And it was great playing the competition we did-we have for many years-was just stating that we didn't do well this year against the top teams and a good coach could have overcome SOME of those loses-and I agree that Brainerd would have been much more prepared if they had a tougher schedule. So the current coaching staff had nothing to do with our current schedule-we have played those top teams for years and years. Terry Cullen got that started a long time ago.

Spud- you stated Cullen only had 1 yr of coaching experience. I'm sure he learned a lot this year and grew as a head coach. Maybe he lost a few games during the regular season that a veteran coach wouldn't have, but learned some things about himself and the players. Just think back to your first job and some of the things you did? I bet you gained a lot of experience and are now a better employee. Ultimately the goal is to make the state tournament and represent your HS and town in a positive way, and from my view that happened. Instead of being one of those parents who undermine the coach, hopefully you don't do it in front of your son, why don't you take the high road and be a positive supporter of the coach and program?

Mule-many things you said are true-Im sure he has grown and probably learned a lot this past year but there were so many issues behind the scenes with this coach that made the season, at times, almost unbearable for many of the players. I really want stability in the program but its very tough to support the coach after the many things that happened. I could give you many examples of this, but wont because Im not going to bring other established players comments into this. Also taking the high road doesn't mean blindly following the coach no matter what he does and how he treats players. Just because hes a coach doesn't mean hes good at it. The high road to me means supporting the PROGRAM through thick and thin which I have for 20+ years and realizing when someone is not suited for the job. Totally agree with you on sharing this things with my kid-that would be wrong-just the opposite-just listened for the last few months and shook my head in private about all the crap behind the scenes and then reluctantly coming to this conclusion. Because I support the program is why I think a change should be made.

Spud- So you are saying that after 1 year that Cullen should be gone? To me the high road would be to set up a meeting with the AD and discuss the matters with him. He may be aware of these or doesn't agree with your observations. If there are things that should be changed, he should communicate them to Cullen and help him grow and improve as a coach, if he is unwilling to change then maybe he should be let go. If you don't have anymore kids coming through the program, why won't you speak to Cullen himself and express the things you weren't happy with? Seems to me you are willing to pull the trigger on a person without trying to improve the situation.

You make a lot of assumptions about doing things that have already been done a few weeks ago with the AD and at this time the coach is unwilling to respond. All these issues have been brought up by a number of concerned citizens and Im not sure but maybe that is why the job was posted which is what prompted this whole conversation. You repeatedly assume things that just aren't accurate because you don't know whats going on-Im guessing you don't live here-otherwise you would have heard about the many complaints. Why so many assumptions? Cant you accept the fact that some people may want changes without assuming some of us just want to "pull the trigger" when many have already done and tried the things you assumed weren't done? Many of us are waiting for the coach to respond and so is the AD-or should say, maybe the coach has responded to the AD and yet he still posted the opening. So that makes many wonder what that means.

Spud- You are correct that I don't live in your area and am making assumptions, they are based on what you posted and watching the team at state. Another assumption is maybe the AD thinks you are off base with your accusations and they have no merit or he agrees with you and is looking for a new coach. I'm sure if you asked many succesful coaches about things they did their first couple of years , they would just shake their head and say they can't believe it.

AD was posting the opening regardless of whether there were issues or not. Part of the protocal when the initial appointment was as "interim."

Just becuse Pete Cullen only has one year under his belt you can't rate his coaching ability on this season. Getting to the State Tourny is VERY difficult in any section, even the years when talent is down. There are some great coaches out there who have never made it and there are coaches like BUZZY CHRISTENSEN who won it with GR INDIANS the 1st and only year he ever coached.

Moorhead would have never just stuck Pete or any other coach in the position thinking they would just waste a year and see what happens. Don't kid yourself!

The guy has deep family coaching ties (Uncle,Brother). Give the guy some room to breathe. When his Uncle Terry got to Moorhead it took quite a while to get to the SHOW and then he delivered for many years.

Well as of yesterday Cullen is the full time coach, I just have to get my 2 cents worth... Pete is a good coach but NEEDS a new group of assistants that have more experience and not give in to parental influence.

I need to apologize for some of my comments in an earlier post about "a complete lack of talent", just get a little wound up when people are constantly attacking the coaching and never take a look in the mirror. I think Coach Cullen and his staff did a very nice job this past season and the end result speaks for itself. I don't understand the attack on the assistant coaching now, Coach McFarlane has over 15 years of head coach experience, Coach Lund has 10 years of head coaching and Coach Gregoire has 6 years of head coach experience. What more can you expect from assistant coaches? Good luck to the Spuds next season, the community is hoping for another run at the title! Go Spuds!

The experience these coaches have is at the youth level. Mcfarlane has the JV parents in an uproar. So we will see how it goes.

Tom Starkey is the new skipper in Maple Grove. Alum who has recently worked with the Wayzata program.

Shjon Podein stepped down this morning after two seasons. He cited a desire to spend more time with his son and daughter. At the end of year banquet he referenced the conflict he was having.

Association paid a large salary to him to run youth program training as well.

Not sure if he plans on coaching for MN Made still - I would assume so.

Curious to know the interview process for schools now a days. Do they really have parents in on them? I heard when Mounds View went through there's a couple years ago they had two parents on the committee asking questions.

Both schools are moving quickly I know SLP deadline is April 30. With summer training programs it is important.
