You still need to post your predictions for 6A. No rush as deadline is not until Saturday at 7:00pm; just don't want you to forget! :)

NOTE: This is one day behind due to the Forum being offline. I already had the write-up completed offline, so did a quick copy/paste. I will update yesterday's scores later today.

Most games going as expected last evening with no upsets that I can see. The scoring of this panel reflects that with everything still quite bunched. We should begin to see some separation as we hit the semi-finals.

Lower Bracket
#3 Mankato East/Loyola 7

21 points – Knight7, spars46, nu2hockey, u12dad, hugo_lucas

No “others” category for now, since everyone is bunched and very much alive. Good luck to all.

Great thanks to MNHockeyFan for recording the game scores and keeping track of the contestant scoring making my job here very easy.

Two modest upsets yesterday, #3 Marshall over #2 Luverne in OT. Although many of us predicted very close games, Fisheye was the only one to correctly use his predictive lens to net a Marshall victory.

Mound Westonka over Princeton was a mild upset, too. However, our panel clearly knew better, as 10 out of 13 of us picked a White Hawk win.

Kudos to maverick2000 for correctly hitting the New Ulm/Fairmont 10-1 score. Nicely done, indeed.

Class A Scores 2/6/15

3A - Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 New Ulm 10
#4 Fairmont 1

Lower Bracket
#2 Luverne 4
#3 Marshall 5 (OT)

5A – Quarterfinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Blake 9
#9 St. Louis Park 0

#4 Princeton/Big Lake/Becker 0
#5 Mound Westonka 3

We're starting to see a little separation as the leaderboard looks like this:

30 Fisheye
27 clutterbucket, Maverick2000, MNHockeyFan, Nordic, sinbin
26 hugo_lucas, mnhockey3535, nu2hockey, spars46
25 Knight7, Sparlimb, U12dad

Still open - good luck the rest of the way.

Also note to Knight7, mnhockey3535 and Maverick2000: As far as I can tell you are still missing picks for Section 6A! This was the section that was seeded later than all the others. Hopefully you will see this and will get your picks posted in time. The first game between Fergus Falls and Morris/Benson starts at 4:00pm today; the second game between Northern Lakes and Long Prairie-GE/W-DC begins at 7:00 so you will need to get your predictions up by then.

I will also send PM's in the hope of reaching you!

Thanks,

Games are getting closer for the most part as we approach the semi-finals and finals. Thanks again to MNHockeyFan for keeping these updated.

Scores 2-7-15

Class A

1A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Red Wing 5
#4 Faribault 2

Unanimous in our picks with Nordic earning bonus points for the correct score.

Lower Bracket
#3 Northfield 2
#2 New Prague 0

We were unanimously incorrect in this outcome.

2A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Hutchinson 5
#4 Willmar 3

Fisheye continues his strong performance with 2 bonus points for the correct score.

Lower Bracket
#3 Mankato East/Loyola 2 (OT)
#2 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 3

This game may turn out as the great delineator as our panel was about evenly split, so a 6-point swing. MNHockeyFan also picks up 2 bonus points for the correct score.

4A – Quarterfinals
Upper Bracket
#4 Mahtomedi 7
#5 Chisago Lakes 1

Unanimous in having Maht make it to the semis.

Lower Bracket
#3 Simley 3
#6 Minnehaha United 2 (OT)

Close than expected, all but one of us had Simley advancing.

#2 South St. Paul 3
#7 Henry Sibley 2

Again close than expected, and again all but one of us had SSP making it to the next round.

6A - Quarterfinals
Upper Bracket
#4 Northern Lakes 7
#5 Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 1

8 out of 13 of us had Northern Lakes advancing.

Lower Bracket
#3 Fergus Falls 7
#6 Morris/Benson Area 1

9 of us picked Fergus to keep their dreams alive.

Fisheye is certainly no fish out of water as he keeps his lead going. MNHockeyFan is hot on his heels, or fins, as it were. The rest of us appear to be swimming upstream with perhaps mixed chances at best of spawning success. Here is the leaderboard:

48 Fisheye
46 MNHockeyFan
43 clutterbucket, hugo_lucas, spars46
42 Knight7, Nordic
40 Maverick2000, sinbin
39 2 others
38 1 other
35 1 other

With 5 sections in the semis and 3 in the championship round, there is plenty of suspense and intrigue remaining. Good luck to all.

Two games last night and both went according to seeding, setting up the much-anticipated Class A battle of the hinterlands. All contestants had TRF advancing while the other semi-final game was much more evenly split by our panel, an 8-5 edge to Warroad. No correct scores in either game.

Scores 2-9-15

Class A

8A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Thief River Falls 9
#4 Crookston 0

Lower Bracket
#3 East Grand Forks 2
#2 Warroad 7

As we hit the home stretch, Fisheye holds onto his slim lead. Will he finish strong, casting towards victory, or will he be caught by one of our other predictive anglers?

54 Fisheye
52 MNHockeyFan
49 clutterbucket, hugo_lucas
48 Nordic

We're all hoping to "reel him in" and win that LUNKER PRIZE you're giving away, sinbin. ;)

Pretty much. At most a one year supply of bragging rights. A little better than nothing, I suppose.

Lots of action last night. New Ulm is the first team to punch their ticket to St. Paul. Congrats to the Eagles.

Scores 2-10-15

Class A

3A – Final
#1 New Ulm 3
#3 Marshall 0

11 out of 13 of us had New Ulm advancing to State.

4A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 St. Paul United 4
#4 Mahtomedi 1

We were unanimous in this prediction with Maverick2000 picking up 2 correct score bonus points.

Lower Bracket
#3 Simley 1
#2 South St. Paul 2

Only 3 of us had the Packers advancing here.

5A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Blake 5
#5 Mound Westonka 1

MNHockeyFan, Fisheye, Maverick, hugo_lucas, and clutterbucket all pick up bonus points for the correct score.

Lower Bracket
#3 Orono 2
#2 Breck 5

All but one of us had Breck advancing, but no correct scores.

6A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Alexandria 5
#4 Northern Lakes 2

All of us had Alec advancing with Knight7 valiantly picking the correct score.

Lower Bracket
#3 Fergus Falls 0
#2 Detroit Lakes 1

All but two of us had the Lakers advancing to the finals.

7A – Semifinals
Upper Bracket
#1 Proctor/Hermantown 4
#4 Moose Lake-Willow River 0

All of us had P/H advancing.

Lower Bracket
#3 International Falls 2
#2 Hibbing/Chisholm 3

Three of us missed this one, while clutterbucket and spars46 nailed the correct score.

The leaderboard looks like this:

82 clutterbucket
80 MNHockeyFan
79 Fisheye
77 hugo_lucas
75 sinbin
74 Nordic
73 Knight7, Maverick2000
69 spars46
67 Sparlimb
65 2 others
50 1 other

Fisheye finally was caught, but will he be able to come back and net a victory? Will clutterbucket ultimately be able to cross off an item on his bucket list? Or, will MNHockeyFan continue to lurk in the weeds and strike at the last minute? While we mostly agree on the section champions, there is enough disagreement that the Class A winner is very much up for grabs. Good luck the rest of the way.

It's a little surprising that - so far - all of the top seeded teams have been able to avoid being upset. Nearly all the section finals have the No. 1 seed pitted against the No. 2 seed:

1A #1 Red Wing vs. #3 Northfield
2A #1 Hutchinson vs. #2 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato
3A #1 New Ulm 3, #3 Marshall 0
4A #1 St. Paul United vs. #2 South St. Paul
5A #1 Blake vs. #2 Breck
6A #1 Alexandria vs. #2 Detroit Lakes
7A #1 Proctor/Hermantown vs. #2 Hibbing/Chisholm
8A #1 Thief River Falls vs. #2 Warroad

So, heading into the Class A finals, Northfield is the only No. 3 seed, or lower, that has a chance to get to State. Otherwise, it's a given that each section will be sending one of their two best to do battle in St. Paul.

I'm sure that someone could provide a history, but the finals of almost all #1s and #2s looks very odd, indeed.

Congrats to those seeding the sections. They did well hitting 7 of 8 exact through semis, with the one slight miss ... with Northfield getting back at New Prague.

Looking back to quarters only one 5th seed advanced (MW). Otherwise all 1,2,3, and 4s.

What an exciting night of hockey, with two OT games. Will things get any more exciting tonight? We'll let the hockey gods decide.

Scores 2-12-15

Class A

1A – Final
#1 Red Wing 4
#3 Northfield 0

A Haley hat trick was too much to overcome for Northfield, as Red Wing shut them out. Eight of us had Red Wing advancing to State, but no correct scores.

2A – Final
#1 Hutchinson 6
#2 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 3

Only 6 of us predicted Hutch to make it to State. The others were apparently Starsky fans. No correct scores, though.

4A – Final
#1 St. Paul United 1 (OT)
#2 South St. Paul 2

In quite the thriller, SSP surprised all of us with a 2-1 OT win. The game was scoreless until 4 minutes into the 3rd, while SPU outshot SSP 35-12. Conley made 34 saves for the Packers.

5A – Final
#1 Blake 3
#2 Breck 2 (OT)

Not to be outdone, Blake edged Breck 3-2 in OT, scoring in the first minute to secure their trip to St. Paul. All but one of us had the Bears advancing while nu2hockey, sinbin, Maverick2000, and clutterbucket all earned bonus points for predicting the correct score.

8A – Final
#1 Thief River Falls 3
#2 Warroad 1

TRF outshot Warroad 43-23 to earn their trip to State. All but two of us predicted the Prowlers triumph, while MNHockeyFan, u12dad, and clutterbucket all earned correct score bonus points.

With two games left to play, here is the leaderboard:

106 clutterbucket
102 MNHockeyFan
97 sinbin
94 Fisheye
90 Maverick2000
89 Nordic
88 Knight7
87 hugo_lucas
84 spars46
82 2 others
77 1 other
60 1 other

With those two games to play, since the leaders all predicted Alec and P/H to win, we can declare Clutterbucket the winner of our tournament. He certainly saw clearly through all of the predictive clutter. It appears that our prize committee finances have already been exhausted, apparently spent on beer again, so Clutterbucket will have to settle for personal pride and the admiration of his peers as his reward for a job well done. Congratulations! MNHockey will finish in second place and the remainder will battle for third, with sinbin currently holding that position. We'll have one final update to this tomorrow and then look for the State tourney contest to be posted here once schedules are determined. Good luck to all.

Some fantastic games last night in the various section finals including 4 games decided in OT! Always an exciting time of year. One minor upset with SSP taking down St. Paul United in OT. SPU couldn’t solve Connely, a fun goalie to watch in action. The OT battle of the Lakeville’s fulfilled LVS’s destiny this year. Heard the ref’s made a questionable call against LVS with 23 seconds left in the game, but LVS overcame with a shorty. The ref’s need to back off a bit in close games in the finals, IMO. Andover returns to the X in what I heard was a great OT battle with two good teams.

Caught a good portion of another great OT game between Breck and Blake. Fun rivalry based on the crowd. Breck looked to have outplayed Blake in this match especially in the 3rd and on their way to the X, but was on the unfortunate side of a pretty bad call with 1 minute left in the game. Always hate to see ref’s dictate the outcome of a section final. Still a great game to watch!

More games on tap for tonight, should be another fun evening of girls hockey. Good luck to all teams!

The outcome of this contest has already been decided, but we have a couple more teams earning their way to State. Thanks again to MNHockeyFan for doing the heavy lifting to support the contest. Last night's games included:

Scores 2-13-15

Class A

6A – Final
#1 Alexandria 3
#2 Detroit Lakes 1

Alec used two goals in the 2nd and the teams traded goals in the 3rd to allow the Cardinals to advance to State. Nine of us picked Alec to advance, with sparlimb hitting the correct score.

7A – Final
#1 Proctor/Hermantown 1
#2 Hibbing/Chisholm 2

Two Brownell goals within 2.5 minutes at the end of the 1st were enough for H/C to hold on to defeat P/H. Although we had some close scores, no one on our panel predicted the Bluejackets victory. Congratulations, girls!

So, the final standings look like this:

111 clutterbucket
107 MNHockeyFan
102 sinbin
99 Fisheye
90 Maverick2000
89 Nordic, Sparlimb, spars46
88 Knight7
87 hugo_lucas, nu2hockey
82 1 other
60 1 other

Congratulations again to clutterbucket for his hard-fought victory, and to MNHockeyFan for silver and sinbin for bronze. Thanks for playing, everyone, and look for the State tournament contest soon.
