So to you it is the responsibility of the consumer to stick with a bad product when they can afford a better one and not the responsibility of the government to use OUR [roughly] $10,000/kid to make the product we are providing the public as good as it can be?
That was hardly my point.
You can get a good "product," as you put it, in public schools. People act like there aren't advanced classes in public/inner city schools but that's a load of horse manure. It's just a more ghetto minority element which people are choosing to flee from. It's de facto segregation is what it is.
I am moving away from the East Side as well most likely when I choose to have kids (I would never raise girls especially over here). Probably to Vadnais, Little Canada or NSP. But I would still like my son(s) to wear a Govie uniform some day, if the program is still around and there is a way to send them to a different district.
This is all hypothetical though at this moment.
And I want to be clear that there are a lot of good, honest, hard working people here still with good clean properties but it is eroding. It would be nice if the ES would just start gentrifying and reversing the trend.
Well, it is basically 90% of my point which is ignored 95% of the time here. In my experienced opinion, it is a majority of the "problem" we have though.
Ha, so it is "segregation" to choose a product you'd like but are willing to drive to, but since you wouldn't be driving as far to it it's fine for you to "segregate" your kids from the population you live around at the time by moving?

I think it's a pretty nice place around here, now that the Swedes have all moved to Woodbury. At least I can get a decent egg roll or taco these days.

If you meant to respond to HSHW, he has a St Thomas Academy education. Not sure if there is a significant difference other than I don't believe Hill-Murray teaches courses in Circular Logic.

Lee
Still interesting that this "circular logic" is never explained, questions are usually only responded to when convenient, and Lee disagrees with using his rating system to make points.
I simply asked a poster to explain what he is saying. Never said he's wrong. Apparently trying to understand a poster's train of thought has something to do with the high school education you received

I answered your question. You wrongly surmised that a public, inner-city education is inferior to that of private schools, which is total manure. A 4.0 is a 4.0 is a 4.0. Now, you will get a more socially stern system in a private and you will have less ghetto trash, for sure, but when it comes down to it if you study and do your work, there is no reason you can't go to an Ivy League school if you play your cards right. I made some other points in that post as well but if you didn't catch them, well, I guess that private education isn't so valuable afterall.

I never said one was inferior to another, nor is that my opinion.
So, to you the ONLY thing that matters in the educational experience is the possibility of a good gpa?
I need to ask you a question about every word you said for you to be convinced I read them?

You said "stick with a bad product" (e.g. public education). That only means you believe those that go to privates are fleeing a bad product - public education.
And of course GPA isn't the only barometer when it comes to succeeding past high school, but it's a pretty damn critical one.

Many get great educations at public schools, many get bad educations at private schools. That wasn't my point in the least. People talk about "loyalty" to their public school. If they feel they aren't getting what they are paying for (ie. bad product), they have the ability to leave. Many people leave private schools for the same reason.
In many situations, there are short falls in the public education system. Some can be "fixed," some can't. Some are funding issues, etc.
I disagree about what you're saying about GPA. It may be the one we use, but gpa alone is not a great barometer to determine future success.

How's that working out for you?
Hopefully he's not filing separation papers.
I feel his pain. To top it off, my mother-in-law calls me Saturday night to rub it in.
We alum showed up in '09 after they upset Tartan too... Unfortunately, the team themselves decided not to show up that night. They were never in that game against Stillwater.
Jay Dickman was on that team too. Here's hoping he and Moose don't let it happen again. At least go down fighting this time.
