Jordan Fralich had an assist in his teams 4-2 loss to International Falls on 12-23-11 according to the Duluth News Tribune. I believe he is the only defenseman on this list so far.

Pretty easy to put up numbers against weak teams.

Moose Lake
Pine City
Ashland
Kittson Central
Hayward
I-Falls

Silver Bay has to have one of the easiest schedules in MN HS Hockey.

And Silver Bay is a Minnesota high school powerhouse, year-in, year-out, that is scheduling weak schools to pad their stats?

I don't think so.

Silver Bay is a small community and they play schools of equal size; if they are doing better than average this year, let's give them some credit, eh?

Enrollments:

Silver Bay/Cook County 296
International Falls 387
Moose Lake Area 756
Kittson Central (Hallock) 120
Pine City/Rush City 631
Ashland (WI) 1,066
Hayward (WI) 656

Only one school smaller than Silver Bay on your list Hockey North. I think that at 5-2 they're doing pretty well this season.

If it wasn't obvious, I am from up the North Shore. Teak, thanks for the nice words about our small community. Interesting numbers about enrollment, Silver Bay has about 25-40 kids per graduating class, so the other couple hundred must be in Grand Marais(Cook Co.). SB has 3 Cook Co kids on the team, one of whom is a freshman goalie. That goalie just happened to make the Adv 102's last summer, he also was selected to make the trip to New York beyond that. Silver Bay's football team this past fall made it to the Nine-Man state tournament where they played Kittson Central the first round and got beat handily. Kittson had 51 players in uniform, SB had 15. That is not a misprint, 15 players. The football season, and the good start to the hockey season has given the little town up here something to talk about at the coffee shop, and at the plant down on the lake. Will SB be in the Excel in March, absolutely not, not even close. But all you big city folk can bash our kids all you want, it's pretty fun to watch them bust their ass every game.
Just an extra tidbit, these kids on Teak's Freshman Scoring Chart were in the Advanced 102' in St. Cloud this past summer.

Fralich SB
Gersich HF

I hope he has 100 goals.
Did I rip on your community?? NO!
Did I point out a weak schedule?? Yes.
Why are you taking this so personally??

Geez, chill out and have a great season then!!

Wow, thanks for the info RE Silver Bay! High school ice hockey should be mostly about communities coming together around their high school teams. I am sure that the schools that the Mariners play are the same ones that they compete against in basketball, football, girls volleyball, debate, and etc.

This issue of "easy schedules" is a funny one. At <300 enrollment, who SHOULD Silver Bay be playing? Duluth East? Eagan? Eden Prairie? I doubt that those high-enrollment schools would want to schedule a minnow from the north in place of their traditional rivals and conference mates. Silver Bay is an independent (not in a conference) and has to schedule whomever they can.

My only dilemma is when Silver Bay plays Ely: who to pull for?

Jack Walker (frosh for Edina) was another Minnesotan picked.

Alex Stager scored 1 and assisted on 1 as Robbinsdale Cooper knocked off Silver Bay 4-3.

Holy Family Catholic finished with their Up North Adventure in an 8-0 whitewash of Mandan (ND) with Gersich and Peterson each picking up two assists, and Will Garin scoring a goal and assisting on another. Garin is the leading 8th-Grader in scoring, something that his teammate Gersich also did last season. HFC isn't afraid of giving youngsters plenty of playing time.

Very few schools had games on 31 December. See you next year!

I think it is the 1996 group. This is the fourth year that I have compiled freshmen scoring stats, and I believe that the group from two years ago were the best collectively.

Here is the final scoring list from last season (2010-2011, mostly 95s), down through 20 points only.

Goals – Assists (Factored into % of team goals)
50 points
Karson Kuhlman, Cloquet, 16-34 (43%) #2 on the team in scoring
43 points
Aaron Dietmeier, WSFLG (WI), 25-18 (33%) #3 on team in scoring
39 points
Shane Gersich, Holy Family Catholic, 16-23 (8th Grade) (33%) #2 on team; one game left
36 points
Connor Hurley, Holy Angels, 10-26 (31%) #4 on team
35 points
Austin Poganski, St. Cloud Cathedral, 22-13 (30%) #2
31 points
Will Hammer, St. Cloud Cathedral, 15-16 (26%) #3
29 points
Spencer Naas, Blake, 12-17 (24%) #4
Drew Blackmun, St. Paul Academy, 8-21 (26 games) (35%)
23 points
Johnny Austin, Blake, 5-18 (19%)
22 points
Avery Peterson, Grand Rapids, 7-15 (16%)
21 points
Brad Rowlee, Silver Bay, 13-8 (27%) #4
Jake Green, Princeton, 13-8 (34%) #1 on team in scoring
Justin Oliver, North St. Paul, 11-10 (21%)
Logan Wilkinson, Chanhassen, 6-15 (27%)

Gersich ended up with over 40 points, I believe, as an 8th Grader. But that feat was also done by Travis Boyd two years before.

Now, for the 2009-2010 season, which are mostly 94s.

Goals-Assists (Factored into % of team goals)
57 points
Kyle Osterberg, Lakeville South 18-39 (49%)
46 points
Grant Besse, Benilde-SM 27-19 (35%)
44 points
T J Roo, Totino-Grace 22-22 (35%)
41 points
Max Coatta, Minnetonka 20-21 (27%)
37 points
Levi Talarico, Duluth Denfeld 15-22 (44%)
35 points
Hudson Fasching, Apple Valley 20-15 (38%)
34 points
Jake Horton, Tartan 14-20 (34%)
32 points
Connor Chambers, No Lakes 23-9 (28%)
31 points
Tanner Picht, Morris-Benson 15-16 (36%)
28 points
Andrew Scofield, Northfield 17-11 (47%)
27 points
Nate Mettenburg, Prairie Centre 10-17 (38%)
25 points
Jason Samuelson, Roch Lourdes 11-14 (28%)
24 points
Alex Funk, Roch Lourdes 13-11 (27%)
Mike Welch, Redwood Valley 10-14 (21%)
Adam Johnson, Hibbing 9-15 (24%)
23 points
Ryan Tapani, Providence Academy 14-9 (27%)
22 points
Ian Johnson, Park Rapids 13-9 (17%)
Zach LaValle, Hill-Murray 8-14 (16%)
21 points
Tyler Cisar, Moose Lake 10-11 (16%)
Ryan Mattson, Waconia 10-11 (37%)
Mac Beyer, Morris-Benson 7-14 (25%)

That season (the 94s, 2009-2010) was the best set of freshmen collectively, I believe, of the four years.
