A closer game than most anticipated, as the average predicted score (CW) was 4-1. There were two who did get the score correct and jump out to an early lead, with two points each: wolfman and spars46.

The scores are very slow in getting posted today on the two main sites, but thanks to EPIC97 the second game in the Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown is now reported as final:

Chaska/Chanhassen 3, Cretin-Derham Hall 2 (OT)

Two varsity scores so far, and both were 3-2, with this one going to overtime. A slight majority (17 of 31) thought Chaska/Chanhassen would win, and amazingly of those 17 there were 9 who said 3-2: Nimrod, mnhockey3535, Silent But Deadly, 36Guy, clutterbucket, hockeyfan87, Bighead, sinbin and u12dad. Nine correct scores in a single game is for sure an all-time record in these contests...just wish I could have joined in on the party!

That's the third game in a row that was decided by one goal and the second consecutive that went to OT. And yet another game that was much closer than most predicted, with an average score for the group of 4-1. Thanks again to EPIC97 for posting the updates today. In the last quarterfinal of the 2013 Eagles Mid-Winter Meltdown, it was:

Our panel picked the Eagles to win this one by a lopsided 30-1 margin. And there were five correct scores: rascalbrock, Maverick2000, D6 Girls Fan, u12dad and Hockeydad805, who pick up the extra point. The average predicted score (CW) was 1-4, so the group as a whole was very close also.

Our first quarterfinal in the Centennial Holiday Hockey Classic is also reported by the Hub:

Moorhead 2, Buffalo 4

27 of 31 had the 14th ranked Bison winning this one, but oddly nobody guessed the 4-2 score. The average was 3-1, so as a group we at least got the margin right.

Our first real upset of the day, but the score was later confirmed to be 4-3 Stillwater, in OT. 24 had Lakeville South winning, and 7 correctly picked Stillwater. Amazingly, all 7 who liked the Ponies to win also picked the same score...but as it turned out they were just a little off! [sorry, guys, for getting your hopes up]. At any rate, wolfman, mnhockey3535, FishEye, Misterright, clutterbucket, Maverick2000 and Hockeydad805 all pick up a point on the rest of the field.

Needless to say, this is the upset of the day; that is, for everyone except a select group of four who selected the 13th ranked Knights to beat the 4th ranked Hornets. Although no one got the score correct, Knight7, mrleft, Maverick2000 and hockeybozo all pick up a point on the rest of the field.

I'll post updated point totals a little later, when hopefully the results for the four remaining games today are reported as final.

Another upset according to more than two-thirds of our group. But nine shrewdly picked the Bears to win and add a point each on the 22 who had NWC.

Our first real upset of the day. 24 were wrong, and 7 were right. But what is really amazing is all 7 who liked the Ponies to win also picked the same score...the RIGHT score. That's another first, at least as I remember. A big congrats go to wolfman, mnhockey3535, FishEye, Misterright, clutterbucket, Maverick2000 and Hockeydad805 on scoring a big two points each!

Sorry If I got the Stillwater score wrong. I thought Tony Scheid said 3-2 OT as we were passing each other. Heard also that Warroad beat AV 3-1 in the final game from a player that was watching at the game.

No problem, Knight7, but I'll still wait until making the correction as minn-scores.net will sometimes report a wrong score.

Just saw the Warroad/AV score on the Hub:
