He came out of nowhere and in a way that is a fitting way for him to end his high school career. Not only does he have the talent, but he plays hard enough that he ends up in good situations. It was NOT a gift goal.
It wasn't the worst but the East defenseman stared at the puck for a few seconds before reacting and then whiffed on it just enough to not get it out. It just could have been better.

I don't think it ever went off the defenseman's skate. I've watched a number of replays now and it went off the post and then back off Rau's stick and in. Absolutely nobody else could have made that play.

Wow. I think my brain just fell to pieces reading that. Plenty of players can dive to loose pucks near the net and score. He had a shot at the puck because Kerr fanned on it and then he knocked in it off his skate! If Kerr's skate wasn't there, it wouldn't have gone in. End of story.
Let me just emphasize that I do think that Rau is an awesome player and is my pick for the Mr. Hockey award. He's most worthy of the award by a long shot. I do think that it's plausible that his skill and hockey sense led him to be in that place and time, but then again, who wouldn't crash the net with the puck sitting in the crease behind a goalie oblivious to the situation?
As for your sig line, I've heard its tough being a Yankee, too.

Oh I didn't realize EP had all free agents and a 300 million dollar payroll, thanks for alerting me. No homegrown talent here. Just watch the replays on hockey hub, you're wrong.

Never said it did. Right place right time. I think there were a number of players on the ice that could have made that play.

I know I'm more referring to the early posts that were griping about an off the skate goal. Not getting on you at all, just felt the need to quote someone.
Congrats to both teams on an awesome game. 5 state titles in the last 6 years for EP's senior class. Rau always seems to get the big goal when it matters most.
Puck went off Rau's stick and then off the defenseman's skate and into the net...end of story...and any player, not just Rau, could have made that play...also end of story.

Ok. It was a good effort goal. Nothing more, nothing less.

You know what I meant in reference to your sig line, and as far as the goal, I saw two replays of it on Xcel's scoreboard. It went off Rau's stick, off of the bottom of the post, off of Kerr's skate, and then in. I just confirmed it on hockeyhub, by the way. At any rate, I think I've said all I need to say here. I'm not trying to minimize EP or Rau's accomplishment here. It took the what seemed like the entire Duluth East roster to contain the kid for 6 periods of play and he still slid through (literally) to defeat them. The ONLY source of my frustration here is the fans' reaction to the goal as if we saw another iteration of that famous Blake Wheeler goal.
Don't see how it can get any better. Absolutely amazing game with an amazing effort by the should be Mr.Hockey winner. Amazing game that I will always remember.
The puck did go off of Rau's stick. He originally hits it and it goes of the post, then rau's stick gets caught in Kerr's skates, which moves the stick with them which the puck would end up hitting. Now i'm sure the puck would have gone off of Kerr's skate and in even if his stick wasn't there. As for saying Rau is the only one that could make that play I would have to disagree. I don't think everyone would have, but many of the other players on the ice would have done the same thing (probably wouldn't have the same luck as Rau though.)

The puck went off the toe of Kerr's skate blade and in. Rau was the last one to touch the puck and was therefore credited with the game-winning goal. Over and out.

Can we please stop discussing how the puck went in? Please!
If you dont like it, dont read it, nobody's forcing you that I am aware of
Blah Blah Blah. If I had a nickel for every time someone has said that...
I enjoy reading posts on here, and I have to read something to decide if I like it... I can't foresee into the future and predict that's the only topic you are going to discuss.
Plus some of you are arguing but you don't realize that you're actually agreeing with one another..
Pardon me for trying to move this thread into another direction.

I'm sure you would have loved for that to happen, still bitter about 5-1 I guess. But no, just watch the replay on hockeyhub, it clearly goes off of Rau's stick. Even the Matvick and Nanne say it does. Read the paper this morning if you want an opinion not flooded with bitterness from East and Eagan slappies. They realize how tough of a play it was for Rau to make it in there. It's not like he was close to the goal when it squirted through JoJo's pads. I don't think anyone else except probably Cameranisi would have had the speed needed to make that play.

Big time Players score Big time goals in Big games. Rau did just that. This game historically will be one of the best! Rau's goal will be part of replays for years to come. Hats off to both teams. As a fan, you could have not asked for a better final game.

Not bitter at all...check my posts regarding the EP/Eagan game and you will see that...my expectation going into the tournament was that Eagan would beat Moorhead, lose to EP and hopefully win Third. It played out as I figured, I wish Eagan would have played better against EP but in the end its just a loss...very proud of the Eagan boys for their season and 3rd place tourney finish...

HHF, you are incorrect. In order for a player to make "that" play, he had to have earned the right to be on the ice. As you are aware, not all were able to accomplish that.
