Edina has one of the most organized and functional hockey organization I have ever seen. From the mites program to the high school varsity. If you have been brought up to be against Edina all your life...it is understandable. However, you cannot deny this program has turned some great young players into excellent hockey players.
I have only seen a few home games this season so far at the varsity level. But, from what other old Edina fans are saying is hard to ignore. This years team is different from years past. They still have to work hard and be a team. But, I also see the depth and possibilities in this team. If you are looking for some justification as to why Edina is a top rated team...it is pretty simple...hard work, great coaching. As long as the players look up to and respect the coaches and see themselves as a team and not individuals...the team will finish on top. As for the players...there is so much talent on this team that I don't think they know it yet themselves. With Hurley departing early I think it has opened up a bigger picture for talent to be noticed. Each player on this years team deserves a pat on the back. Nanne, Malmquist, Munson, Fidler, Masterman, Meyer, Mismash...the list goes on. These kids are all products of MN Made or some other 365 hockey year round program...at this level and age they choose it. Now it is up to them.

MM refers to Minnesota made ice center in the warehouse section of edina near bloomington. Bernie Mcbain runs clinics at Minnesota made and I believe is the owner of Minnesota Made. His son Jamie plays in the NHL. the 365/24 is my guess a jab at Bernie for all the work he has the minnesota made kids do. Saying they play 365 days a year 24 hours a day. Bernie has faced some criticism for being a bit over the top.grandmeadowhockeyfan wrote:what is MM and Bernies 365/24? Curious. Never heard of it.

Not a jab. Only commenting that they are running something all the time. That's a positive thing and a good business model - good for Edina association hockey and tons of $$ to be made. It's the small percentage of Edina and other Machine or Choice parents whose kids skate every single day that are over the top!

From clinic to Junior Gold, I played my entire youth hockey career in the White Bear Lake Area Hockey Association (WBLAHA). Though I love White Bear Lake and I am very proud to be a "Bear", the hockey association had many faults and I actually look to Edina with envy.
Many of WBLAHA's coaches focused far too much on individual skill rather than the team. I was always jealous of the Hornets when we played them, because their passing and overall puck movement were far superior than ours, and the team mentality that the Edina Hockey Association carries is evident at all levels.
I think the biggest reason for Edina's success is what a well organized machine the youth hockey association is in that town. There is a strong focus on every team, including the C teams. WBLAHA and other associations sometimes refuse to acknowledge that C teams exist, and rather than understand that all kids develop their talents later than others, they dismiss players and focus on the best and the brightest.
Feel free to hate Edina, but please understand that while they certainly have a financial advantage, passion and knowledge of how to teach kids the game of hockey can't be bought.

Edina defense
Lot of questions about Edina defense. Should their defense be on the list or not. Some say quality others not.
Edina qualities so far.
Moving the puck out of zone
Tape to tape passing
Balanced lines
Coach
Team speed
Quality goalie
Work ethic
Malquist
Fidler
Nanne
Abundance of skill
Taking young guns when they show ability
