With Petersen already drafted and probably having his choice of colleges to attend if he chooses that route, why not stay at Rapids for his senior year and head to juniors after the season. He would be hero. Worked for Bischoff and 7AA is more wide open this year. So many kids are leaving HS early it would be refreshing.

Haha you are clueless about FL, and what kind of team they have with forwards, defense, and in goal.

I do not blame kids for leaving high school hockey. It is fast becoming a very soft no check league and at 25 games their peers are passing them by playing 60 game seasons against very tough talent night in and night out. Game is growing unfortunately the MN powers are too arrogant to see that. Outside Minnesota kids are surpassing the ancient MN development model.

Elk Rivers section to lose.

Don't count Rapids out yet. Peterson will be back in the orange and black this season. They will be young but I expect them to be a factor come tournament time.

Nobody in their right mind who knows anything about hockey in northern Minnesota would ever count Grand Rapids out.

Many thanks to the school in hiring a great coach. Quantum leap in ability to coach the game. With John Rothstien in the mix the section should be fun to watch for a long time to come.

He was a star player for Rapids in the 70's, leading them to their first state title in 75. Followed coach Hendrickson to UMD where he played 4 years and after was an assistant there. Went to Notre Dame for his masters and continued as an assistant there. He spent 12 years as head coach at ICC and after that 12 years in the Rapids youth organization coaching peewee's and bantam's, last year he was the varsity assistant coach.

Rothstein's TOP PRIORITY for the program:

Team speed and endurance training. Last 20 years has been embarrassing that Rapids can't skate with East.

Secondly, please no more dump and chase philosophy while
having future Gophers on the team.

Just recalling last year, conditioning seemed very good. Rapids was usually stronger as the game went on.

It may have been a little better last year, but the section final
got sickening with the odd man rushes over and over and over.

I remember watching the state tourney back in the mid 70s, and Rothstein made an end-to-end rush going by several opponents before netting a goal while falling down. Pure class as a player! Good luck to Rapids.

That coaching strategy left the building August 5th.

Anyone know what kind of style of play Rothstein will bring? I hope its more of a puck possession system.

Grand Rapids has named their assistant coaches: Grant Clafton and Aaron Miskovich. Can't wait to see what kind of style of play this new staff will bring.

Cloquet had another player leave in their goalie Ketola. In a section that has teams as deep as Rapids and Elk River, I can't see how CEC competes this year. They were a legit contender had they returned everyone. This should open up a 4 seed for a team like Forest Lake or maybe even St. Michael Albertville. I know Esse is a proven coach with past success, but I don't see how they absorb that many departures.

Ketola was a non factor last year anyhow and spent most of the season as a spectator. It will be interesting to see if Mommy and Daddy can get him some playing time in Omaha. Cloquet is usually good defensively, offsense will be their issue this year. They lost too many to graduation and early departures.
