Hurley's celly in the video sucked anyways.

The Russian example was pretty rude but nothing to get your panties in a bundle about.

No, I did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday. My point, for those who have no sense of irony, is that "celly" is silly word. Must all four syllable words be abbreviated to two? Or is that abrvd, since abbreviate is so horrendously long? Maybe yesterday could become yestday. Think of the keystrokes we could save.

Getting excited and celebrating with and for your team is great. The classless acts occur when you start taunting the other team. You just scored, let that be it. That is my opinion though. Ive seen many very classless acts in sports.. I just figure it's their problem if they want to make total holes of themselves.

class/classless

Ikola's teams had class. He demanded it. Coaches need to be reminded who runs the team. If a team is classless, then so is the coach!

Seriously wildspartandude I'd have no issue with Hurley dudes cele if he beats the GR goalie dude crisp and cleanly. Yea yea yea I know a goal is a goal.

Taunting is stupid, but it makes no sense to taunt a bad opponent and if you taunt a good opponent, generally that gets handled on the ice.
I think you hit the nail on the head here. Taunting should be penalized, but not the celly. Let the kids (and pros) express their jubulence. Jump in the glass, row the boat, drag the mit, skeet shoot the glove, high 5 the bench ... whatever. Let's not regulate fun out of the game.

Taunting is a different story though - like chirping the opponents bench after a goal, or hushing the home crowd. Those things are disrespectful, and I wouldn't mind seeing the odd unsportsmanlike call on those things, left to a judgement call, but I wouldn't want to see kids gets penalized for celebrating. There isn't enough celebration in life. It's good to see them excited.
HShockeywatcher wrote: The only thing I don't like is that, as has been pointed out, it is against the rules in other sports. If you do it in football, you can get a penalty, for example. Why is it not okay in those other sports but okay in hockey?
Some of those sports are over-regulated, but that point is a bit of a myth.

They still celebrate TD's in football. You see it in the NFL every week and you see in youth games all fall. Sometimes it's penalized, but it's left to the judgement of the referee - excessive celebration.

Remember the Brazillian girls celly over the USA girls in Volleyball at the Olympics? No penalty. No need.

Ever seen a soccer goal at the World Cup? Now those guys celly hard! Unpenalized. Even the announcers cant contain their excitement - GOOOOAAAALLLLLLL - and it's fun to watch too

First, why must people abbreviate the word celebration? Are you that lazy to not completely spell out a word, or are you so dumb that you do not know how to spell and you don't want to show the fact that you have difficulty spelling vocabulary words from early remedial classes?

Second, I tire of high school players constantly doing these celebrations. The frequency that they occur is overkill and its getting old. Some say let the kids have fun, but are they not already having fun playing the game they love with their friends, for their school, in front of their families, on TV, etc? Most of these "celes" are just another form of showboating and a few are forms of taunting too. The constant barrage of this crap is besmirching the game in my honest opinion. Its starting to look like the NFL or the 1980's University of Miami football teams out there (at least their "celes" are original).

Hopefully MSHSL pulls an NCAA and stops this crap. Preserve what's left of the game.

A Goal celebration? is it really that big of a deal? At least no body is tieing a calf with each body check :) Take away ESPN, and all the sports Highlites and these anticts may come to an end. Some times these kids make themself look ridicules do to the timing. for instance a big "cele" when your team is losing 4 - 0 and you score :) However it sure is Funny though :)

Heck, if i ever score I know I'll "Cele"

PuckU-I agree, I hate the drag the hand on the ground deal. If my kids do it they won't play the next game and they know it. Scoring should be fun enough. Soon they will be taking off the helmet/doing a dance/If a kid is doing a prescripted celebration then the head coach should get a bench. When they score they should act like they do it all the time. There is a reason the NFL has these rules. Because it was getting way out of hand. Same could be said for that stupid knuckle drag deal. Way over the top.

First off, need to get this out of the way....

People use the term "celly" rather than "celebration" because it is hockey-specific slang for a goal-scorer's (sometimes overly-exuberant) celebration. It distinguishes this specific event from other types of celebration (e.g. festivals, The Lambeau Leap, Catholic Mass).

Are you just as upset when noting that there are no bird-like sounds produced when hockey players chirp? Maybe we should all be concerned with the lack of wood shavings when a lop-sided games gets chippy? Need any help yelling at those kids to get off your lawn?

Get rid of the Lambeau Leap, no more jumping in the corners with teammates or towards the student section after a goal, because hockey is such a low key high scoring game. They need to take their seat on the bench and wait for the coach to tell them good job and act like they have done it before.

No smiling either.

Don't want kids having fun in a kids game that is for sure and most definently we need to hold them to the same adult standards multi million dollar pro athletes are held to so they learn to play for the money and adults who buy the tickets not the love of the game.

The last thing we want is kids playing and having fun. Ok they can smile within reason and I will be the judge of that.

Shoot we should bench them a game for thinking of celebrating (out of reason to what I thinkg) and a season for doing it.

I am convinced this will make the game more enjoyable for me and keep more kids coming out and playing the sport.

These are just great ideas.

salo144 just be glad you aren't one of the fans that throw their hats on the ice when a player on your team gets a Hat Trick.

From now on you will be escorted out of the arena, asked not to return and your team will skate two men down for the Unspotsmanlike Penalty.

I think I read that somewhere anyway.........

Abbreviations?

Nope. None here.

My rant above in my previous post was merely my disdain towards the collapse of the English language. Thanks to text messaging, tweeting and social media in general.

And by the way, I do yell at people to get out of my yard. No Trespassing, please.

Give me your address, almost (which I assume is in Eagan). I'll gladly camp out, make a snowman and defecate in your yard since you wouldn't care.

I could literally cut the sarcasm out of the air, Bronc. Great job.

But you obviously took it to a entirely different level; greater than what some (like myself) think. In fact, it would appear you were describing the USSR hockey club back in the day. Communism anyone? (Great teams by the way...)

But you all can take the hand to the ice, the air guitar and the hand to the ear and keep it. Go ahead and look foolish, classless and besmirch the sport.

And if you want to see where I and others are going with this; just watch the first minute of this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1-QAF8gLy0
