I've rarely been impressed by Besse and I've watched him a lot. The top players today bust asx everywhere and he busts asx nowhere. A floater that doesn't like to engage. Nifty around the net, I'll give him that, but that's not enough at this level. Most players have a hole or two but he's got some big ones. Some strengths and some weaknesses. And, if he had a concussion, and had seen a specialist, he most likely wouldn't have been playing last night.
4 power play goals by Burnsville so discipline is an issue for BSM. You can't beat a solid opponent shorthanded. Coaching is a big part of that.
It'll be interesting to watch how they recover from their poor team and coaching effort last night. Love surprises. Makes it fun, eh?
HappyHockeyFan wrote:Not impressed by BSM, Besse looked average and overall team not top 5 material. Burnsville has a nice team and will compete well in conference play against anyone. They will be serious contenders come sections. Jake Horton for BSM was their best player on the ice tonight, for Burnsville it was Chapman and Sheehy. Next up for Burnsville is Rosemount and for BSM its Duluth Mashall. Its early yet so maybe BSM just needs time to hit stride.
Besse did look a step slow tonight, but you still have to keep in mind that he is still recovering from the concussion he got during the Hill-Murray game a week ago.
If he is truly still feeling the effects of a concussion, he should not be playing.
It would surprise me if they are playing him so shortly after a concussion. Which makes me wonder if that is true? In any case, it is much better to err on the side of caution on head/brain injury.
Burnsville's special teams and coach should be commended for their performance last night. I have watched and coached against this group since peewees and the same power play, faceoff alignments, and plays off of faceoffs that are being taught their peewees and bantams are being used by the Varsity. I was hoping to see the 'signature' behind the net drop pass play on their power plays, but they did fine without it last night.
Where most teams are consuming a lot of their practice time on special teams, Burnsville players have been working on theirs for five or more years....and it showed. Burnsville is a solid example of how the youth program preps players for high school play.
Big, big team and tenacious. They will do well this year.
That behind the net PP exchange play is called the 'deuce'. I believe BV has a few guys in their youth and hs coaching staffs from Augsburg College - learned that play there.

And this just happens to be your first post.. interesting. Also very interesting that Besse was not looked at by a trainer and is still playing with that concussion....
Come on guys this is one game, BSM played a poor game but they are still working on their systems and working to play as a team. Gived them til after Holidays to make judgement. They have so much talent that it takes time to gel. They will be getting their goalie back soon and the team will start playing better together. Besse is a very talented played that has improved his game alot over last year. He is much bigger and stronger and now plays the body and is one of the better players along the wall. They do need to get better play from their 3rd line and have them start putting up some points.

There are no excuses for this.. But I do think BSM will be a tough team late in the season, hopefully this will be the only fluke.
imho going into the season BSM needed to prove that their D and G would not be suspect. They have not done that so far, but I in no way assert it won't happen as the season progresses.

No question they got outplayed both in goal and on D. But in this game their offense didn't get it done, either. Scoring just one goal isn't going to cut it in most every game.
