I couldn't resist the urge. I'm making the road trip.Slammer wrote:Anyone know of any radio or live streams? I'm tempted to make the drive but I really don't want to.

Otherwise, KOZY out of Rapids should have a radio feed on their site: http://www.kozyradio.com/

Yes, this game will be on KOZY radio and online. There will most likely be video footage of this game, it will not be live and it will be posted on the GRHS Hockey website within a week or two.karl(east) wrote:I couldn't resist the urge. How does a person go about streaming online anyways. If anyone knows how to stream live via an iphone, for a reasonable cost, let me know and I might be able to make it happen.

And pipersniper, you can broadcast from the app High School Cube. I think it's free but not really sure.... It's relatively easy to set up.

Never count out East. Every year they prove everyone wrong.
They were ready for this game, and GR looked absolutley flat. East was in the zone for almost the whole entire 3rd period.
Season is still early, but GR looks like a team that does not in the least bit look like a state team. If they can't even compete on their home ice, I can't imagine how it will be during playoffs.
East looked completely disciplined and professional tonight. If they play like this every game, they are serious contenders
I hope GR gets it together, because they are my 2nd favorite team, but they just got completely outplayed in every single aspect of the game today.

I counted out DE before this game.... They always seem to surprise me. Randolph really knows how to win.MTStringer wrote:I wouldn't say anyone counted out DE. They are 17-2-1 against GR in the last 20 and have always put a very well coached squad out on the ice. I agree with all of your other comments. The playoffs are a long way off and anything can happen there once the puck drops.
Yes, playoffs are a long way away and GR can bounce back. But this is the biggest game they have had all year and they could not even compete. They still do have Shepard and Peterson though and if Shepard can get hot in sections, anything can happen.

Yeah what's this crap with discounting East especially from those in the north country jumping on Karl's sandbagging bandwagon? I'd say they easily belong in the top 10 and they are the top team in section 7. There are generally upsets to get to the X but these surprise teams can essentially be written off cause they can't win 3 tough games in a row. If East makes it thru section 7 they are clearly a team that can run the table in St. Paul.
This should make for some very interesting section seeding between the top 3 now as they are now neutralized. It should now come down to strength of schedule which won't help Rapids. East and Elk River may be battling for the 1 seed. East has defeated the likes of Eden Prairie and Wayzata while Elk River has beaten Edina and Blaine.
The matchup between East and Blaine next Thurs will be a big one. They'll also matchup with Lakeville North and Maple Grove later.
Elk River also has some tough ones ahead like Benilde, MG, and a rematch with Blaine.
I think the outcomes of the Blaine and MG matchups for both these teams will hold quite some weight in seeding for both teams.
You also can't count out GR, as the win over ER will still mean something.

Anyone who watched the game in person tonight can confidently say East should have the one seed as of right now..... This wasn't the 3rd game of some holiday tourney, this was a game both teams had plenty of time to prepare for. And east came in and completely outplayed Rapids in every single aspect of the game on rapids home ice.alcloseshaver wrote:or the 1 seed with their win over East and how their SOS and signature wins compare.mulefarm wrote:With such a pounding, this gives probably give ER the 2nd seed.

Well, that was fun.
East had a great gameplan and executed it to perfection. Their forechecking and neutral zone play was as good as I've ever seen out of an East team. I don't think Rapids had a single odd-man rush all night, and they made no adjustments to try to get through the East D. I know a few people have griped over the years when Rapids has tried to dump-and-chase to get through the East, but tonight, you saw what happened when they do try to skate right into the teeth of the defense. It was pretty ugly.
Avery Peterson is an excellent player and may well win Mr. Hockey, but the best player on the ice tonight was Phil Beaulieu, and it wasn't close. He was in total control of the game. And he also did photo ops with the Grand Rapids mites after their game between periods.
East's third line had a great night, as did Gunnar Howg on the few occasions that Rapids tested him. Rapids' lack of discipline cost them, even though they had more time on the PP than East, and still didn't do much with it. It's hard to find many positive things to say about Rapids, other than Shepard making some big saves that kept it from being even worse.
Huge win for the Hounds, and off of style points, they might have the slight edge for the top seed right now...but there's still a long way to go, and every game will matter. Also, it's worth remembering that East beat Rapids comfortably back in 2007 regular season, and then lost to them in the playoffs. East certainly looks the stronger team, but with better discipline, a few adjustments, a big night from Shepard, and a few odd-man rushes...Rapids could "easily" win.
It was great to see such a packed house at the IRA Civic Center, though East took all of the energy out of the building with their clinical first period. There was a decent fan base from East on hand. I only had two complaints: 1) the use of piped-in crowd noise during player introductions...I wanted to hear what that place sounds like with a couple thousand people on their feet; and 2) whoever was running the shot counter, as it was the most miserable shot-counting operation I have ever seen. They subtracted a few shots from East's total after the first period for no reason, gave Rapids a shot on an East breakaway, and missed a whole bunch in the second and third periods.

I was wondering what was going on when Beaulieu (not a GR player) was standing on the ice in between periods taking pictures with a Grand Rapids mini mite.... Did the little guy wanted to take a picture with the winning team?karl(east) wrote:Well, that was fun.![]()

That's not true at all. Anyone who watched the Elks defeat the #4 ranked Blaine could argue the opposite. Rapids isn't even a top ten team. All you can go by now is each team's wins against top 10 teams. DE took Eden Prairie and Wayzata. Elks beat Edina and Blaine. That's a toss-up if you ask me.Slammer wrote:Anyone who watched the game in person tonight can confidently say East should have the one seed as of right now......alcloseshaver wrote:or the 1 seed with their win over East and how their SOS and signature wins compare.mulefarm wrote:With such a pounding, this gives probably give ER the 2nd seed.
Karl, what say you?
Nailed every bit of it. Guys truly competing in front of Shep last night....how do you not get up for your biggest rival and compete for 51 minutes??? DE put on a shutdown clinic. Ba-loo and Trapp were far and away the best players in the ice.karl(east) wrote:Well, that was fun.![]()

The crowd noise.... they've been doing that for a few years now...yeah, kinda tacky. Hockey fans know how and when to cheer for their team.
Anyone know who Potulny was in the house for?
It is what it is!
