4-3 OT Denfeld. That will move some things around as Denfeld is still perfect on the year 4-0. No big teams besides Greenway but they host Virginia next Tuesday.
Greenway certainly does not seem to be playing up to their potential lately, and could be in line for a big rankings drop if they don’t acquit themselves well against Cathedral. The middle tier of 7A has made things challenging for the (expected) top teams so far. I have a feeling that putting together rankings on Sunday will be a bit of a crapshoot.

I dont know what you will happen if Greenway beats SCC. The forum might have problems, because of A hockey for a change.

My head might explode trying to make sense of that situation, especially this early in the season with few other games under their belts. I forgot that Greenway also has a long road trip to EGF the next day. Talk about a brutal week.

Sorry if you spit out your coffee... but 5A could end up with 4 or 5 teams in the top 20

We’ll see how things shake out, but at this point of the week I’m probably inclined to slide Monticello all the way out of the top 20. Their most impressive result to date is the OT loss to STMA, but otherwise the Moose haven’t done anything noteworthy. That leaves just North Branch and Chisago Lakes among the ranked 5A teams.

Who else would you include? Pine city tied Monticello, but was terrible at the Marshall tournament. Princeton has close losses to Monticello and NB, but their two wins are nothing special. Ranking teams based on how they fare against sectional opponents is a tricky proposition without looking at outside results.

It’s still pretty earlier in the season. Don’t disagree with pulling Monticello out of the top 20 but I don’t thing 5A has heard the last of them.

If Monticello beats Orono on Saturday, they are in the top 20. If they lose, they are out. A win by Monticello would also make a person wonder how high to put Chisago Lakes, who have some tougher games coming up in the next two weeks. CL has that odd schedule of playing 19 of 24 on the road.

That pretty much sums up my thought process regarding Monticello heading into today’s games. The Moose probably have the highest ceiling of any 5A team, but rankings are volatile this early in the season, and they have plenty of opportunities to earn their way back even with a slow start.

It's all very obvious because Eveleth beat Chaska and Princeton beat Eveleth 2-0.... 😜
