I would not over look Lourdes. They are a gritty, hardworking, for checking/back checking team that is very capiable of skating with anyone and they can bottle a team up a offensive team like a Breck. They are solid in net, have some solid defensemen. They don't have any real goal scorers who can finish, but in a close game, the can out work a team an sneak one in.bstarr15 wrote:If your going to do a poll please include ALL the team's in A.warriors41 wrote:With the tournament starting tomorrow I figured I would start this thread. Who do you think wins it all in the class A state tournament and why do you think that.
P.S., I'm betting about 6 posts from people who say "who cares, or this team wins the jv tournament."
Not that Lourdes will win but lets get all 8 in the poll.

I don' think it is Warroad's year but they have every superstitious reason going for them.
1. Last year in the girls tournament the Warroad girls got second place and a few weeks later the boys followed suit and got second as well. This year the girls got first so it stands to reason the Warroad boys will win first.
2. Last year the #4 seed, Breck, won state. This year Warroad is #4.
3. In 2007 Warroad got fourth. In 2008 Warroad got third. In 2009 Warroad got second. It stands to reason Warroad should win first in 2010.
I'm not one for superstitions like this but maybe someone will enjoy all these coincidences.

Up to the final gme of the night... So, we'll see how Nelson and Hebel fare for Warroad. Other than Garrett Hendrickson being quiet. The rest of the stars didn't disappoint. Williams created some nice chances for Alex.Goldfishdude wrote:I am going with Brock Nelson to put Warroad on his shoulders and carry the team.
There are some pretty good players in this tourney.
Ben Marshall, Maht 19 G, 53 pts
Brandon Zurn Mah 33G , 72 pts
Charlie Adams Mah 33 G, 66 pts
Brock Nelson, Warr 47G, 85 pts
Brett Hebel, Warr 26G, 70 pts
Adam Krause - Herm 36 G and 64 pts
Tyson Fulton - Breck 34 G and 80 pts
MIKE Morin, Breck 33G, 61 pts
Riley Borer Breck 18G, 58 pts
Chase Nystad Breck 26G
Garrett Hendrickson - Virgi 32 G and 76 pts
Not familiar with this guy:
Thomas Williams - Alex 37 G and 61 pts
As I mentioned during the Schwan's Cup, Tyson Fulton plays a lot bigger than his 5'11" frame.. He is dang good.
As I type, Brock scores........

Wow, forgot Breck was the #4 Seed last year. Anyways, I like what you've done here. If Brock Nelson buries a couple of backhands, we could have a 4-0 game after 1 period. Lourdes is outmatched in this one. Class 'A' Semis on Friday will be solid. Hermantown/Warroad final would suit me just fine.warriors41 wrote:I don' think it is Warroad's year but they have every superstitious reason going for them.

Today's winners outscored the losers 29-3.
Warroad scored 9 goals on 29 shots.
For all the bad rap New Ulm and 3A take, Lourdes and Alexandria really didn't fare any better.
I like that Breck split the game for their goalies.
Though clearly outclassed, it was only that 2 minute span in the second period where Breck scored 5 goals that made that score so lopsided.
Both semifinals should be good games.

Warroad isn't good enough to win 3 straight. Not nearly deep enough and goaltending is an issue against good scoring teams.
Hermantown has the toughest draw with Virginia but I think they're the only team who matches up against Breck.
Mahtomedi has a tough task against Alex, who is better than people think. If Wohlers can play like he does against STA in section finals, they will have a very good chance.
My best guess: Breck over Mahtomedi
What I would like to see: Hermantown over Breck
