salmonsen(8 ) to their HS team(did I miss any?). Rochester's 14Bs have finished 2nd in two tourneys. The 12A won the AV tourney and finished 3rd at Lakeville. In league play they are lower in the standing but have only played 9 games compared to 12-14 for all of the teams above them. The 12B won their first tourney of the season. The girls youth program is going the right direction but still has to divide into 3 high schools.

Section seedings this weekend. Lakeville South appears to have locked up the #1 seed. JM & Century will probably be #8 & #9 playing in the pigtail game. Seeds 2-7 are quite a different story. What are your predictions?

JM/L ran out of gas again. Lost 3-2 after having a lead again. Same kind of thing happened in Winona game. Is it mental? Pretty much means seed 8.

South is by far the top team here... Should be heavily favored to go to State from Section 1...

But, 2-5 could go in any direction, ties, wins/losses between clubs, poor records...
IMO...

Rocket78 Fraud

Post by wildcatfan »

I have been long time fan whom reads these threads and cannot phantom that the rocket78 is actually a JM parent. This persons poses as one but in fact has to be truly a Mayo parent with the comments and posts. I myself am not a farse and am a Dodge County Parent. We will cover these in a second but here are my rankings and reasons as well:
1. South

2-5 agree coin flip but

2. North (big wins over owatonna and mayo)
3. Mayo (two wins over Owatonna tie with Farmington
4. Owatonna Big Nine champ losses twice to mayo and loss to Lakeville beat Farmington
5. Farmington Sloid team injuries hurt in the year
6. Dodge County 3 wins over JM 3-1,3-1,5-1 Owatonna loss 5-3 outplayed and shots even in the game even though 5 more penalties, beat winona 4-1 in scrimmage and outplayed them two weeks ago, Austin laoss was fluke 3-2 as short many players and winona loss to them as well, as was winona fluke win over mayo outshot 3-1 and had backup goalie
7, Winona only big win was Mayo Fluke win, barely crawled by JM 3-2 in OT after Dodge beat them 5-1 days earlier and squeeking by them the first game 1-0 without Bonapace and top two scorers as well as getting pounded 5-1 by owatonna last night These teams are not even close
8. JM/Lourdes with losses to the two above teams
9 Century

Now After the Winona game I was at a local bar with JM parents and the winona Seedings came up...Not one person selected Winona over Dodge it was unanimous Dodge was better as well as last night in Owatonna this topic was brought up and again agreed.

Now Rocket you also had some praise for winona about being a sleeper team after mayo lost to Winona and in true Mayo colors bragged them up so your team did not look so bad. I would do the same I guess to save face. Please prove me wrong and PM your name to me as I was with almost every JM parent after the Winona game to show me you are really a JM parenty and not a fraud Mayo parent that we all think you are.

Thanks
If No reply I will post this that rocket 78 is a fake or eat my words and post you really exist and are truly a JM parent.

Owatonna actually tied Lakeville North 3-3 giving up two goals in the last 10 minutes in the game, beat Farmington 4-3 and lost to Lakeville South 1-0 with two minutes left in the game. The thorn in their side was two close losses to Mayo which is difficult to overlook.

I agree that Dodge is the stronger team than Winona.

I find it quite amusing that Wildcat would get this wild (yes pun intended) over the 6/7 seed. The 6th or 7th seed doesn’t stand a chance of making it out of this section. You can have high hopes, but there is no way either Dodge County, or Winona can beat the 1-5 teams (except for the Winona fluk), let alone beat 3 of them in a row. It may make for good bar discussion, but you would have to be on your 11th or 12th beer to find it entertaining.

Falcon 89 fan Agree on the 6 7 topic being the longshot but again has happend look in the past couple years. Also last year the 6 dodge went to Doulbe Ot with Lakeville North last year so never say never on upsets. Point on this was this USER on these threads is One GUY with three diff names. You have been on here long time cant believe you have not caught on.

On Faribo you have a great player good team and as much grief you guys say about RW and being all alleva I would say you guys are the same as it all starts around Bergland.

Also glad to see you are in Single A as you would be battling us for the 6 seed as well and a one and done. Owatonna is the 5 and they beat you twice this year so thank God for single A hockey where you are the two seed with dreams to go to the XCEL and the minor league tournament.

Good Luck

Wow....disgruntled parent are we...are you reliving your childhood wanna bes in your daughters athletics.
In looking at stats, Faribault surely doesn't only rely on Bergland. Their goalie is in the top 10 in state wins and up there in saves, they have had Salmonsen on the assist board one time sitting all the way up to 2nd. Bergland has 60 some points , Salmonsen has 40 some points, Johnson with 30 points and Knack on her heels...Faribault has won 4 games without Bergland...she is truly a very good player, but give the other girls some credit too!
Now look at Redwing...their point leaders aren't even close.
Let the upcoming games show the true talent on each team. Good luck to everyone and let the girls play!

Wow, I didn’t know there was a proprietary interest in this thread. Maybe you can get a thread for the “special” schools that require a secret password. It was your “special” school supporter who started the whole bash Fbo/1A conversation, not I. Wildcat, if you want to continue your discussion, you are more than welcome at the 1A site. We are inclusive, not exclusive like the hockey snobs here.
