ya whats your point.... h-town beat them 4-2 earlier this year too, not much of difference now is it?lacrosse10 wrote:mahtomedi beat virginia midway through the season 5-2 in virginia
got to say i think it will be a helluva game and would rather see h-town sticking it to another city team, but the truth of the matter is they must play better, the beat a virginia team playing pretty much their best hockey all year while h-town had a horribly off game, but then again maht. had a cake walk of a first game too so looks can be decieving, as for hitting marshall gotta b blunt im pretty sure #4 of h-town will tee him up a few times tomorrow
h-town 4 (eng)

Let's.... Play....... Hockeyyyyyyyy!!!
Ben Marshall just threw an awesome, Curt Gilesesque hip check, and that is the first time I have seen him be an agressor in that manner on the defensive end in the four games I have seen him play.
If he continues that effort, he will become a complete player, because at 165 pounds, he can have issues...

Mahtomedi 1-0 on a fabulous goal by Marshall, getting the puck just outside the red line, turned up ice, rushed down the center, faked a slap shot, deked left with a defender on him, and somehow snapped the puck short side at a tough angle... Great goal..
Now tied 1-1..... Goal by #20 Bannor on a screen shot from the point on a power play...

2-1 Mahtomedi..
Marshall with a shot from point, deflected to Johno May, who quick passed to Charlie Adams in front for the goal...Solid passing play..
Wohlers with a huge save off Christopherson... alone at side of net.. he had time to handle the puck a couple times, Wohlers held his ground and made a great save..
As I type, Hermantown's Kolquist rips a shot top shelf from half-wall circle... Both Hermantown goals were a result of Wohlers not being able to find the puck via screens..
PP now for Mahtomedi with 4 mimutes left in first..
Hermantown great PK.. Krause with a blast on a 2 on 1..... and then after Marshall lost the puck along the boards, Wohlers forced to make glove save...
Final minutes, Hermantown edge in play..
2-2 end of 1.. Pretty good action...

Someone closer can answer for sure, but I believe he did some U-16 U.S.A. stuff a year or two....yeahyeahyeah wrote:I am curious to know the path of hockey development that Ben Marshall followed through his youth. Obviously there is a lot of natural ability, what kept him busy during off season?
Quite honestly, I commend him for staying at Mahtomedi.... Although, I was told yesterday by my son the rumors are he will be elsewhere in 2010-'11.

Good call, Wormie... there was plenty of ice in front of him, no pressure from behind, and perfect separation between he and his partner that he could have taken several more strides before shooting or passing... he was trigger happy there..BigWorm wrote:Good period, I don't know what Krause was thinking taking a slap-shot three feet inside the blue line on a two on one, with his skills you never know what could've happened on that oppurtunity. Hermantown came to play today, should be a great semifinal Friday.

Start of period 2... Shots were 10-7 Hermantown in first..
Charlie Adams with a quality shot from right circle, nice stick save, goes wide, he skates to front of net, and is alone, gets a pass, and patiently finds a hole to score. 3-2...
Mahtomedi PP..... as equally effective the PP has been with Marshall ripping off two shots from the point, a great rush with a backhand attempt, and Adams snapping a shot wide, Hermantown with a great chance for a shortie, but couldn't deke it past Wohlers.... after penalty expired, back at the other end, Tyler Ampe a great save..
Entertaining game.. Hermantown has edge 5 on 5..

I hate to argue calls but that was a terrible tripping call, it was a love tap on the thigh. Hermantown needs to start doing the little things, on Mahtomedi's third goal Adam's should've been covered, Krause kind of just skated right past him moments before he got the pass from the point, Adam's displayed great patience on the goal though. I think Krause is going to step it up soon just a little jitters he's got to shake out.

The trip was a judgment call... could have been left alone...
Hermantown on PP.
It appears to me that because Hermantown scored goals from outside, via screens, they're shooting from outside, and they need to make Wohlers move..
As I type, Kolquist scores.. 3-3
Kolquist came in from the point, right circle and snapped one similar to his first goal.
I missed it, but Hermantown is STILL on PP... Was it a double minor??

A judgement call from a bad angle. I understand Ref's can't be in perfect position all the time, so I don't blame him but if I were Leblanc, who got called for tripping I would be furious. Two calls on Mahtomedi after so it doesn't matter. Kolquist scores for Hermantown on a 5-3. 3-3 with 8 minutes left in second.Goldfishdude wrote:The trip was a judgment call... could have been left alone...

Yep.. the ref was behind in the play... but as you called it a "love tap", it was clear on the replay the Hermantown player really didn't have much leverage or control of the stick to really affect the play, as he was just trying to poke check. That's why it was a judgement call that could have had the whistle swallowed.. but from that angle, and from real-time, I understand the call.
Shots 18-15 Hermantown..
Krause has a point-blank shot and missed.. he's getting some chances...

In realtime from that angle I have to agree. BTW the "Do" dance guy is the man, and Mahtomedi's slow wave is pretty cool as well.Goldfishdude wrote:Yep.. the ref was behind in the play... but as you called it a "love tap", it was clear on the replay the Hermantown player really didn't have much leverage or control of the stick to really affect the play, as he was just trying to poke check. Marshall and Krause mixing it up... both are going to box... I think Marshall would lose that one...
Comnick a short breakaway for Herm, but Wohlers a fine glove save.... another nice pad sve on a quick snap shot.....
end of 2.... 3-3..

I am not a Hermantown guy, but from what I can see in class A their rivalry would be Duluth Marshall, both are good every year and both are in the LSC conference. The two teams are in different sections so their section rival would have to be St. Cloud Cathedral and maybe Denfeld, but Denfeld will be class AA next year. I know for the regular season Hermantown has a decent rivalry with Cloquet, because Hermantown has to get by Cloquet to win the conference. In 2007 when Hermantown went undefeated they pulled their goalie against Cloquet in the last two minutes of overtime so they could win the conference. They didn't win the conference their state title year and I still think that ticks off Bruce Plante. They had ties against Cloquet and Marshall, Cloquet won the conference even though it doesn't mean anything to Cloquet.Goldfishdude wrote:For the Hermantown fans, who is your biggest rival?? I think eventually if Mahtomedi's to win they're gonna have to let Ben Marshall loose from D and let him wheel. I prefer watching him over many of these "big" NHL prospects. They go out and get their goal a game because of their size and some skill, but a player like Marshall is a creator, a finesse player, and can deek extremely well. He probably isn't ever gonna have a substantial pro career, but it's more enjoyable to watch IMO. I think when advanced conditioning and such was inevitable to the development of athletic competition, but in a way it isn't as fun since many of these kids already look physically like the size of pro prospects.
I can splash in the rink puddles!

Krause gets a tripping call on Marshall.... another "iffy" call...coulda been either way... kinda incidental..
Brandon Zurn PPG from center, top of circles.... on PP... unassisted on a turnover when Hermantown was trying to clear zone.... Ampe looked a bit screened..
4-3 Mahtomedi... about 11 minutes left..

Like Palmquist said though at least they are being consistent. I agree though very questionable call. Mahtomedi capitalized. 4-3 ZephyrsGoldfishdude wrote:Krause gets a tripping call on Marshall.... another "iffy" call...coulda been either way... kinda incidental..
